Gritz Café Review "The Day Vegas Introduced Us to Catfish, Sweet Potato Waffles... and a Missing Collard Green Mystery." June 17, 2026 -- the day Tiffany got insider intel from a Vegas local who told her, "You HAVE to try Gritz Café."That was all she needed to hear. She told me, I checked my Las Vegas Yelp food list, and sure enough -- Gritz Café was already saved. Destiny. Since Tiffany was already near the restaurant and I was still at the hotel, I ordered online. We couldn't enjoy the dine‑in experience this time, but we're saving that for the sequel. The Orders Tiffany went with one of her go‑to comfort dishes: Biscuit & Gravy Scrambled egg hard Potatoes with fried onions I saw Catfish on the menu and immediately felt spiritually connected. I ordered The Mississippi: 3 fried catfish pieces (grilled next time) Collard greens Steamed mixed vegetables Sweet Potato Waffle Extra tartar sauce Extra syrup Then came the hardest part: waiting for Tiffany and the food.I'm a smart husband, so I won't say which one I was more excited for. The Arrival... and the Plot Twist Tiffany arrived with the food, we unpacked everything, and immediately noticed two things missing: My collard greens Her scrambled egg Vegas giveth, Vegas taketh away. Tiffany's Biscuit & Gravy She said it was outstanding, even with the twist:The sausage was cut into pieces and placed on top instead of mixed in.Different, but delicious.Only the missing egg kept it from perfection. My Catfish & Waffle Combo The catfish wasn't as big or thick as the ones I get back home, but the flavor was outstanding -- seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Sweet Potato Waffle?A revelation.Perfect size, perfect thickness, perfect flavor.I'm now a believer. The steamed vegetables were... vegetables.They served their purpose and made me feel like I made at least one healthy decision. But I was really looking forward to those collard greens. Customer Service Redemption Tiffany called the restaurant and was transferred to the manager, Olivia.She was extremely apologetic and assured us the refund would hit my card by the end of the day.(At the time of this writing, it hasn't shown up yet -- but we're giving Vegas grace.) Final Verdict Even with the missing items, the food was delicious, the flavors were on point, and the service recovery was handled well. We're excited to return -- in person -- on our next Vegas trip.Because Gritz Café deserves a proper dine‑in moment.
I cant recommend this place enough. Well worth the wait. The costs are a bit high, but it's not obscene for the quality of the food. Our server was kind, helpful, attentive, and just everything you look for in a server. We waited about 20 minutes to be sat, but you'd expect that at a breakfast place at breakfast time. No concern there. I ordere chicken fried steak- amazing, gritz bites - double amazing, tried my husbands sweet potato waffle - triple amazing! The mac and cheese was just fine. I would easily go back again just got the chicken fried steak, sweet potato waffle, or gritz bites. The ambiance is quite nice. Theres a table dedicated to the matriarch of the establishment, which really adds to the southern, home cooked vibes. The to go counter was busy the whole time we sat, but they seemed to move quickly. We were close enough to the door to hear the hostess telling people they were running out of certain items and that the would had increased to 30 or 40 minutes. Be sure to get there early to not miss out. Everyone was friendly, and the food was phenomenal. Can't ask for anything else.
This place is a 10/10, if you get there at the right time. The food is Amazing! The best catfish I ever had. I strongly suggest getting there super early or after 12. The staff is nice, but eating are inside is small, but that's not problem. The one thing I did not like was the Flop. Minor issue, next time I am in LV is pulling up.
What can I say, the food here is nothing short of amazing. Had the wings, fish, waffles, grits, greens and candied yams. They flavors were flavorful the service was quick and very attentive. Gritz def needs a bigger location. You will wait at least 30 min but well worth it. The ambiance makes you feel like you are dining with extended family and the music selection is great. Our waitress schanel was Amazing at what she does. We will definitely be back.
Every time someone comes out to Las Vegas to visit, I have to bring them here for a great southern meal. Especially my friend from Arkansas. I knew that he would fall in love with his food. And he did. Same great service in a café will look happy satisfied customers. What great music playing in the background. Great start to a great day!
Yum, yum, and yummier! I've been dying to try this spot after hearing about the legendary wait times, so my colleague and I stopped by for lunch. We were seated in about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad at all! Our server was incredibly sweet and attentive. We both ordered the catfish, grits, and waffles (I added eggs with cheese to mine). The waffle was hands-down the best we've ever had, and the catfish was so flavorful. I leveled up my grits with cheese, bacon, and spinach--chef's kiss! It was my colleague's first real soul food experience, and watching him "tear it up" was the highlight of the meal. I'll definitely be back!

