Suitcase Social Club Dispatch No. 47: "Timmy vs. The Lumberjacks"…read more If you've ever wondered what happens when a grown man with sales quotas, a mild caffeine imbalance, and the attention span of a golden retriever discovers competitive lumberjack sports streaming on the bar TV... well, allow me to submit Exhibit A. I wandered into Main Street Bar & Eatery for what was supposed to be a "quick bite between quotes." Instead, I became spiritually welded to a barstool while the TV blasted a man in flannel yeeting a chainsaw like it owed him money. And the fried pickles. Good grief. Those things ambushed me. One minute I'm thinking "I'll just have a snack," and the next I'm waist-deep in a basket of fried circles of temptation, crunching my way into oblivion while pretending to "work." My laptop was open, sure, but let's not lie to ourselves -- I got absolutely nothing done. I was too busy yelling advice at professional lumberjacks like I'd trained for this moment my whole life. Tim the Suitcase Regular Rating Breakdown: * Atmosphere: Cozy but with the unpredictable energy of a log-rolling final * Food: Fried pickles that could ruin a man's productivity in the best possible way * Service: Friendly, fast, and kindly nonjudgmental of whatever fever dream I was living in * Entertainment: 10/10 involuntary lumberjack immersion If you're looking for a place where you can lose an entire afternoon under the noble banner of "I swear I'm still working", Main Street Bar & Eatery is the arena. Suitcase Social Club™ stamp of approval: Earned.

I was eating a standard all the way dog. My buddy started asking about whether NW offers live music. We were informed that an open jam commences every Thursday at 9. "9:00pm? Must not be bluegrass. . . That's fine, I'm in." I thought to myself. Dropped Jared off. Got out of work attire, grabbed a couple guitars, and went back to Sparkle City to see about this jam. It wasn't quite what I would call a jam, but lemme tell you. There's this four piece band who plays a bitchin set to get everybody in the mood, then, something that seems like the bastard child of open mic and karaoke ensues. Musicians are encouraged to come lay something down. They can play solo, or they can be accompanied by a band who can quickly learn the song. What an opportunity, do John on the drums, Shawn on the slide with an SG, Drew (?) with a hollow body Telecaster and (sorry I forgot the name, but) Santa Ray Cyrus on the more than 4 strings bass, offer to amateur musicians! You can lead a band for a few songs! This is the kind of bar where all walks of life commune. The staff is prompt and polite. The drinks are affordable. Douchebaggery seems to be minimal. Oh yeah, if the hot dog orders aren't too backed up, Josh (the executive chef) sits in on the drums. He can flat out play! Thanks for the gracious hospitality, band members and bar staff. I'll be back as time allows. Great job!

I didn't get to check it out, but there's also a downstairs lounge with a full liquor bar where you can also view the show. I appreciate the security when you walk in, metal detectors and staff members who very politely made sure everyone was safe. Scanning our tickets and entering was a breeze. Bartenders were very friendly and welcoming! We were standing at the barricade, so we chatted with the security guards and they were some of the nicest workers I've met at a show! They had lots of water bottles on hand to pass out to anyone who needed it, which is always great to see. The bands sounded great and we had an awesome time. We're already looking forward to the next show we can catch here!

There's a garage next door to the hotel though if you need close parking. Before the show we attended a bourbon/whiskey tasting in the speak easy below the main floor. Super cool experience. Got to watch the sound check for the opening band on a tv screen while in the speak easy. Also we met Arson, the guitarist, who joined us to talk about the booze. When it was over we were able to go to the main floor before anyone else was let into the venue. We got right on the rail! Worth every penny! Sound quality was fantastic and clear. They have massive fans blowing air and this is possibly the only concert I've attended where I was cold and not sweating in the pit. Nice touch Orange Peel. I would come back to this venue in a heartbeat. Long live The Hives!

It's not a terrible drive from Fort Mill, SC, about 45 minute on a Sunday afternoon. I was able to park right in front of the Venue and my ticket was waiting at will call. A smooth and easy check-in and I was able to talk to Todd before the show. I've seen him several times when he collaborates with other musicians but this was the first time solo. He played a mix of originals and covers. After several songs others joined him for several songs. They were all great on a Dave Mason original, Feelin Alright. Many know the song from the Joe Cocker cover. The band was great, Todd with some great guitar licks and a lead riff, the bass player was laying the line, the drummer on time and the keyboard player, Bazz The GranDude, with a nice mini-solo. Very impressed with the lady on the mixing board. She was out front on her iPad and got the vocal & instrument mix solid. It was a fun time and I hope to return before the summers done.
