I was greeted by the front desk receptionist with a friendly welcome and smile. My wait was no more than 5 mins after my scheduled appointment. I was assisted by Carmen who is one of the friendliest and most knowledgeable there can be. For my pre-exam the process was smooth as I was navigated to each eye machine. I then waited for Dr. Li and again not long. He greeted me with a great sense of humor. He is very easy going and is attentive to patient's needs. He is quick to address any concerns you may have. You can rest assured your questions are answered honestly. He is one of the most thorough optometrists I have even been around. He reviewed all the graphs and results of my pre-eye exam and broke down what exactly I was looking at. I essentially was looking at my entire eye health. This something unique and akin to what a dentist would show you when they take x-rays. I was really impressed. He was very forthcoming about what to expect as I age with my eye health. He also was able to provide a sense of understanding. I was very appreciative of his knowledge. Following my visit, I was escorted to the optician (I forget her name). She assisted me in selecting frames. She helped me with understanding what my insurance covers, and she even allowed for me to combine my wife's coverage. She was very patient with all my questions and not once I ever felt rushed. I may have kept her longer than I intended and had to depart. However, I was introduced to the person that finished up for her and that optician too (I forget her name) was very nice. At the end I was able to select a quality pair of frames that I am sure I will be happy with! From start to end the visit was one of the best I have ever had! The facility is comfortable and inviting. The entire staff I encountered were all very professional and courteous. Dr. Li was simply a joy to speak to and I am sure I can trust him with all my needs for years to come! I cannot recommend him enough. If you need an optometrists consider Li and Liao Optometry! Just a note, I saw many reviews and was skeptical at first in purchasing frames at the optometrist's office. I am someone who have been accustomed to purchasing eyeglasses from Costco. Costco offers a good selection, and the costs are more than fair. However, I can say that after my visit with Dr. Li and having the opportunity to keep an open mind to see what they offered I opted to purchase my frames from his establishment. I wanted to support not only a doctor who knows his craft but a business who provides awesome service, impeccable knowledge of eye health and second to none care. I find that when sitting with an optician I get the most out of selecting the best frames. Of course, you will see name brand choices, and this may scare some when it comes to pricing. But I compare it to what are you willing to pay for your health. It is like purchasing a good mattress so one can sleep well. I look at glasses the same, you may be wearing these 24/7. As a Black woman, these repeated experiences left me feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. In addition to the customer service issues, I experienced problems with my prescription not being handled correctly, and I later developed an eye infection, which was extremely concerning and frightening. What made the situation even more frustrating was my attempt to contact the office for assistance. My calls were repeatedly forwarded or went unanswered. However, when I called from a different phone number, my call was answered. This only added to my concerns about how I was being treated. Based on my personal experiences, I felt that I was treated differently because of my race. I have submitted a complaint regarding my concerns because I believe this situation deserves to be taken seriously. I would strongly encourage people of color to carefully consider my experience before choosing this establishment. No patient should ever leave a healthcare facility feeling ignored, disrespected, or discriminated against--especially when they are seeking help with their health.

Dr. Miller has been my OD for the past 4 years. Initially when I came to him from another office I…read morewas having issues with my contacts. The ones I had been living with for years caused me discomfort and good vision wasn't a daily occurrence. The problem was mainly due to my high astigmatism. My previous OD couldn't help me and didn't really seem to try. Dr. Miller tried several different lenses with me until we found a good fit. Contacts had never felt so comfortable and my eyes weren't nearly as irritated as they had been before. Because they fit better I could also see much better. He made it clear to me that contacts weren't the best option for me due to my high astigmatism but that didn't stop him from doing everything he could to make it work. We also discussed other options like LASIK and other refractive surgery. I was always very interested in this and he answered all my questions, gave me every option available and left me with pricing. At the time the only option for me was a contact lens implant. The cost of this was very high and not an option I felt comfortable with. A few years later he mentioned the technology has improved since our last discussion and I was now a candidate for PRK (a type of refractive eye surgery). He gave me the pricing, answered my long list of questions, gave me realistic expectations and three weeks later I had the surgery. I couldn't be happier now! I see better than I ever have. Dr. Miller is a great OD. He seems to genuinely care about his patients and spends all the time needed with you to get the best results. In the four years I've been his patient I have went from having almost blind and miserable feeling eyes to seeing and feeling better than I ever have before.

Everyone from his office made this a painless and terrific experience from the woman who booked me an appointment (in two weeks! versus two months with some of the other offices). They also were kind to schedule my appointment back to back with my boyfriend. I am not even clear about what my insurance offers, but they knew that Dr. Wood was in the network of my insurance; and explained how I was entitled to a free pair of glasses a year and significant discount to a second. The initial woman who saw me before Dr. Wood was very kind and patient. She knew how nervous I was about the air puff test. It may have been years ago, but I remember how uncomfortable that test was; that I jumped each time the blast of air hit my eyeball. I had to that one a number of times.... She explained everything to me and got me to relax as much as I could. Dr. Wood was very calm and professional. I chatted nervously with him about things I always worried about, things certain I thought would befall me, like cataracts - and he educated me and was reassuring. He shared with me things I could do to live more healthy, that was good for my eye sight - like green leafy veggies and omega - 3s. He also said cutting down on excessive alcohol drinking was also good. I wanted to ask him what was "excessive" alcohol drinking but bit my tongue. I decided because I was on a roll with the office, to go ahead and get two new glasses. They had a great selection, and I ended up with two very stylish pairs of glasses. Super happy! They told me that the glasses should be ready in only two weeks, which is really fast. They were especially kind about seeing my boyfriend who was late; slipped him in after me. I really, really appreciate that effort so that he wouldn't have to come back another day, though we would totally would have understood if they made him reschedule. I chose Dr. Thurman Edward Wood, O.D. in Bakersfield because of all the great Google reviews--and I'm glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and well taken care of. The staff who did my initial exams were fantastic (wish I caught her name!). I went through a few different tests--one with VR, one for eye pressure, and another where you stare at a balloon through a small hole. She explained everything clearly and made me feel comfortable. When it was time to see Dr. Wood, I was even more impressed. He really took his time with me, focusing on my personal needs and listening to my history of eye concerns going back 15 years. He answered all my questions--including which eye is dominant--and gave me a very thorough exam. I left feeling reassured, confident, and cared for. My wife had her exam as well and was equally impressed with the doctor's attention to detail. Best part? I found out I don't need glasses! Unfortunately, the experience didn't end as strong. When my wife went to pick out glasses, the sales rep assisting her was pretty inattentive. Instead of guiding us through price points or styles, she just kept saying, "Take your time and look around," while sitting off to the side. We were on a bit of a time crunch, and after letting them know we couldn't finish that day, the atmosphere felt a little awkward. We paid for the exam and left, but my wife and I agreed in the car that while the exam experience was excellent, we'll be purchasing glasses elsewhere. The removal caused permanent hearing loss and facial paralysis. The facial paralysis caused horrible eye pain. So much so most nights she cried.