We ordered grits w/ cheddar cheese, fried catfish, wings, a classic waffle, and an amazingly delicious southern butter pecan waffle! Oh and a cup of coffee. Food was hot, the grits creamy and cheesy, warm syrup for the waffles and Redhot hot sauce. Whenever we visit Las Vegas, this will be our go to breakfast spot!
I had an opportunity to visit Gritz cafe this past weekend (traveled from Southern California) we were put on a wait list and waited about 40 minutes to be seated, so pack a lil patience. Once in, the cafe was a bit tight, but the atmosphere was a cozy welcoming southern feel. I ordered the 3 catfish, Side of greens, yams & mac and cheese. The food came out to the table timely, presentation was great and the food was absolutely delicious. This spot is a must try if you're ever in Las Vegas. We will definitely be back.
Food, service, and ambiance!! I was in Vegas (from San Diego) and googled soul food and BAM! The staff were friendly and professional. The service was great! And the food was off the chain. Grits fully cooked; melted in my mouth. Catfish; excellent huge potions, seasoned just right and (heat) hot. Huge, soft toasted croissant. And plenty of that old school thick, salty beacon!! Damn!My dude even had leftovers. I took my leftovers back to San Diego. Two people eating a huge tasty breakfast for less than $60. Mrs. Jiles really knows what she is doing. The food was off the chain. Eyeballing other people's food, the mac/cheese, greens, and fried chicken looked so good. I highly recommend. Anything less than a 5 Star can "Kiss My Gritz".
The food here was DELICIOUS!!! I've been trying to find good fried fish spot in Los Angeles to no avail, I had to go all the way to Vegas to find it...lol Anyhoo we tried to go on a Monday and the wait was too long came back the next day and was able to get in within 30 mins. Small restaurant reminds me of back home. Service was great and the food was bomb.com. I can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Vegas.

Now i hardly, if ever, give 5 stars. But man! The hype around this spot was real, and i see why!!! If you are looking for good breakfast in Vegas, that's black owned, you have to hit this spot while you're out there. The service was impeccable!! We came around 1030am, and it wasn't busy, but it was full. We waited a couple mins for a table for 4, which maybe took 10 mins max. We were offered bottled water while we waited, (Vegas was 108 degrees). The waitresses were very sweet. Very knowledgeable as well. Their recommendations were on point cus the food was truly amazing! If you go, it's not called gritz cafe for no reason! Get the grits! I added crushed sausage and cheese to mine and man oh man!! That took it from a 10 to a 20! So good! I ordered the chicken and waffles and it came with a side of gritz. The chicken was perfectly fried. Crispy on the outside. Juicy and flavorful on the inside. Once the hot sauce was added it was even better! The waffle itself was also amazing. Now i love me a Waffle House and i swear by their waffles, but these got them beat by 100000! I ordered a plain waffle, my brother got the yams waffle. (Yams in the batter.) OMG!! That was beyond delicious! My sister got the peach cobbler waffle which might've slightly been a bit better than the sweet potato, and i got the regular waffle which was still a good 10/10! They serve it with hot syrup. (Careful cuz it comes in a metal container that's also hot). They melted butter into the waffle before it comes to your table. It was everything!! I definitely would've came back if i didn't have other reservations. The ambiance was super cute. They don't sell alcohol, so we ordered lemonades and sweet teas. They had a nice pandora playlist playing in the background and by the time we left, there was a line out the door. This place is definitely cute, and everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly. We decided to check it out after seeing it featured on Somebody Feed Phil. The food was good, but it just didn't have that "wow" factor I was hoping for. It was a fun experience, but the wait was extremely long, and the location was a bit out of the way for us. After hearing so much we finally made it out. I called on a weekend to hear that you gotta wait and they cut the line an hour before closing, so we took our chances with a Monday. Paid off. It was literally 8 mins between getting on the list and getting a table for two. There was a party of over 10 waiting. I felt for them, I think they ended up splitting into smaller groups bc otherwise it would've been some time. Even coming on a late Monday morning, it was packed! I love to see it! Ronnie helped check us in and later helped our server Princess, as she seemed swamped towards the end of our meal. Service was great though. We did the Kentucky and Mississippi plates. Sides were grits, greens, Mac and the butter pecan waffle (WORTH the up charge!) music was a bop. Stuff my mom played in the house. They even sang Stevie's version of hbd to a patron. Food. Mom's been looking for a wing that reminded her of my grandma and great grandmas. She said this was it. It was the perfect crisp, cook and flavor. The fish was also tasty. The butter pecan waffle was my favorite side. I've never had pecans in a waffle. It was truly everything. I'm craving one right now! The other sides were just ok. I'd be happy w some catfish and a butter pecan waffle! I guess I'm becoming a water snob. I drink a lot and didn't like theirs. Thankfully they had sparkling. Getting and paying the check took the longest. But I was jamming to the tunes. Princess and Ronnie were fabulous so I told the manager, Olivia. She shared that it was Princess' first day!!! Good food, good service, nice atmosphere I've never liked grits before, but this place changed my mind. I got a hotlinks gritz bowl with jalapeño, cheese, bacon, and fried egg. My family enjoyed the grits here too. Their portions are generous. Try the gritz bowl and add whatever you want on top. Extra toppings are only $.98 each... so really not a blocker. They mixed up some of our orders, but quickly fixed them. You won't leave here hungry. Coffee was okay, a bit weak. Very friendly and helpful staff. Really nice artwork adorned the walls. read more

