I end up at least once a year having to go to an event that is too far from the airport to take a cab and too much of a hassle to rent a car. I was flying into SFO but needed to get to Carmel CA. I found the Monterey Airbus which was perfect for what I needed. I booked online and they had good instructions on the website of where to catch the shuttles and when. They even sent me a text reminder the day of my rides. The driver pulls up on time or even early, he has my name on the list, I hop in and away we go. For me it was perfect. I could read, sleep, look out the window or play games on my phone. Great service. Nice, safe and clean. The bus drops you off in downtown Monterey. There were a few restaurants in walking distance to have lunch, then, I got an uber from Monterey to Carmel which is a shorter trip. It was very easy to make this connection and convenient. It is very reasonable alternative to a cab, uber, train or sedan. I highly recommend it and will certainly use it again. read more

I am usually satisfied with Monterey Airbus service however today I've been waiting at SFO domestic terminal for a reserved seat for over 30 min and after calling the office 17 min ago was told that the driver had a full bus and so was just leaving the int'l terminal. If the schedule posted and used to book is not accurate unless the bus doesn't have passengers that seems absurd. Airbus has my cell number so text me that I'm going to wait and for how long. Second time riding and thought the driver was pre-occupied. On the phone (personal calls); and chewed/spit. Felt weird. That aside this service is very prompt. I am not sure will use again. Lastly, the vehicle needs work as the emergency exit window was unsealed (may be broken) and the shocks are probably gone as it is a very bumpy ride - especially going to SJ/SF. read more

My driver called me half an hour in advance to confirm my ride. I mistakenly thought that was my another yellow cab which I canceled before, so I told my driver I canceled the reservation. Despite the misunderstanding, my driver was able to quickly come back to pick me up so that I could make it to the airport. The company really cares about its customers - it has an agile operation and the employees went out of their ways to help the customers. Plus, the cars and shuttle buses are super clean so you'd have comfortable rides. I would highly recommend Monterey Airbus!!! read more

DON'T USE THEM! I booked easily, they billed me, was picked up on time, VAN OVERHEATED, BROKEN DOWN ON SIDE OF ROAD 1.5 HOURS AWAY FROM MY DESTINATION, forced to uber to make my meeting. Uber cost $85 and tried 8x to reach Chris the manager leaving messages. NEVER CALLED BACK virtually impossible to reach. I'm tired of trying to resolve like a nice person.....basically they don't stand behind their service, customer means nothing after they receive payment. Be careful. DO NOT expect you will get ride 100%. Booked very early morning bus but they never showed up. I waited for about 15 min. No call from them. Since they didn't come to pick me up, I called them and they told me there is no bus driver available and I had to use another transportation. There was no other transportation in that early morning. Agree with other reviewers that the customer service is terrible. The company does what is convenient for themselves and does not care about the customers. Scheduling is a hassle. If you need to cancel, they will only issue a credit. The price is expensive. The ride is uncomfortable. I only use this service when absolutely necessary. I prefer to fly from MRY to SFO or rent a car. Wish there were other shuttle options between MRY and SFO. I have used Monterey Airbus a few times to SFO. Each time, about half the drivers drive like maniacs. Speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. The newly weds sitting behind me were white as a ghost with fear. Last Sunday, coming back from SFO, it was kinda hot. There were about 30 of us in the bus and it was quite hot in the bus. I asked the driver for some AC and he said "if I run the AC for the whole bus, it hurts gas mileage and I'll have to stop for gas. Do you want me to stop for gas?" What a bunch of BS. I glanced at the gas gauge on the way out and there was plenty of gas. Of course the driver has his dashboard AC running for his comfort. I have used them twice so far. I didn't see why the reviews aren't better. I got an email the day before, reminding me of my scheduled shuttle. I got a text message the day of the shuttle about 15 minutes before pickup, notifying me of the shuttle's current location. I had to re-schedule my pickup from SFO due to a flight change, and this was accomplished by email - I received a cheerful response. The drivers were safe and courteous. One driver offered free bottles of water. The shuttle itself was clean and comfortable. No negatives whatsoever that I could detect. read more

