They are no longer in business. As the only Argentine in the Winchester area I have been missing them. They do have a branch in Purcellville that is still open but the two branches in Winchester are no longer in business. I hope they come back. They have very good empanadas. Well, my mother makes better ones, but unfortunalely she passed away 4 years ago (at age 102). read more

I'm not sure what this place is. We got the pepperoni pizza "flavor" bc the littles wanted something- and it tasted good, but I wouldn't call it an empanada. Also the dough is too thick to be an empanada. Sorry, but these aren't empanadas. read more

Amazing service. He made me some to take home and freeze for quick dinners! Will definitely be ordering again. read more

We then started walking and noticed that she worked at this place gringo Gordo and we decided to go in and try some of their empanadas and we are so glad we did. The empanadas were delicious. Service was excellent. The black bean and corn with the chipotle ranch was delicious. The crust was a little tough, but I'm sure that's to be expected for empanadas I wish I had another one or two for today. The apple was good, but I'm not sure I'll order it again. I think I'll opt for a 2nd bean/corn instead or try another savory option . read more

Empanadas are a woefully neglected method of eating in America and after going to this establishment, I now want to keep eating more! It's essentially a hot pocket on steroids. You name it, it goes in there. Meat, cheese, apples, you name it, it works. I haven't had the juice here but I'm sure if its anything like the empanadas here, its excellent. The man who work here is very friendly and service is fast. read more

Don't bother with any other restaurant on the mall, just come here and eat all the empanadas! For real. The Argentinian was the best I've had in the states. Don't leave without trying the chimichurri to go with your empanadas! Seriously, the best chimichurri I've ever had. Wash it down with passion fruit juice! read more

Oh - I happened to stumble into this place in Winchester. The owner invited me in and I bought 3 and ate them and bought 12 to take home. My goodness - here are my thoughts ... this place will take off. 1. The empanadas are PACKED with the goody fillings : either beef, brisket, mushroom, chicken or cheese. 2. They are not fried - no greasy stuff 3. Lots of flavor - not overwhelming - just right 4. Menu is very simple 5. Price is very reasonable 6. The dough is just right - not thick and not thin 7. They also have the empanada desert - filled with mozzarella cheese and topped with exotic fruit purée - guava etc 8. The owner is awesome - he even has an app for his shop "gringo gordo" I walked out with a dozen to take home to put in oven 10 minutes. Highly recommended!!! Must try. read more

Visiting Winchester for the first time and happened to pass by this place. As someone who is Latin and lived in Miami for many years, I am always on the lookout for South American flavors and this place didn't disappoint. Some of the most delicious empanadas I have ever had, and that's really saying something. Also get the chimichurri sauce along with your empanadas, absolutely amazing!!!! Will be back every time we come back to this town. Just come here, that's all I can say!!! read more

Forget your original plans for lunch or dinner and go straight to Gringo Gordo. Go, run, well, drive to the walking mall, then run to the shop. Holy cow, these empanadas are amazing and I'm a snob. The meat options are perfectly balanced, seasoned well, and when you top them off with chimichurri or chipotle you're gonna wonder why it took you so long to try this place out. The pepperoni. Let's talk about the fact that in West Virginia the pepperoni roll is king. Well, I just met it's equal and it's their pepperoni empanada. If you're in the panhandle get over the border, brave 81, dodge potholes on 11, and sit patiently on 7 and come try this amazing alternative to the pepperoni roll. Vegetarian you say? Well they got options! My favorites you ask? The black beans and corn, the mushrooms and kale, the carmelized onion and cheese!! No meat, no problem here, they've got you covered! But what about dessert? Or drinks? They've got it all!!! You're gonna wonder how you ever lived without this place. You're gonna wanna make an album on Facebook just to show your friends how beautiful the empanadas are. You're gonna actually concern loved ones that you may, in fact, be turning into an empanada! Let's face it, you'll be the Gringo Gordo when you leave here after a dozen of these golden, delicious pieces of art. So yea, forget running back to your car, it'll be more of a waddle. But oh so worth it! read more

