I loved the cartoon adaptations of comics when I was a kid (like X-Men, Spiderman, and Fantastic Four), I bought the figurines, but I never actually read the comics. It was not until later in life that I started on a few graphic novels and comics. Now I am hooked. Ace Comics and Games is the perfect spot to indulge my new found love of comics. They do tend to stock more graphic novels and don't have the biggest range in their Queen Street store but the staff are awesomely knowledgeable and friendly and if they don't have something in stock they happily source it for you. You might not even notice Ace Comics unless you were specifically observant or were looking for it on purpose. From the Queen Street Mall all you see is a sign near a doorway next to Wallace Bishop. Walk up a few steps and you make your way into the kind of old looking shop but who really is looking at the paint work when the walls are lined with comics anyway. Ace comics really is a good shop to browse, buy or just generally stand in awe of the awesomeness that surrounds you.

They also have a large selection of video games for older consoles. You should definitely avoid Gametraders if you have an addiction for Pop! Vinyl Figures, as they sell hundreds of them, in addition to merchandise for franchises including Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Doctor Who and Star Wars. They also have a large selection of board games and card games, many of which you would not find at most toy and department stores. Gametraders also sells comic books, anime DVDs / Blu-ray's, a small selection of clothing and various video game / TV show props, which would be perfect for cosplay. You will often be able to find items that Gametraders are selling for less online, though they offer convenience and a unique retail experience, which EB Games is finally catching on to, with the launch of their new Zing Pop Culture stores.

Gamestraders has a very clever model based around letting you trade in your old games to help offset of that brand new $100 game YOU HAVE TO HAVE RIGHT NOW. Other game stores do this too, but Gamestraders seems to be a bit more generous with their refund. Don't get me wrong, they then turn around and sell your traded in game for heaps more than they paid you, and it's pure profit (they only have to pay the manufacturer for new games so selling second hand games is heaps more lucrative than selling new). There's a decent range, and parents and partners can feel slightly better about watching their loved one trade in that game that cost a fortune just a week ago (trust me, you never really go back and play a game once you've finished it).

This means that you can purchase games for all of the major consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo), in addition to purchasing pop culture items such as Pop Vinyl's, nerdy T-shirts, plush toys and a whole lot more. Like all other EB Games / Zing stores, you can earn points on purchases with the EB World card. You can also trade in your old games for a store credit towards other items in store. I highly recommend giving the store a visit if you are into gaming or pop culture in general (such as Game of Thrones, Doctor Who), or are addicted to Pop Vinyl's like myself.

In addition to Pop Vinyl Figures they also sell various plush toys, clothes and accessories, posters, board games, action figures, collectables, and other various geeky items. They are reasonably priced for the most part, though you might find that some items are available for less online. I quite like how the store has areas that are sorted by franchise (e.g. Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead etc). The store is located near Dymocks on Level 3 of the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.

They have managed to cramp this store with many many many MANY toys, the aisles hardly fit my pram, so really, don't bring your pram if you have kids, baby bjorn or ergo carrier them up the escalator because the aisles are a teensy narrow for them. You need to experience it without the pram okay? I love the fact that there is a huge range of Hot Wheels cars, the ones that are normal, the ones that change colour when they touch water and the ones that go up the walls.
