I've been coming here for about 4 years now and I have to say each year is getting worst. You have to know what item you need before you get there because this hydroponic does not carry EVERYTHING compared to grow generation. Not only your favorite product won't most likely be there, but the employees there aren't really knowledgeable on the products and the lady who runs the store is always on her phone trying to deny any question I ask. And make sure you price check everything as you get there because they never have deals. I got ripped off buying silica off the clearance shelf once. They do have cannabis seeds though :) if you're trying to overpay of course. read more

I wish I never found this place on yelp .. can't believe owner Chris is a douche bag!!! I live in salinas and I drove to Gilroy check place up .. I met Jeff and asked everyday question .. I also wanted to start a relationship with place by buying products from them and so on .. owner Chris got upset the minute I started explaining myself how I purchased my tent,light and nutrients from websites with sezzle as an option.. went in to buy soil, mediums and few ends .. there no one in the store at all and he's just seating there.. he gives me an attitude through out my visit . I have to say as a first time grower and my past experience with stores like this. It can be very overwhelming to walk in and try to ask people for help, for one most are not willing to give it out or they treat you bad because you don't know what your doing. But I was shocked at how much knowledge was shared here and the owners didn't try to up sale anything to me. They just showed me what was needed to get started and explained the steps to me. Still 5 stars! This place is a hidden gem for plant people. We moved...again...so we came back for more coconut coir and perlite to set up our succulent beds in our new yard. You CANNOT beat their prices! $25 for a 4 cubic foot back of perlite!! Unheard of! I did shop around just because we need a total of 275 cubic feet of succulent mix, and we thought maybe we'd find somewhere to deliver for us...just to save a ton of manual labor. I found places but it was going to be well over $1200 This place also has an amazing selection of plant foods. Besides buying dirt mix supplies I come in here for the Max Sea plant food. Again you won't find better prices anywhere. This place beats online prices for that plant food too. You also can't beat how friendly the owners and worker bees are. Everything for organic gardening and also indoor like orchids or special lights for indoor plants .They have demo systems with hydroponics and take time to explain pro &cons of various techniques, equipments and brands. Excellent experience all the way around. I Initially contacted Chris as a newbie with interest in a grow tent setup. He was very helpful in articulating and recommending options via email and phone. Can't beat their prices, depth of inventory, knowledge and service. Love that the shop is owned and operated by a husband and wife team. It's obvious they are doing the shop based on their passion. I stopped by this store the other day for help with my garden. My artichokes were stalled not to mention the zucchinis and basil not doing well either. We were using some miracle gro before but it wasn't helping. And our soil was supposed to be good raised bed / planting mix. The owners of GrowBIG helped me think about pH and beneficial soil bacterias and how that could effect nutrient uptake. I bought a small bottle of a microbe brew they recommended and already in just a few weeks, my garden is doing amazing. I found this place by accident, trying to locate a similar business in Hollister; I drove to the address and it was empty. I called the phone number and Chris answered at GrowBIGogh. I was already going to Gilroy later so I came here just to look at prices. Chris, the owner, and his employee (sorry I didn't remember your name) were so friendly and helpful. I went in to "window shop" and I only expected to learn a ballpark price for setting up my system. Instead I got almost a half hour lesson on which plants would do the best, what pH to have the water, local wildlife considerations for edible fish species, and several methods of growing - ebb and flow or floating mat for example. These guys know their hydroponics! I got the impression that the store and products are mostly geared toward "medicine" growers (welcome to California). I am going to raise tilapia and organic vegetables, but the soil-less techniques overlap somewhat. The prices seemed very reasonable in-store and when I compared products online at home (specifically the pumps) I saw only a $2-3 difference for most of them. If I can't wait for shipping and it's not at my local hardware store - I will be returning here for sure. read more
