Good authentic food atmospheres great staff is good and one of our favorite places to eat

The family goes here all the time, and every time the food is outstanding. Every time we go it is super busy, but the staff does a good job keeping the waiting times down. Two cons about Gringos. The parking lot is really cluttered and hard to find spots. The noise level in the restaurant is always very loud. This is like, the "bestest" place for that yen for Mexican food. It was once an old residence and the ambience is excellent. The service is exceptional and the food is awesome. It was where my daughter had her rehearsal dinner before she was married four years ago. The parking can be somewhat challenging at times but they've recently graveled out more spaces in their grassy area to accommodate the constant crowds. There is never more than a 20 minute wait to be seated in their busiest times. You may see more than one server at your tables at various times, checking on you to see if you need anything or want refills. They help each other out. Even the bus boy will bring you more chips if you are out. The margaritas are so delicious. Try it. You'll love it. read more

Been here twice for lunch. Both times with the same crowd. First time was great food and great service. We were there last Wednesday and our waiter was rude. So rude that afterwards our discussion consisted of us asking ourselves if the food was worth coming back for. One person with us had orders extra cheese on her meal. When she asked about it, he went to the kitchen and brought back a bowl of cheese and poured it on her food while she was eating! I couldn't believe it. She asked why he did that and he replied, "you wanted your cheese. " He did this with such a dramatic swooped, I was shocked! If it hadn't been for that, they definitely would rate a lot higher. Should she have complained, probably. But honestly, we all couldn't believe it! read more

Gringos has its pros and cons. Pros, there fajita nachos are to die for. Steak tacos are great too. We've tried a few other dishes but they were disgusting and cold. (Speedy and Chile reloeno) Cons-- we go here several times a week because it is so close to our house and the service is always horrible. Literally don't think we've ever had great customer service which is huge to me. I served for 7 years and I know the job and what to expect. read more

Worst experience we've had in a long time..... Had about 1.5 hours to kill before a band concert with the kids. Went to get some food and a drink. To start, the waiter hounded is about ordering... what's wrong with sitting with a beverage and appetizer, chatting and relaxing? Well, apparently that's not ok. Even when we said we'd ask for him when we were ready, he came back 5 min later. Annoying. So. We ordered............. Then he disappears..... 20 min? Food gets delivered meantime. Husbands drink is empty. No waiter. My tacos are COLD!!! Served to me cold. Seriously.... we had to flag another waiter to address this... meanwhile more time... 10 more min. Waiter finally shows up offering to refill our empty drinks. Husband asks about my order.. (3 tacos... seriously...how long can this take??) "yeah yeah, it's coming..." He brought our drinks. Then a couple min later my tacos. To which he just drops it in front of me.. no apologies. Nothing. 10 min later he brings the check. That's it. And no comp on my screwed up order!!! No thank you. Sorry, nothing.... I can promise you, my family and I will never spend our time or money there again. And I will share this story time and time again. read more

Gringos USED TO BE the best place in town, not anymore! The last several visits were below subpar. The service was horrendously slow and inattentive. There were so many flies buzzing around (indoors) that we literally took ONE bite of food and left. Once regular customers we will not return. read more

My wife and I had been here several times and always had great service and good food. We went for a late lunch yesterday. Had to wait for about 5 minutes to be seated because there was no one in the front of the house. When we were finally seated the waitress came to take our order and bring our drinks and then disappeared. We literally never saw her again. Our food was brought out by another waiter and then we were ignored. Drinks were never refilled and our check never came. Had to go to the girl running the register and tell her what we had so she could ring us up. I don't know if there's new ownership, but we won't be going back. read more

I've been here twice now. They probably have the best Mexican food in Jefferson. Started with the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is homemade and delicious. Had the Chorizo and cheese dip. Yummy cheesy goodness. Right mix of cheese to spicy Mexican chorizo. Everyone at the table seemed to enjoy it as much as we did! For an entree I had the Pollo Loco, With refried beans and red rice with salsa. Huge portion of food! I wasn't that hungry so I had figured I was ordering light, Ha that was a mistake. Seems like all the portions are Huge. The Chicken had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. The S/0 Had some Shrimp dish with avocados and tomatoes. I forgot the Latin name for it, but I tried a shrimp and some Veg off of hers and it was also perfect. Out of the 6 adults at our table everyone seemed to love their meal. The decor is standard Mexican restaurant for Gringos, The wait staff is fast and courteous. The only downside for us and it wasn't really the restaurants fault was the lack of a liquor license. last time we were there they made excellent margarita's, we went back hoping to have some again but it seemed like GA. held up their liquor license for one reason or another so they weren't able to serve ANY alcoholic beverages. Like I said, it won't keep me from going back...But I do miss the margarita's. read more

