If you're looking for a Santa Barbara yoga community, then you need to come to Yoga Soup…read more I've been practicing with Yoga Soup for several years now, starting with their intro month membership (which has great student and senior rates available too) before transitioning to be part of their work-trade team. What originally brought me to the studio was the undeniable sense of community that exudes from the space. Here, yoga is more than a physical practice on the matt. And honestly for me, it's been a place to explore what it means to be human and how I want to show up for myself, those around me, and more generally, the world. But maybe more importantly, there's truly a class for everyone. Yoga Soup can be your place to find a woman's circle or to get in a sweaty vinyasa flow or shake it out dancing. Whatever it is, what I love is that each class feels like it's part of larger mosaic that reflects a wide diversity of offerings, modalities, perspectives, and styles, all intended to help you find what you need, when you need it. Last year, I completed Yoga Soup's 300 hour advanced yoga teacher training taught by Dora Chan, Jazmin Ment, Cynthia Abulafia, and Luca Cupery. This training went beyond my wildest expectations. The depth of knowledge from the teachers, the support from the studio, and the inclusive, welcoming culture set by the whole community is second to none. If you're interested in deepening your yoga practice (regardless of whether or not you want to teach), I highly highly recommend this program. Or if you're just getting started on your studies, they also offer a 200 hour yoga teacher training - which I am honored to be supporting this year! With so many yoga studio's in California - and Santa Barbara - you truly can't go wrong. But, for me, I am so grateful to have found a home for my practice at Yoga Soup.

Luca and Eddie (the owners) are loving people and great leaders who are dedicated to their craft. The yoga soup community is special and unlike anything else!

This place is a GREAT place to work out:…read more The instructors really get to know their clients, and they remember your needs and skill level. The classes are small, & the equipment is the highest quality(includes reformers, springboard, and TRX), so your workouts can be modified depending on your needs. Its super easy to sign up for classes/manage your gym calendar; all done online, but I've also been able to be squeezed in a class by calling at last minute. The gym is super clean and has friendly relaxed vibe. And there's loads of parking. I've been a member for a few months. I have done pilates at other studios, but somehow this one is very different. I'm amazed at how accommodating the owner is. There's no contacts or joining fees, you can sign up for a package or a monthly membership. After my first class I decided to get a gold membership. I justified the expense to myself, by saying to myself, "If you can shrink a pants size, you will have saved money by fitting back into the multi jeans you payed to much money for." I was right. I'm more toned than I have been in years. Also other people have noticed and made comments. Feels awesome.

Body by Emilee: I'd never done Pilates (or really any…read moreorganized exercise) until I started with Emilee 5 years ago. Since then I have had classes with other instructors, but I haven't liked any of them quite as much as I like working with Emilee. She is a great trainer, watching every move, changing exercises to suit your needs and moods. Some days she pushes you hard enough to be sore the next day, others are more focused on working the really deep core. You never get too much into a routine--always pushing different muscles in different ways. I discovered just how effective Emilee was at crafting bodies when I found myself in a contest at a pub--who could hold the stein of beer at arms length the longest. I assumed I would be hopeless. I was as surprised as any when I outlasted all these big muscular dudes! I'd built core and back muscles to balance and support my arms. Huh! I also gained half an inch after doing Pilates for a few years--I stand straight, which I had never done previously. Thank you Emilee. Emilee is wonderful fun, with an infectious personality. She makes workouts fun and I love Pilates, but I would not have become a devotee without Emilee as a trainer.

We were lucky to find Emilee, who has been trained by the top scoliosis teacher in the country. We immediately felt welcomed and encouraged. The class was challenging yet Emilee was helpful in guiding each participant through the poses, checking for correct posture and positioning. I am not a yogi but by the end of the hour I felt amazingly stretched and open. What's more, she inspired my daughter to continue yoga and pilates at home. Emilee made quite an impression on us both with her knowledge and enthusiasm. I am only sorry we don't live in Santa Barbara to take advantage of her classes.