I thought I wrote a review about this company before. So here's a summary: the positives outweigh the negatives I've used the shuttle probably half a dozen times (round trip - so a dozen experiences). I continue using it, basically, because I am lazy and cheap. I hate driving up to SJC, hate paying for airport parking, etc. But that doesn't mean I enjoy this alternative. There is usually at least one asshole on the bus shouting into his or her cell phone about stupid things that could wait. And there's usually another asshole eating something that stinks up the whole bus. And then you have the personal music, electronic games and other sound effects, etc. and it's just a misophoniac's nightmare. Basically, it's what you expect when you encounter strangers on a bus -- only the seats are nicer, they give you a little bottle of water, there is allegedly wi-fi (that never seems to actually function), and the fare is a bit higher. The drivers are hit or miss. Some are friendly; some are weirdos; some are friendly weirdos. Nearly all drive like maniacs, but that's so they stay on schedule. If you decide this option for you, here are my suggestions: * book online -- you save some $ and avoid the not-quite-thrilled-to-talk-with-you "customer service" reps on the phone * bring earplugs and/or headphones -- really good ones, and expect that you'll still hear the assholes through 'em * bring cash to tip the drivers -- I usually tip $5 for one-way MRY-SJC if I have a carry-on bag, or $10 if I have heavy, checked luggage * don't bring stinky food (why do I even have to say this? because so many people are inconsiderate assholes, that's why) * if you bring a bratty kid, please bring little bottles of booze to share with fellow travellers * if you have any tendency towards car sickness, take some medication for it first please (seriously, these are not Driving Miss Daisy drivers) -- I say this because someone once puked on the bus and I thought I was going to puke and/or kill someone, so you could potentially prevent a homicide * wear layers (you should probably be doing this anywhow if you're travelling) -- the temperature in the van can fluctuate, and once the one person who had the ability to open the one window in the passenger portion refused because she was cold so the rest of us were stuck feeling stuffy and hot * have a pre-drink so you can chill out because it's going to be an experience read more

I had an emergency where I needed to go from Monterey to SFO early the next morning and didn't have a ride. I made this reservation online just a little after 10pm for a 5am pickup the next day thinking with my email confirmation that things would be OK. Well, their office neglected to add my reservation to their pickup list. I figured this out after 30 minutes of waiting in the cold outside. Then I called the.... "answering service". The woman who answered sounded like she eats cigarettes for breakfast and answered the phone with a deep disgruntled sigh. I explained my situation to her. Dead silence. Hello? Then she pulls up my reservation and says "I see your reservation and you were not put on the pickup list." No apology. I asked her if she could get a hold of the driver to let them know to pick me up. Nope, she can't do that. Seriously, why do they have an answering service if they are that useless? All she can do is look up my reservation. She told me she can't even make reservations. So completely useless and to add insult to injury, she was a total B. I have to wait until the office opens at 6:30am to get a refund. Now I have to pay over $120 on a last minute rental car to take me to the airport and since I can't get one until 7am guess what? Absolutely horrible experience with this company. I had reservations scheduled on two separate dates. On the first date they never showed up. The office staff could not locate the driver or get in touch with him/her. I then tried to cancel the second scheduled date for a refund as I did not trust them to show up again and was informed that I could only receive a credit for future use. Hit or miss. I've had great experiences using the service, and I've been left at the curb watching the shuttle drive away, and not been able to get to my destination. It seems there's a communication problem between drivers and the main office. I've had fast drivers who get people there quickly, and I've had super slow drivers who get there late. Crappy, stuffy van, must've been 85 degrees inside on the way to the airport. The driver was prompt though so I'll give this 2 stars. The vehicle seriously felt and sounded like it was about ready to fall apart and did not feel safe to me. Not the most relaxing or comfortable way to start/end your trip. Also, the WiFi doesn't work on the bus even though it is a prominent part of their advertising campaign. I'll be using another service in the future...if one exists in Monterey that is. **UPDATE: March 2014** 5 months later, WiFi still doesn't work. Just fix it already. It's not a deal breaker for me but I hate false advertising. Also, the suspension on the van is still sketchy. I felt like I was on a small boat in high seas. Monterey Airbus is a very good means of transportation to SFO. It was very convenient, the price is fair, the driver was a gentleman, the bus was very clean, they offered water, they provide free WiFi that works great, and they were ON TIME. I'm also happy that it was in a larger van than what is shown in the photo. The only lame thing, and it's not the fault of Monterey Airbus, was the Bozo sitting in the front that saved all of his business calls for the drive. He was loud & obnoxious and had to let everyone know he was on a business call. He reminded me of the goofy commercial that says, "OK Business Pro, you know who you are". UGH!!! Tip: bring a good pair of Bose headphones in case the "Business Pro" is on your bus. It was convenient and I couldn't have been more pleased. read more

THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. VERY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE. I booked a reservation only to find out the next morning that they DO NOT pick up at my office. Nowhere on their reservation site, form, or FAQ did it indicate /prohibit making the reservation. Monterey Airbus then proceeded to change my pick up location and change the fee for my pick up. This was not acceptable because I booked under the understanding that I would be picked up at my office. I called their customer service and told them to cancel because this was not what I originally booked and it wasn't acceptable. Plus, they should not even make the change w/o my consent! This was basically FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. They said there was still a $10 cancellation fee when this was an error on their system for NOT TELLING CUSTOMERS WHERE ALLOWABLE PICKUP LOCATIONS ARE. Then the customer service agents, Isabel and later I spoke to Jennifer, were both confrontational, impatient, and blantatly RUDE. This should be a simple fix! I asked to speak to their manager, Chris, whom wasn't even in (this was already past 9:30AM). HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. $10 is a small amount of money and I cannot believe that they would try to keep that even if its an error on their system. STAY AWAY! read more

If there is another option, take it. My van was 30 minutes late, of which the entire time was a mess of communication with the customer support. The van was freezing, the driver picked up a bunch of people that were not scheduled, which caused the people that were scheduled to not have space. My experience was dis-organized and unreliable. Horrible! Do not use this shuttle! It's my first time trying it out from San Jose Airport to Monterey and the shuttle arrived 50 minutes late! ! ! Just about 30 seconds after he picked me up, we stopped at the next terminal and the driver offered everyone a chance to get off the shuttle to use the restroom! No wonder he was so late... This is ridiculous. Not to mention, the main office told me he was running about 7 minutes late. TIP- There is a new city bus service that leaves from the USO station at the San Jose Airport (located across the street from the regular bus station between Terminal A and B). The bus is line 81 to Fort Hunter Ligget and the fare is $12 one way and it drops you off in Salinas. During the week it leaves San Jose at 10:45am & 7:45 pm. No reservations required and you just pay cash on arrival. I've used it before and it's extremely convenient and timely! read more