The food is delicious. 5 stars there! We drive over an hour to get frozen empanadas to enjoy later. Have been multiple times and always appreciate the ability to grab and go. This last time we went, we were the only ones there (it was a very slow day). The gentleman at the counter had to have us remind him of our order twice. He then left the shop partway through putting our order together, leaving the store wearing food gloves and returning back to finish our order, but didn't change his gloves. We didn't check our order before leaving, just wanting to get out after waiting 20 minutes for an uncooked to-go order, and when we got home, saw that we were short two empanadas. Likely won't be going again after this last experience. read more

Each empanada is delicious and unique in its own. Definitely good for a quick bite or for a snack don't forget to get the chimichurri or chipotle mayo to dip the empanadas. First time visit and first time ever having empanadas. They set me up with the three most popular. No brewed ice tea but they do have bottled unsweetened tea. Apple Pay accepted. Sat outside and tried each one. Great crust and good flavor but since these are my first I don't have anything to compare them to. Gentleman behind the counter was friendly and professional. I went back inside to let him know what I thought. None of the sauces did anything for me as the empanadas themselves were flavorful. Looking forward to going back and trying some others. read more

Best empanadas in Winchester, you don't want to miss it! Great service and great food.

Great food served lovingly by passionate-for- great -food people. My only comment is that while I love this place and the food- it's a little weird they charge for the sauces. I'd also like to see an expanded menu with idk a few more choices than just empanadas. Don't get me wrong - I love the place. I'd also recommend serving better drinks offers than coke in plastic bottles. read more

Had to try them... Bought a dozen all different variety.. Great flavor on each Empanada. My daughter liked the Ham and Cheese. I prefer the chicken and spicy beef is my wife favorite... Great food at a extremely reasonable price. Also... these are baked... Stayed hot all the way home to Stephens City. I'll be back read more

OMG these are so good. Just like the ones I loved in South America. I'm gluten-free but bought some to take to a friend cuz I could tell they are the real deal. Then I got 1/2 block away & had to go back to try my own. It was so worth the gluten splurge even tho it's been years since I ate any! I met Mike, the owner, and his maitre d (darling Irish Setter) and they're terrific. Will be back! read more

Finally got to go check this place out for lunch today. I'm a bit of an empanada snob being Latina and O M G these were amazing. Every one I tried was scrumptious. Brisket, caprese, spicy beef, cheese and corn. All delicious. They serve them, hot, fresh and quickly! read more

Seriously delicious and appreciated the large vegetarian selection. Perfect for eating while walking around downtown.

Really good empanadas at a very reasonable price point. Empanadas are very filled with the different flavors - no scrimping on fillings. Spicy beef and brisket were both delicious. Smoky chicken spicy and nice. read more

Brand new place in the walking mall of downtown Winchester! I stopped in for just a snack so this will just be an initial review but it seems like this little empanada shop has great potential. I ordered the caprese empanada. It's baked and not fried which I prefer and they fill it pretty well, there was a lot of cheese in mine. I would have liked more tomatoes in it but overall i was very happy with the quality of the dough and flavor. I was also given a little container of chimichurri sauce and it was sooo good. I would recommend getting that with nearly anything they have, it's wonderful. It was a snack stop today but I'm already contemplating what my next full order there will be. read more

My husband and I visited Virginia for the first time. We decided to eat out last meal at the empanada shop before heading back home. The staff and food left a wonderful impression on us. We even took some empanadas with us for our trip home. My favorite was the spicy beef. I even liked the vegetarian ones! They have tons of flavor. The owner let me try some of the guava juice and it was delicious. It paired well with the meal. I appreciate the authentic and special cuisine that was offered! Thank you! read more

These are amazing empanadas! They are hot and fresh. Our favorites are the spicy beef and the brisket. We will be stopping in a lot.

Not the best empanadas I've had but pretty darn good. I would definitely go back. I had an Argentinian beef and a spicy beef one. Shared both with my two kids and they both liked them. They sell them individually as well as by the dozen. They also deliver in Winchester. I guess my only complaint is I usually like to have some kind of side if I'm eating a meal and they only have empanadas. That said, if you're downtown and want a good snack but not a full meal this is a great option. Can't wait to try the other flavors. read more
