Oh - I happened to stumble into this place in Winchester. The owner invited me in and I bought 3 and ate them and bought 12 to take home. My goodness - here are my thoughts ... this place will take off. 1. The empanadas are PACKED with the goody fillings : either beef, brisket, mushroom, chicken or cheese. 2. They are not fried - no greasy stuff 3. Lots of flavor - not overwhelming - just right 4. Menu is very simple 5. Price is very reasonable 6. The dough is just right - not thick and not thin 7. They also have the empanada desert - filled with mozzarella cheese and topped with exotic fruit purée - guava etc 8. The food is delicious. 5 stars there! We drive over an hour to get frozen empanadas to enjoy later. Have been multiple times and always appreciate the ability to grab and go. This last time we went, we were the only ones there (it was a very slow day). The gentleman at the counter had to have us remind him of our order twice. He then left the shop partway through putting our order together, leaving the store wearing food gloves and returning back to finish our order, but didn't change his gloves. We didn't check our order before leaving, just wanting to get out after waiting 20 minutes for an uncooked to-go order, and when we got home, saw that we were short two empanadas. Brand new place in the walking mall of downtown Winchester! I stopped in for just a snack so this will just be an initial review but it seems like this little empanada shop has great potential. I ordered the caprese empanada. It's baked and not fried which I prefer and they fill it pretty well, there was a lot of cheese in mine. I would have liked more tomatoes in it but overall i was very happy with the quality of the dough and flavor. I was also given a little container of chimichurri sauce and it was sooo good. I would recommend getting that with nearly anything they have, it's wonderful. It was a snack stop today but I'm already contemplating what my next full order there will be. read more

I love that Purcellville has another more interesting dining option. We did a sampling of a couple different empanadas each having been told by our daughter that three was probably the upper limit on empanadas at a sitting. The brisket was spicy and delicious, the Argentinian (which is supposed to be the most traditionally authentic, I think) was also delicious. We traded empanadas around, so we could sample more. I liked the dessert empanadas, and might like them more if they tried using different cheeses (yes, they use mozzarella cheese in the apple and caramel empanadas). I don't know if mozzarella is traditionally used, but I seem to remember sweet cheese pastries from the diner across from White Palace Restaurant that were OUTSTANDING! I think Gringo Gordos is a good addition to the Purcellville dining scene, fairly reasonably priced, service is friendly and the empanadas are something tasty and new. read more

Not the best empanadas I've had but pretty darn good. I would definitely go back. I had an Argentinian beef and a spicy beef one. Shared both with my two kids and they both liked them. They sell them individually as well as by the dozen. They also deliver in Winchester. I guess my only complaint is I usually like to have some kind of side if I'm eating a meal and they only have empanadas. That said, if you're downtown and want a good snack but not a full meal this is a great option. Can't wait to try the other flavors. read more
