By not having a safe space for the disabled, high-risk, or chronically ill to participate, they are perpetuating disabled invisibility and marginalization and creating a life-threatening environment. You are not intersectional unless you actively, visibly, and consistently stand with your disabled siblings. You virtue signal by saying your queer and on Tongva land yet you don't require masks which forces the at-risk to safely participate only by remote videos. This perpetuates disabled othering, stigmatization, shunning, and invisibility. In culture that now ignores and erases the trauma, death, and injury of the ever-present syndemic by not masking, not distancing, and not providing effective ventilation, this keeps the disabled alone at home where they can safely exist. This is not what allyship and community looks like. OOOBNA (on our own but never alone) is not an acceptable or comparable solution for disabled customers. It perpetuates isolation and invisibility. It erases the disabled from public view and doesn't provide the same level of service or experience of your on-site brand and business. Invest in effective on-site ventilation, 6-foot distance floor marking, and N95 masks (they're cheap now). Dedicate several regular sessions per week where masks, distance, and ventilation are required. And make amends to the disabled community by making visible and sustained efforts to invite them to participate safely. Until this happens, you only have able-bodied/pre-disabled customers, and have internalized the inherent discrimination of capitalism. You have knowingly discarded the generation of queers before you who died fighting for HIV/AIDS care and destigmatization, or who continue to live with chronic illness. They fought simply to live so you could dance and be free. The disabling effects of Long COVID are an ironic challenge to the success of your business. You put all your customers at risk of developing it by abandoning the same mitigation measures that had once been embraced and fiercely defended. Despite having had 3 years to conceive and implement a sustainable format that protects disabled customers, disabilty-inducing actions continue. If you don't protect both the disabled and the pre-disabled alike, you are creating a business that will simply result in future disabled people who cannot remain customers. It's in your basic business interest to make the space safe for everyone.

Pony Sweat is a dance exercise class based in LA, with all classes streaming on Zoom currently. They are $5 per class, but they won't turn anyone away for lack of funds. I signed up for the October routine, which is a little more choreographed and is done to the same playlist each time, with some mat work at the end. The other class seems to be a more free-form dance party with a different playlist each time. The live stream was super fun and they definitely emphasize that the moves you're doing in your body do NOT have to look like the moves Emilia, the instructor, is doing. And they may look different each time. Just show up the best you can that day and feel what your body needs. I've rarely (if ever) seen this listed and acknowledged before in any way by any company or organization, so it was very cool to learn and understand. The class itself was pretty easy to follow for me as I've been doing a lot of dance-based exercise workouts during quarantine. My boyfriend participated with me and he was able to do what felt right to him during the one hour session. At the end you had the option to turn your camera on and say hello to everyone. Steve and Chanzie were some of the main characters in the "Alive and Kicking" documentary and thought they looked cool and I should try them out. I'm still a beginner, so looking more "natural" is super fun to work on because it makes dancing so much more enjoyable and playful. They're the perfect teachers to help someone like me that is still trying to lose his two left feet. When I started my swing dance journey, *any* form of dancing terrified me. Once I learned the basics, going to Steve, Hunter, Chanzie, and Steve's wife Karine really helped elevate my skills and improved my confidence on the dance floor. They've totally recharged my interest in dancing and my desire to become a better dancer and I'd recommend them to anyone at any level. One of the very few professional stretching/contortion classes available in the LA area. If you want to get more flexible, these instructors know how to safely build up those muscles so that you can actively and correctly increase your body's mobility and range of movement. The best part is that you don't have to start off being flexible at all. They work with your body to adjust and modify exercises so that you're still working out the intended muscle group. You never need to bring your own mat, resistance bands, nor yoga strap because they provide everything for you. Their equipment is always clean because they provide spray bottles and handcloths for you to wipe everything down at the end. Even though their physical location is temporarily closed due to the "Safer at Home" order, they're still streaming online group classes through Zoom for only $8.99! I've been taking their "Intro to Contortion" and "Strength and Conditioning" classes to (at least marginally) maintain my flexibility and strength for aerial silks. I learned Zumba is a good cardio work out and during my search, I came across Michael's Zumba at Hollywood Dance Center. Here are my reasons why I got addicted to Michael's Zumba classes; 1. Michael incorporates salsa moves with a lot of squats, stretching, and constant cardio movements that keeps the heart rate up the whole time! I never sweat this much even when I am running/jogging (which I hate!). I feel like my whole body gets worked out and it feels great! 2. There are constant big arm movements so my unbalanced posture/strength from left to right of my body got improved and seems more balanced. I had my physical therapist examine me today and he confirmed the improvement as well. 3. Michael is fun and super energetic instructor. He cracks up the whole class all the time! Big motivator who spends the entire hour doing all the movements himself, drenched in sweat in front of the class and correcting the participants individually time to time. He covers basic steps ahead and makes it repetitive throughout the song so it is easy to follow and in the end, you end up memorizing it easily. But don't get fooled. It gets pretty tuff when he mixes all the movements consecutively and you will completely be out of breath! 4. I paid $6 for the individual class. After my 1st class, I immediately purchased 10 classes pass for $50 and on top of that, Michael throws in 1 extra free class. So it ends up being $4.50 per class. Crazy best deal. Trust me. I looked everywhere. 5. All the people in the class are very friendly, energetic, always laughing and clapping. No matter what age group you're in, what back ground you're from, male or female,,, doesn't matter! Everyone surely loves Michael, the music, zumba and definitely good energy here! 6. The studio is spacious, high ceiling, and the air feels fairly cool. The class is at night or early in the morning so I assume that it won't get affected by the summer heat. 7. Michael also makes CDs for all of us so we can listen to all the new songs and get familiarized. I mean... Michael. Do you even make any money off of these classes? I love MIchael! I love his classes! I actually wait for his class ALL WEEK~!!