Of all the stops on our food crawl, Gritz Cafe was hands-down the most satisfying! Comfort food at its finest. I completely cleaned my plate--wings, gritz, greens, and mac 'n' cheese. We arrived a little after 12pm, so it was busy with a few people ahead of us and lots of pickup orders going out, but the wait was only about 10 minutes and absolutely worth it. We were so full after eating that we ordered a slice of sweet potato pie and peach cobbler to go. Our server even surprised me with a slice of cake when she found out it was my birthday--so sweet! Service was great all around. Gritz Cafe is definitely a must-stop for us every time we're in Vegas. read more

11/7/25 I actually saw this restaurant on Somebody Feed Phil. Shrimp Omelet with Potato and Toast was good Fried Porkchop with Grits, Collard Greens and Cornbread were so good! Just a bit too salty on the Collard but mixed it with grits and it was ok. Definitely a restaurant we would go back to the next time we're in Vegas. read more

Out for brunch at a friend's recommendation, we found ourselves at The Grits Café--and I have one question: How did I ever miss this place? I believe they've been around since 2006 (though don't quote me on that!), and even though the café itself is small, it's packed with mighty flavor. From the moment we walked in, it had that welcoming, homey feel that makes you instantly comfortable. Our waitress was fantastic--warm, quick, and perfectly in sync with our lively, chatty group. The atmosphere was upbeat, the service excellent, and the food? Absolutely delicious. Every bite was well-seasoned and full of flavor. A few tips for first-timers: * They're closed on Sundays, so plan accordingly. * Expect a crowd on Fridays and Saturdays--it's clearly a local favorite. * There's indoor and outdoor seating, both cozy and comfortable. I was in town for the Chris Brown concert and like many others I came to Gritz Café after seeing so many great reviews. I fully understand that a popular restaurant will come with a long wait. That was not the issue. The real problem was the lack of communication. I arrived around 1:45 pm and was told there would be about a two hour wait for a table. The hostess suggested I try takeout, which sounded like a good option since there were outdoor seats available. However, when I went to place my takeout order I was told they were no longer accepting any more orders. At that point there was no way to eat at all. I had already spent more than twenty dollars on an Uber to get there only to find out I could not be seated or order anything. I then had to spend even more money on rides to another restaurant and back to my hotel. That part was especially frustrating because a simple sign outside or clearer communication from the hostess could have saved me the trip and the cost. I was excited to try this place but I never even got the chance. Maybe the food is as good as the reviews say, but my experience was more about poor communication than the wait time. Hopefully this is something they can improve on so other guests do not walk away just as disappointed. read more

