New comic book store in State College…read more https://www.statecollege.com/articles/business/new-state-college-comic-book-shop-to-celebrate-grand-opening/ This is a small store in the Westerly Parkway Plaza. I have been a comic book reader since the early seventies and until 10 years ago I would frequent the Comic Swap on Fraser Street. However when the price of comics went over $4 I stopped. I liked this store since it did have old comics (not in mint condition) that you could buy for a dollar. I still remember when I could buy a new comic for 20 cents. The store was busy when I arrived around 2 pm on their grand opening day and I did a lot of kids with their parents coming in to the store. From the conversations I heard in the store it seems that there are very knowledgeable people in the store to discuss comics with.

After several precious minutes, they came back and said they had it in stock. I told them I could get there by 6:05pm and we really needed it. She said, so sorry we will be closed. So off to Wal Mart I went. Imagine the loyalty the employee could have created if she had told me they would wait?? So the next time, and going forward I will simply drive to Wal Mart for the same bad customer service, but at least they will be open. Small businesses complain about the locals not supporting them. This is why. A loyal customer turned away when we really needed the item. So Wal Mart it is. All the best to Weavers.

The only downside is that they can't compete with Amazon's prices, though they do compare well with Barnes & Noble. That's just the reality of running a brick-and-mortar business. Still, it's always worth a visit. The staff is consistently friendly. My only real critique isn't about the store itself, but more about how Amazon's pricing power can make it difficult for small businesses to compete, making this store feel prohibitively exspenive for a college student (especially for one who has free access to the Paterno Library).

Located right across the street from the Corner Room and Pickle's Tap Room on Allen Street, we were…read moresurprised to see a book store amongst all the bars and bicycle repair stores. My husband can never pass up the change to check out a book store so we stopped in and were greeted by a friendly cashier and quite a large selection of books. Very clean and bright, its a quiet but quaint store that offers best sellers, value books, and a surprising amount of Japanese/high quality notebooks, stationary and pens. I did hear several people asking about what books they carried and the cashier was able to pull books for them or offer let them know when the book was in stock so I imagine they're still getting a feel for what stock to carry. I picked up 2 books from the recommended wall that piqued my interest and look foreword to reading them. Price wise they sell for retail price so on par with the big box stores, so I'd rather support a small business. Its also eerily quiet inside so I'd like some soft background music otherwise I was able to hear every conversation around me. Other than that its a cute small book store in the heart of state college. A nice addition I look forward to visiting on our next trip up

My husband is a huge comic guy so we always try and stop at small shops in our travels. This is one…read morewe've been to several times over the years and seen it change from a mostly comic store to one offering board games, manga, graphic novels and everything in between. On our most recent trip we saw a game of magic going on in the back where the older comics used to be stored so it looks like they've expanded to card games as well. We did see several boxes of the new Disney card game Lorcana as well at the register. Left side of the store houses the card meet ups and a decent selection of manga, though the volumes are mismatched and best to help fill in gaps in your collection. Right side has more recent comics and dice games. As another review said I wish they'd add & Games to be Comics & Games since they do have an expanded board game section now. Feels like they're missing out on some key business. Talked with the cashier who said they've stopped stocking back issues and mostly just fill their monthly orders for regulars, only ordering an extra copy here and there. Husband was looking for a few recent back issues but was told if it wasn't on the shelf, they were sold out. They stopped extra ordering/stocking due to COVID and decrease in foot traffic. We did end up purchasing a hard cover of Peach Momoko's work and Marvel Cats book though. Cashier was very knowledgeable but didn't like to make eye contact with us, always looking around or sitting back watching his computer while we asked about several issues they didn't have. Just seemed uninterested if you weren't a regular so that was a bit of a turn off. Meanwhile he was super friendly and helpful to the man and son before us so they must frequent the shop on a regular basis. Location wise its easy to miss. On the side of dunkin donuts on Frasier St, its on the lower level of dunkin, accessible by staircase only. Not sure about handicap options, but it might be hard to access if you are physically disabled.

He hunts every December in Potter, and one of his hunting buddies apparently likes to stop at Unkel Joe's to do his Christmas shopping. If I'd been prepared, I would have done some of my Christmas shopping as well... So many things to choose from for the kitchen and home, gifts, Christmas stuff, hardware type stuff, the list goes on. I also love that items are donated, which reduces pollution and environmental impact as well as keeps viable things out of the landfills. Plus, depending on factors, there are some great bargains to be discovered. My glaring con, though, is something rather commonplace now among thrift stores and that is the overpriced or limited shipping options. I put a few items in my cart today ($32 worth) and was shocked to see shipping costs of nearly $20 for USPS Priority Mail without other shipping options available. When I removed an item, the shipping cost *stayed the same*. Unless you have particularly deep pockets, I'd consider this place more of an in-store visit only, unfortunately.
