Couple weeks back I take additional players, spend about $45 on ices leave the guy a 20% tip and buy a medium-size t-shirt because until then, had loved the place so much. T-shirt ended up being too small so I bring it back an ask to exchange for a large size. He says he doesn't have any large sizes, doesn't know when he will get any either. When I ask if I can just return (before I was going to order more shaved ice) he says 'no, can't do it.' Which is always more "No, won't do it." WARNING THIS PLACE WILL MAKE YOUR HEAD EXPLODE I don't know what to expect pulling up to Gringo's - we saw the review of someone who didn't pack their patience pants but I agree an hour for shaved ice? Hmmm...ANYWAY my partner & I said let's go check it out and I'm sure glad we did. We waited about 30 mins and I think there was five couples/families ahead of us and there was only one man working who I'm assuming is gringo himself . Out for a drive kinda place. Driven by here a few times, finally had a chance to stop. Looks like they have ice cream as well as shaved ice. Great place to get something to cool you down in this Texas heat. The guy was friendly and very quick. The prices were fairly reasonable. Lots of flavors to choose from. Just roadside parking, no restrooms, they did have a large umbrella for shade. Like I said, the guy was quick so you don't wait very long. I would give 10 stars out of 5 for this place. We craved shaved ice in this 106 degree weather while we were driving back to Houston and stopped by this place. Incredibly impressed that every single detail went to play in this shaved ice place. The menu, the setup, just absolutely everything. Awesome prices, incredibly amazing service and the shaved ice we were IMPRESSED. The whip cream and vanilla bean ice cream were TOP NOTCH. I absolutely recommend. I brought my family here on a Saturday, end of day. The goal was to get a snow cone and go to the outlet mall. We were the last in line and 10-12 people ahead of us. It took well over an hour to get the snow cones. We only stayed because we live in SA. The guys wife was walking around trying to calm people down. The guy behind the counter was stressed out. All the flavors I wanted were sold out. There wasn't any signs to indicate what flavors were available. After waiting so long it was disappointing. I wanted to mix 2 flavors (cherry/pickle). The guy refused and gave his opinion instead. I just don't understand why this guy was so mad about it when its my money purchasing his product. This was my first time stopping by. I wasn't sure what to get so I grabbed a key lime popsicle and a peaches and cream one. The taste was great on both but the peaches and cream one had ground up pits in it. I would recommend biting down with caution with that one!!! The key lime pie was my favorite of the two. My hubs also got a sugar free snow cone but it was just okay. I'll definitely go back and try something else but I'll need to see what others are saying what to eat for a better idea. read more

Best snow cone spot in San Marcos! The detour is worth the drive and really is hardly out of the way. I have not found another spot in town that offers NATURAL fruit flavors with no high fructose corn syrup for the type of prices that haven't been around since 2009. Stopped here after a smokin' hot day of baseball at the Zorn Fields. Only open on Friday-Sunday starting at 2:00 but this place has the best, most refreshing shaved ice I have ever had. No Joke. Sorry but I had to edit my review. I originally reviewed Gringo's Shaved Ice last week and gave it five stars. I'll leave that review at the bottom of my edited comments. I was looking forward to coming back to Gringo's Shave Ice frequently, but now I doubt if I'll go out of my way again. Today I stopped by to get a shaved ice and another car with a couple of young men stopped at the same time, which BTW was 3:45 p.m. The young men got out and went to the order window while I fiddled around in my car for a minute or two. I noticed that the men weren't being served and they rang a big cow bell next to the stand to attract someone's attention. But there was a sign in the window that had a clock indicating that someone would be back to the Shaved Ice Stand at 4:00 p.m. I really hate it when small businesses post their hours of operation and then decide that they don't need to be available during those hours. I try to support local small business but it's very frustrating when its 100+ degrees outside, I drove from Seguin, and if I want a shaved ice I'll have to wait 15 minutes (if they return on time). I don't have confidence anymore that this business will be open when they say they will so I'll return here only if I'm in the neighborhood. Today I didn't wait and neither did the young men. Soooooo yummy!!! I'm so glad I looked to my left and saw this place. I made my husband pull the car around cause it looked like the kind of place I like and it was hot outside. This place, Gringo Shaved Ice, had the best ever shaved ice and tons of flavor selections. I got the tutti fruitti, my husband got the peaches and cream, shaved ice. Both were phenomenal. The ice was completely saturated with flavor but not messy and liquidy. The ice was the finest shave I've ever had. Soooooo delicious. Such a cute little shaved ice place in Geronimo! They do get a little busy, but they keep you updated and get your order out as soon a possible. My favorite thing is that the flavors don't taste like the overly sweetened, super cheap tasting shaved ice you get mostly places. These had a good favor and didn't taste like medicine or just ice.
