You can immediately taste the difference. It's freaking amazing. I can't use the other F word. Gelato I'm told has egg yolk and that gives it a "body" missing in ice cream. You do have to order what suits you, cause gelato or ice cream for that matter is very subjective. My daughter got the crema di grom. That's dark chocolate egg yolk with cookies and it's to Die For! I had the nougat and the grand torino(flavor of the month) good not amazing but no complaints. The quality shines regardless. I also had their pre package small caffe gelato at the Marco Polo Venice Airport. This too was amazing! We came here on Rick Steve's recommendation and I thank him. My only regret was I didn't have time to sample all their other flavors. read more

So good! There are quite a few Groms around and it's reliable and very good. Service has been exceptionally friendly. We stopped by a few times (once twice in an afternoon). Had the chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors and all were super good. The chocolate was incredibly rich and not overwhelmingly sweet, a simple but true to what it should be example. I also really liked the fragola (strawberry) gelato because it had real pieces of strawberry in it, wasn't unnaturally sweet and literally tasted like pureed strawberry except slightly creamier. read more

Grom was the first out of (more than a few) gelaterias that I tried over the course of a 2-week Italy trip. My philosophy is that I try to seek out mom-and-pop shops for food so this was the only gelateria in my entire trip that is part of a chain. Apparently you can find Groms all over Italy. It passes the gelato test because the flavor and color come exclusively from the ingredients they use, there are seasonal flavors and the gelati are stored in tubs. Gelato is stored in a cup or a cone though you can purchase a cone with chocolate and nuts for €0.50. I got the Gianduia (with Venezuelan chocolate and hazelnut chips) with the chocolate and nut cone. While this cone wasn't certainly the best gelato that I had hazelnut and chocolate is always one of my tried-and-true flavors and it did its job of satiating my gelato craving. My only issue was that it melted a bit too quickly for my liking less than 5 minutes after going outside - usually a good quality gelato won't melt so quickly. read more

There are multiple Grom around town, so stop by any of them for a sweet treat as you are wandering around the city. They are also open very late (they were one of the only shops open when we were wandering around at night), so they are the perfect accompliment to a night stroll. I liked the nougat flavor because it had chunks of nougat in it that provided a nice texture contrast to the super smooth and creamy gelato. Would recommend beind adventurous because you may discover a new favourite! read more

After traveling through Italy for a week, and seeing GROM pretty much everywhere, I had to try it (cmon, it's in the lonely planet guide!). I was let down. I tried three flavors: salted caramel, pistachio, and strawberry. The first two were samples, and I ended up picking strawberry without a taste. It was more of a sorbet... And not a great one at that. I'm sure I was spoiled by the dozen other shops I visited, but I wasn't blown away at all. If you're limiting yourself to only a few sweets, take a pass. Don't follow the directions Yelp gives when you map it out. It gives you a completely different route which might take you to dark alley ways and resident blocks. After getting lost and scared out of our minds in search for Grom, we asked a very nice guy from the restaurant we dined at the day before for directions. He was out trying to get customer in for dinner. You'll notice they do that there. So he said, just follow the main road and over three pontes (bridges) by a McDonald's. Surely, there it was. Modern looking, unlike the rest of the stores and structures in Venice. Friendly service. Try out some samples and take your pick. You can order 2 flavors for a small cup. I had the Pear and coffee. YUM! Give it a try. It's no gelato though. read more

If you're looking for really good gelato in venice but don't want to get ripped off by the other 90 gelato shops on the island, then stop by here! We've heard many great things about Grom and we like the idea it uses all natural flavouring with no artificial colours or additives. Their cups may be small but they are very generous with their scoops! I just wish they had more flavours to choose from but I guess it's about quality and not quantity. read more

It's hard to pass up a beautiful gelato shop in Italy and Groms are literally everywhere! We had been told to give it a shot so we sought out the closest one (15 min walk) and unfortunately was a bit disappointed. You couldn't see the ice cream cause they kept them in tins with lids and you needed to pay before you could pick or even sample flavors. It was all a bit hasty and sadly the gelato wasn't even that good. read more

GROMMM! Grom is featured in a Lonely Planet guidebook, so we made the effort to come here. Much to my later surprise, Grom is a chain. If you are in Italy, you will probably see them in many major cities. With that said, Grom is good. Italian gelato is very soft, almost like an American soft serve-- this can be good or bad, good because it's delicious, but bad because it melts so quickly. However, only 3 stars for this particular location. The servers will ask you if you want cookies or whip cream with your ice cream, but they won't inform you voluntarily that it will be 40 cents Euro extra. In addition, the whip cream on your ice cream was just disgusting-- we ended up shaving it off and throwing it away. In addition, the servers also won't voluntarily check with you that the 'medium' cone allows for 3 flavors. I had gotten 2 just because I assumed a 3rd flavor would fall from the cone. But really, 2 flavors would be the cost of a 'small'. It wasn't until I went to Florence that a bigger shop and more signs in the store informed me about this. read more

Out of all the gelato places in Venice, Grom is probably feels like the most authentic gelato place we found in Venice. Yes, it is a chain, but it is a chain that does produce gelato on its own premises in the metal containers that I am used to seeing in the better gelato places back in North America. We had ordered a small cup to share with two flavors in it. Salted caramel and crema di Grom; which has chocolate bits and cookies in a very creamy eggy base. The gelato texture was very soft, but also started melting pretty quickly, mostly because there are no stabilizers in their products - so eat up quickly, not that that request is much of a hardship. The staff is pretty friendly and offer up suggested parings if asked for a recommendation - we had sampled the chocolate and the pistachio and their feature flavor of November before settling on Crema di Grom, which was delicious. the pistashio is definately very nutty with out any additional flavoring. Their salted Caramel was really good, carmellly with just that hit of salt to keep it from being too sweet. I almost wish I had actually gone into Grom earlier, rather than on my last night in Venice, so I could try more flavors. The pricing is ok, it isn't the cheapest gelato you'll have, but it is of better quality and that is worth the price. One more thing - double check your pricing structure for cone vs the cup, we went with the a piccolo cup, which gives you two flavors, but if you go medium, Grom still only gives you two flavors, the larger cup gives you 3, so it's something to keep in mind when you are ordering. read more

I had the opportunity to visit Venice at the end of a work trip. I found other cities in Italy to have better food and to be less touristy but you can't knock Venice with its bridges, waterways and ancient corridors filled with surprises. One of the hilights of the stay in Venice was the trek to Grom. There are many, many, opportunities to indulge in gelato as you walk through Venice. Nearly every third storefront or the cart parked in front of it is offering gelato. Grom offers quality, service, flavors, and the best ingredients. The store is modern, the flavors range from traditional to exotic, and the service is great. Grom is on my list as one of the places I'd visit on my return trip. read more

I'll admit it, among all the gelato I tried in Italy I tended to like the gelato from the chains the most, at least when I was traveling in larger cities (Milan, Florence, and Venice). Back in the states I genuinely am not a huge chain person but I tended to find the chain gelato to be better flavored, creamier and less airy. Of the 3 chains I tried (the other two being Venchi and Riva Reno) this one was my third one of the bunch. I tried the Crema di Grom, which was chunky, sweet deliciousness of chocolate chips and cookie chunks and the Crema come una volta, which was sadly pretty forgetable. I think if I had only had the Crema di Grom this probably would have been five stars for me, but the Crema come una volta was so boring it threw the cup off. read more

Fantastic Gelato for being a chain. Such a break from the touristy gelato shops with giant mounds of neon colored gelato. I especially loved the vanilla and cookie gelato.
