I can sum this business up in one word: McDojo. I'm honestly sad because I wanted to like this…read moreplace, not for myself but for my kids. Unfortunately instead of being a place of learning, like my husband experienced taking karate as a child here in Durant, it's nothing more than an expensive belt factory. I expected a monthly fee, not a problem. What is a problem is having children test for their next belt within two weeks ($60 per test) of even starting. They haven't even learned anything worth testing for in literally 3 hours of overall practice time. And then to be told to expect them to test every two months if not more..that's not how this works. There is no set time that they should be ready to test. If you go to a class and look around you will see tons of children running around with different colored belts. Very young children. And there are quite a few with black belts. If that isn't the biggest indication that this is a McDojo, I don't know what is. So basically unless you have money to blow so that your kids can run around and have fun, and a lot of closet space for their spiffy colorful belts, I'd skip this place.

I can't even begin to explain the positive impact the art of Jiu Jitsu and the Pit Viper family has had on my life. After every class, I leave exhausted, sweaty, and overjoyed with happiness. I'm not only intrigued with the new skills I am being taught but more importantly its the camaraderie and the support from my Sidewinder family. Everyone is there to improve their own skills, advance their belts, and some are even preparing for competitions. Not once has me, the new guy , felt left behind. She sweats, has bled (a little), and she has cried, but she keeps at it. She's the very definition of Perseverance, one of the tenants Coach Ryan teaches his students.