This used to be our GOTO place for Mexican food in Jefferson. However our last 4 visits have been terrible and seems the restaurant is going down hill. I keep a wanted to give them the benefit of a doubt again but again disappointed. Last night we ordered to go, when I got home they left out half our food. We ordered two cheese dips. One with jalapeños and one with out. They didn't add jalapeños in the second one and both dips were almost solid so I had to put them in the microwave. I was missing 4 tacos which were for my kids so they had to settle for something else since the restaurant is a little ways from my house. When I arrived the man behind the counter was somewhat rude to me like he didn't care to be there. Ugh I really wish they would get their act together and be the restaurant it was 3 years ago. One star for service, waitress was polite and attentive. Food was not very good though. Everything was bland and tasted prepackaged/store bought. There was supposed to be karaoke but there was none and they seemed quite unorganized about it, sounds like same deal for Saturday night live music. Good atmosphere for hanging out for drinks. This place is usually covered up with customers on weekends. We decided to go around 4:00 on a Saturday. It was not yet crowded. The wait staff was efficient but not very friendly. First time here, it was pretty busy so we sat outside which was fine. Sat down and it took like 10 mins for a waitress ti come over. But after that she was really good. My wife and I have been going out to eat Mexican food now for 8 years in the Jefferson area every Wednesday nite. We were told about Gringo's and always went to the other one next to the High School because the service was always good and consistent. We tried Gringo's and thought the food was great but the level of service was horrible. Every time you go into the restaurant the staff was more concerned about hanging out at the table close the hostess stand or their eyes were glued to their cell phone and not customer service. Well I was told they had a change in the management team and things were different so we decided to give them another try and WOW! the service was a 100% different. We have a ton of Mexican restaurants in Jefferson and the one thing we lacked was a place to get good food and consistent service. Well I have to say Gringo's covers both areas. We really love Gringo's. I have lived in Jefferson for 30 years and currently we have 4 Mexican restaurants in our little town. The only one we visit is Gringo's. The food is consistently fresh, well made and delicious. They have staying power too as they have remained consistent for over 2 years now. The staff is friendly and constantly check for needs. I usually get the Flauta's or the Nachos supreme But only a half order because they are huge! Hubby gets a combo or the Fajitas and he raves about the black beans. The chips are always warm and fresh and the cheese dip is the best! Another Bonus the lunch menu is available Mon - Sat! BTW for To Go orders you ALWAYS get a bag of chips and salsa. What a treat! We were a ways from home on business and just looking for a quick lunch and found Gringo's by accident, and we're so happy we did! My wife and I both ordered the Steak Rancheros. The steak was tender and well prepared and the sauce was great. Service was fast and wonderful. We don't get out this way often but when we do we'll be stopping at Gringo's every time! read more

We have eaten here twice in the past 6 months and have not been disappointed either time. There is a local flea market nearby that we usually stop in to pick up household items, and going by Gringo's for authentic Mexican fits the bill before going home. The restaurant itself is an older home that has been renovated to generous seating and sports viewing when we have been there on weekends. The staff is very attentive and focused on your having a pleasant dining experience. Salsa and chips are so good along with the cheese dip. The portions are big, the size suitable for sharing or taking home a box of tasty leftovers. We plan on stopping by Gringo's whenever we are in the Jefferson, Georgia area. read more

I must say this place is the best kept secret in Jefferson, and for that matter Jackson County. I make it a point to drive to this location even though I live currently almost an hour away. I moved to the South just before the 96' Olympics from the West side of the U.S. and was so surprised how many Mexican restaurants have adapted there menus to be more Americanized vs. real honest authentic Mexican dishes. I do not know how long they have been at this location; but I`m truly glad I listened to my stomach and dropped in spontaneously. Its about time I found what I have been missing for years and years... In a nutshell: True and honest family style Mexican cooking from a staff of people who take absolute pride in what they do. Service is provided with a genuine smile, Food is authentic and completely delicious, and they make one heck of a Margarita. I`m a dedicated fan to Gringos and have been back well over 10 times since I found them in April 2015' and will be heading that way for another plate of complete contentment.