Somebody Feed Phil led us to this establishment and thank you Phil. We arrived post lunch rush and we were promptly seated by the wonderful Cheyenne. The Gritz had a big menu of delicious options but you really have to choose from the abundance of deliciousness. We all went with combo plates. Some with yam waffles and chicken and a Holy Trinity with cat fish fillets. We also all had "muddy waters" to drink - their version of a Arnie Palmer. Everything arrived hot and delicious - from the Mac n Cheese to waffles and the chicken and fish. Not much talking happened at our table but guttural moans of satisfaction broke the silence. Some sharing occurred but no one left the table hungry. It was an unbutton your top button of your pants situation. The visit was great. I FINALLY got experience the cafe without having to wait. The waitresses greeted as soon as I walked in. There were quite a few customers for 730 AM. I wa seated right away. Only a few tables remained. As soon as I seated I was asked my beverage of choice. Water no ice and some coffee with creamer. Those arrived quickly. I had my eye on an omlett. Ordering the hotlink omlett with spinach, cheese and bell peppers... The omlett came woth potatoes and a toasted croissant. Yum! Rje environment was chill, not loud. The food was good. Worth the visit. I had the opportunity to taste the sweet potato waffle . When I tell you, that sucker is everything, it is EVERYTHING.! You do not beed syrup or anything. I enjoyed my visit. I hope when you go, your visit is great too. Oh! To Gritz, thats for supporting me with the gloves. If you worked the morning of 6 September 25, you know what I am talking about. My daughter has been talking about this place for a while now, and I finally wanted to check it out. We did, and the customer service was outstanding. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was so welcoming and sweet from the moment you walk in to when you leave. As for the food, because that's what this is about, right, it was a 10/10 for me. I ate everything but the plate; I might have eaten that too, but my son was watching . Anyway, check it out and make your own decision. read more

Today was a gentle reminder of how meaningful the simple things can be. I finally had the opportunity to take my neighbor to Gritz Cafe for her very first visit. She had been a bit hesitant at first--having recently relocated from Chicago--and with life and schedules moving so quickly, it took us four months to make it happen. I truly appreciate her patience. As expected, the food was absolutely delicious, but what made the experience even more special was the warmth we received. The customer service was excellent, and Ms. Trina ( Owner) personally came out to greet her and welcome her to Las Vegas. It was such a heartfelt moment--one that reminded me how a simple outing can turn into something truly meaningful. I'm grateful I could share that experience with her and help make Vegas feel just a little more like home. read more

Had an amazing breakfast here. Tried something different with the butter pecan waffle. Also had good grits, eggs, chicken wings, fried catfish, collard greens, fries and some good coffee with flavored creamer. Baby! It was good!!! The ambiance is casual and the service was great! Going in the middle of the week is the best. There was no wait at all. Great R and B played while we had breakfast. Definitely a return spot. read more

Sweet potato waffle of my dreams! I'm still thinking about that waffle. Truly unlike anything I've had before. Crisp edges, a fluffy interior, and luscious chunks of creamy sweet potato scattered throughout. Each bite was heavenly. I paired it with a juicy fried chicken breast, and the combination was beyond fantastic. Sweet and savory magic! On our first visit, the place was so packed we couldn't get a table before closing. But we came back earlier another day and were thrilled to be seated. Expect a wait, this spot is wildly popular and for good reason. It's true soul food with warm Southern hospitality. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I only discovered it after watching Someone Feed Phil. But hey, better late than never. read more

We saw this place on Somebody Feed Phil and tried coming a few weeks ago but they were so busy towards the end of the day they could only offer takeout orders so we tried again and only waited about five minutes to be sat on a Saturday. The food was great. The sweet potato waffle was the winner. Mac & cheese was great, very thick and cheesy. The fried pork chops were flavorful but I was surprised at how thin they were. Corn bread was my least favorite because it was a little on the dry side. When we come back we're going to try some other items but our first visit was really great. I came in for breakfast and was not disappointed. I ordered the Gritz bowl with fried shrimp, grilled onions and sautéed mushrooms and it was amazing and delicious. The grits were cooked to perfection. The staff here were amazing! I highly recommend. read more

2nd time here and it still amazing! Today we had the catfish and grits and the 3 wings and grits with a side of over medium eggs. We got Arnold Palmers for drinks it was all 10:10. We had to wait a little bit before being seated, which was fine, it was crowded. When sat we were greeted warmly by our server and she gave good recommendations. The place is bright, clean and has a jovial feel to it. We loved the wings a lot 10/10! But, the catfish: 100/10, they seasoned them perfectly and fried them nice and hard. Ohhhh the Gritz were good too... It called the Gritz Cafe for a reason. The owner came by and greeted each table and was so friendly and even laughed when our friend and my husband were being silly with her. So great. Glad to stop here each visit to Vegas. read more

Absolutely safe, it's kind of a private location on a small street. I've been there multiple times and it's nice with delicious food and attentive waitresses.
Is this near the Strip?
Maybe 10 minutes north of the strip. Definitely worth the trip. 👍🏾👍🏾

There a little more on the thick side in my opinion