We have been using this service for a couple of months now. I want to love it and say that it is fabulous but... so far each time we have used it, it has been late. Not "missed my plane late" but late enough that it isn't fun. Then, today, our names weren't on the list of passengers. Even with my confirmation, the guy was hesitant about letting me on the bus and I had to call to find out if it was okay. He wouldn't call the dispatcher. But a few cautions: 1 check out your travel time & check in time. I was hoping to leave they're suggested time but if I had I would have never made my flight. This is a super convenient service and the drivers are always friendly. My 6:30am ride up to SJC was in a SUV. No issues. However, as much as I want to love the service I can't. The ride on the shuttle bus is extremely bumpy. I was bouncing up and down in my seat and got a headache. Another passenger had to take his bag out of the overhead storage because it was going to fall out. I would give a 5 star rating if the vehicle was better. I live in Monterey. I have used Monterey Airbus and it has been good until this last trip to Europe over the holidays. When I was in the air, Monterey Airbus sent an email to let me know that the pick up time was rescheduled to 11:15PM instead of 9:30PM as initially booked. My flight arrived earlier at 7:00PM. I called the office when the plane was on the tarmac, The office told me there was a van dropping passengers in SJ and SFO by 7:30PM. The office would call the van driver and let her know to pick me up. I waited and waited then called the office back. The story was then changed to that the van had malfunctional wipers and it was towed to Monterey. The driver was sent back via Uber. When the 11:15 driver came. He advised me that Monterey Airbus cancelled the 9:30PM pick up because there were only 2 passengers to pick up, myself and another passenger. The driver was very nice. He apologized for Monterey Airbus. He also added that Monterey Airbus has gone down in QUALITY from what it used to be. Monterey Airbus was dishonest for not honoring the contract it has had with passengers. It should do what it can to honor the contract because the ride was paid up front and the passenger had no other way out. It could send me in the Uber with the driver as the story went. Had Monterey Airbus told me I needed to wait at SFO for 4 hours after 24 hours of flying back from Europe, I would first not book the services and make other arrangements. Stress free travel!!!! So asking people for favors is something I do not like doing, especially when I need a ride to the airport at 5:30 in the morning. Enter Monterey Airbus! For just $35 I bought a one way reservation from Monterey to the San Jose Airport and it was worth every dime. The website made it easy to make the reservation, the pick up location is centrally located in downtown Monterey, the shuttle showed up on time, and the driver was super friendly. I realized at 11:30pm last night I had accidentally made a reservation for 5:30pm instead of AM and called their help line. The customer service rep was helpful by letting me know that although he couldn't change the reservation, that there was room for me to show up in the morning and the driver would take care if my mistake. I showed up early and the driver took care of me...super easy!!!! It's so nice to be able to sit back and let someone else do the driving. I'll be certain to use the Airbus again for my transportation needs. read more

Trying to find a way between SFO & Monterey? Or SJC & Monterey? Or even SFO & SJC?! Welllll... this is your best bet! I used the Monterey Salinas Airbus to travel between SFO & Monterey roundtrip. Yes, it was not cheap. But it was also very convenient. And saved me a lot of time! Roundtrip between SFO & Monterey was $90. I booked my reservation online. It was super easy and quick. The ride down was smooth. We made a stop at SJC to pick up the San Jose people along the way to Monterey. I was at my destination in just a little over two hours (with traffic on the 101). Coming back up to SFO had a few more passengers on the bus but we still got back just in time. If you are looking for transportation, and are willing to dish out a little more cash, this is your best bet between SFO, SJC & Monterey! read more

I always use the Monterey Airbus when i fly to and from SJC. I live in Seaside and try to fly out of Monterey when i can, but sometimes its cheaper or there are more options if I use SJC. I've used the airbus service 6 or so times and always reserve online. They've been on time 5 out of 6 times and it was on my return, so who gives a shit. You can pick a few locations for pickup or dropoff--or pay extra to have them drop you off at home. Nice drivers, and a quick easy ride. They give you cute little waters too--bonus. The back of the bus can be bumpy, FYI. I always see a $5 off when booking online but i can't remember what the deal is with that. It's always $35 each way. I'd give it -9 stars if I could. Without a doubt the most uncomfortable bus/shuttle I've ever been on. Nobody could fit their legs into the space given (see photo). I saw a 5'4" skinny girl move to the back bench due to the uncomfortable seats. Plus, if you have a bad back, or any bodily pain, be warned that the buses have NO shocks. Picked me up on time and got me to the airport ahead of the time, plus, it was a safe journey. So another fail for the Monterey Airbus. They've updated their technology so you can track your driver, and their arrival. Great. I landed, got the link texted to me, tried following link, it failed, I called, so as not to miss my pickup, call center said they were at Terminal A, go ahead a get to 10 @terminal B, they are headed that way. I arrive, and wait. I keep waiting. 15 minutes go by, I call, they apologize, say it is the techs fault, and book me on the next shuttle, an hour later. No compensation, discount, or anything for the wasted time. When is this business going to find someone that actually understand customer service, how to actually call the driver if the new tech is messing up, and simply relay to the ckie t the truth. Prompt and Professional. My family and I recently rode the AirBus from SFO to Monterey. After a LONG flight, we went out to the pickup location indicated on their website. The van pulled up at the exact time it was supposed to and the driver with a smile to load our bags. We rode home comfortably while watching Netflix on our devices using the free Wifi on board!
