Was incredibly surprised with the high-quality instruction and high-level students. Completely blew my expectations away. Competition-quality instruction and techniques. Had some great rolls with lower and upper belts. Would 110% recommend anybody looking for BJJ classes in the area to go to Empire. Would give higher than a 5-star rating if possible. Very satisfied with my visit, will be back next time I'm in-town for business.

I can sum this business up in one word: McDojo. I'm honestly sad because I wanted to like this…read moreplace, not for myself but for my kids. Unfortunately instead of being a place of learning, like my husband experienced taking karate as a child here in Durant, it's nothing more than an expensive belt factory. I expected a monthly fee, not a problem. What is a problem is having children test for their next belt within two weeks ($60 per test) of even starting. They haven't even learned anything worth testing for in literally 3 hours of overall practice time. And then to be told to expect them to test every two months if not more..that's not how this works. There is no set time that they should be ready to test. If you go to a class and look around you will see tons of children running around with different colored belts. Very young children. And there are quite a few with black belts. If that isn't the biggest indication that this is a McDojo, I don't know what is. So basically unless you have money to blow so that your kids can run around and have fun, and a lot of closet space for their spiffy colorful belts, I'd skip this place.

Being a single mom of an extremely high maintenance child, I can only express that Karate has given him a different kind of confidence and a strong attitude all because of what goes on in a 45 min class that remains consistent.
