I have an 2013 iMac that was running slower and slower. I wasn't thrilled about buying a new one as they've downsized the hard drive capacity without a significant increase in price. I decided to upgrade by original hard drive to a solid state drive and took it to GP Geek in The Village. They are right next to CVS on the parking lot side. The iMac models from 2013 onward have their screens glued on so they needed to order the adhesive kit and that took a few days. We were out of town so it worked out perfectly. They replaced my old drive with the new SSD and migrated everything from the old drive. The price was very reasonable and everything is working great. The system now is ready to go in about ten seconds from pressing the power button. This was taking several minutes before. Anything I open is now nearly instantaneous. It basically turned an eight year old machine into a brand new one! I'd definitely recommend Grosse Pointe Geek for any computer work. read more

I have brought in both a desk top and lap top for switching out and updating my computers, and it's done quickly, and with helpfulness that you can't get at a big box store. Walked in. One young guy was on a video call told me he would be with me in a minute. I walked around. I knew what I wanted. He had a bad connection on call. Never looked at me or asked what I was looking for. One simple question is all he needed to ask. I was looking for an Apple Watch charger. I looked at all available chargers. Twice. Not a "hey, can I direct you to what you're looking for". Nothing. Even when I walked out. Nothing. This is the worst customer service I have had in the Pointes in a long time. Don't go. This is a great place with helpful and friendly Knowledgeable people that have patience with problem solving. I brought in an Apple Laptop that I've been trying to download photo's and videos (that were taking up too much memory) onto an external portable drive. I tried to get help to do this up North and also from a so-called computer expert from Royal Oak and had no results (Both said they knew how to work on Apple). The two guys at this Grosse Pointe location resolved the problem I was having and even assisted me in updating my software to the latest version I needed. Shortly thereafter, I received a return call and help. With Anthony's clarity and guidance, I was able to work with him to resolve my problem. Anthony explained what he would be doing and worked efficiently and competently. In my experience with Grosse Pointe Geeks, I have always been completely satisfied and totally overwhelmed by their desire to help and their positive attitude. I must also add that I also received a call from Nathanial but could not take the call. Obviously, there is always someone available to help. The person taking the calls, too, is very pleasant and professional. Kind staff, however in my time spent with Grosse Pointe Geek over the course of the last two months, taking that leap of finally upgrading my at-home office space, I was met with issue after issue and empty promise after empty promise with their staff lack of communication and efficiency. Talk about heightened stress compromising my work flow...on multiple occasions. At the beginning after I read their reviews, I felt confident. In fact, it seems to have started out as a perfect resource and support for all the changes I wanted to implement in up-leveling my technical side of my business. The person I was dealing with, Issac, was more than accommodating, resourceful, supportive, and educational. We worked on easy stuff, or so I thought, replacing my 10-year old computer, transfer data from one machine to a new one, optimal backup drives, etc. However, the multiple excuses, lack of follow through and empty promises with the entire staff were enough to overwhelm me and ultimately affect my business! My first issue was when I got my new computer back from them to transfer the data from my old computer, hours later while leading an on-line virtual zoom session with multiple clients, my entire screen just fell off! Session gone. And computer back into the shop. There have been other issues since, believe me, but this is just the beginning. After time, it was like I was coming back into a relationship that started healthy and great but then the toxic behavior kept showing up and I was the fool wanting it to be different and it simply never changed from incident no. 1. If you are looking for a simple project of replacing a battery or a small issue comes up with your computer, then I believe the experience might be a better one than I had with this company! read more

I had a unique Comcast excessive data usage problem for which Comcast was no help and wanted to charge me additional data costs. GPG cleaned my computer assuming some type of malware and when that wasn't the problem James come to my home. In a short period of time he identified a malfunctioning program that was causing the problem and 'voila'...problem resolved! My 4-year-old Gateway laptop died due to a bad motherboard. I had lots of important stuff on the hard drive that I had not backed up (I know...stupid me). A company in Southfield quoted me a price of $700.00(!) to recover my data. (I kid you not. That's what they quoted me.) I subsequently took my laptop to Grosse Pointe Geek and they recovered my data and copied it onto my external hard drive for $70.00. THE SAME DAY! Hats off to Evan and the guys at GP Geek. Great location in Grosse Pointe village near the CVS. It was very convenient to just stop in one day to get a price on cleaning up viruses on my laptop. The price seemed reasonable and the guy at the counter was friendly. I brought my laptop in and had it back in a couple days running much better than it had before with none of those annoying pop-ups and advertisements. I am self employed with a home based business in Grosse Pointe Park. I have depended on Grosse Pointe Geek for the last 5 or more years to keep my computer-dependent business running smoothly despite the occasional computer issues that are beyond my ability to address. I have worked with many different GPG employees over the years, through remote sessions, on site (e.g. my office) servicing, and in-store when my motherboard crashed AND my external back up drive malfunctioned at the same time (aka a perfect storm). I dropped my PC off at Grosse Pointe Geek on a Saturday. My problem was that my PC had been crashing repeatedly and now it wouldn't start at all. On Wednesday I called them and they said "someone's looking at it right now". Clearly this was not true, but I didn't argue it. On Thursday they called me and said that the only problem was the video card and I just needed a new video card and then it would run properly. So my wife went down Thursday to pick it up. This is a large and heavy desktop machine and they did not offer to carry it to the car for her. Not too big a deal, but the PC is almost bigger than she is so that would have been polite. This weekend I bought a new video card and installed it in the PC. And, yes, it booted up right away, but now it still crashes every 5-10 minutes and requires a reboot each time. So it needed a new video card to reboot, but once installed it didn't solve the crashing problem. From Saturday to Wednesday I don't even think they looked at my PC until I called, and then they appear to have only done a rudimentary check to see what was wrong. So I'm out $45 and I won't be going back there again. read more
