This branch of one of my favourite coffee haunts is a simple, quaint 'cabin' set slightly back from the Manchester Cathedral end of Deansgate. It's very small, with just a few comfy seats and primarily caters to those grabbing a take-out coffee but that doesn't take away from the fact that the coffee at Grindsmiths is excellent.

A great little pop up coffee shop, only a few minutes walk from the centre and in a great location. It sits inside a revamped square just next to the river, far enough from the city hussel and bussel to feel like a real escape. That and you get your own privet water feature - also a win and makes for a good few. So onto the main reason I'm here, coffee. In simple terms, very nice! They have brought in some great rosters and I am hoping that they will keep a ration of different ones to try. They place is very small but works with the space it has very well, as it coffee 'bar' goes it is very well stocked - offering all the excepted espresso drinks they all will do you a porover and syphon coffee. Which makes your coffee look like it being made by a mad scientist! Mahahahaha! There is a nice little seating area but this place really stands out when the sun is out - with its ample outside seating. So this place is a massive +1 to Manchester coffee options (well, Salford technical, it all good)

This is one of the coolest cafes I have been without a doubt. The owner is passionate about coffee and explained to me all the different brewing methods including V60 and Syphon(bunsen burner). I was greeted with a warm and welcoming smile just like the ambience of this small little quirky cafe. The price their charging you for a cup of coffee questions big corporate chain such as Starbucks, let alone the taste. Grindsmith has an interesting story to tell and I am going to be a regular here. The coffee sourced here have been roasted all over England! Yay for local businesses!

It's a tiny little coffee house but caffeine & co has proven that can still thrive in MCR. I'll be interested to see what roasters they regularly stock but right now the stuff from Notes is pretty tasty. It might not look like much yet but once the warmer weather hits this place is going to be a real hotspot!

First visit to Grindsmith and this coffee didn't fail to impress me.

The first time I saw Grindsmtih was the mobile unit inside a space within Greater Northern Warehouse on Deangate when I was running. I have an intuition on what I would like on the indie coffee shops. So I felt this place is something I would like to come back and try. I searched online for their opening time to arrange a visit. I saw their success on kickstarter and a few very positive reviews. It's an independent coffee pod in the Manchester City Centre just behind Manchester Cathedral and the Triangle Square. The two founders are passionate about providing the perfect coffee in Manchester. It sounds very intriguing and I can't wait to pay a visit to see it myself. I paid my first visit on a Sunday afternoon. This place is just off Deansgate, located on the north bank of River Irwell. There were fountain installations outside of Grindsmith coffee pod. It's nice to sit outside sipping coffee while listening to the water when the sun is out. For me, I would prefer to sit inside the coffee pod in a rainy day (sounds more likely in Manchester) to smell and just watch the coffee making. They have normal classic coffee menus. There are also brew methodologies for the coffee like Syphon and V60. With all the brewing gears and funky light bulbs installed inside the coffee pod, this place is more like a science laboratory, only with pleasant smell. It's a tidy place inside and only 8 seats maximum with two coffee tables. Every cup of coffee cost around a few minutes but the wait will be paid back in the taste of the coffee. The one I had was a pot of black coffee brewed in V60 by using the Acaia Pearl Scale and bottled Buxton Mineral water. The barista served my coffee with a glass of mineral water on a funky Grindsmith board. It tastes brilliant and the whole experience is very pleasant. The barista behind the brew bar is extremely friendly. He greets every customer with a big smile and informs that the brew time would be a few minutes in advance. They have cakes and biscuits on the food side at the moment. Since then, I had been twice with friends and got one of the loyal tokens they designed for their customers. I love the idea of this loyal token and the design of this little thing. It's my way to show a little support to people who make Manchester more lovely and beautiful. Each wooden engraved loyal token graded 1, 2&3 (which enables 10P, 20P &30P off your order and valid until the end of this year). It cost £5, £10&£15. It also can be as a great souvenir since the design of the token are really special. I really hope they do well since it's a great addition to the Manchester Indie Coffee Shops. It has a unique style with unbeatable quality in the coffee. I heard they started serving wine and beers and open late in Thursday night. Do pop in and have a nice coffee.

A morning cafe and mini treat

Always love this mini cafe , the difference between this one and the one in deansgate is that the one here is more cozy and local vibe. Good for being alone or for a re-focus/ re-energize.

Went here whilst me and friends waited for the Escape Room over the road to open up. It was a drab and rainy morning and it was nice to find an inviting cabin to have coffee in. The friendly and knowledgeable barista was chatty and the atmosphere was quaint and warm, whilst the flat white I had was done well. Excellent place.

    Syphon coffee-try it!!!

I asked for a cold Vietnamese coffee (not sure if they didn't hear) but got a hot one instead. I didn't mind it as the weather was being indecisive that day anyway and would be too cold to be holding my cold drink outside. The coffee itself was pretty good considering I haven't had decent coffee in awhile. It wasn't overly sweet either which was what I was worried about at first. I'll try to come back and try their food next time.

I like the decor. It's perfect to catch up with friends or coworkers, and it would be also be an enjoyable co-working space. We saw plenty of people toiling away on their laptops. Unfortunately, one little gripe though, all of the booths only had one person, camped out with their laptop, so those people should be more mindful to take a smaller table if they're going to work for several hours. I like the various seating options including big tables, small tables, comfy sofa chairs, and counter seating. The menu offers lots of options too including chai lattes which seem less common in the UK, so that was a nice surprise. Overall, it's a cool spot. I'd come again.

Hello new favourite bar! So good that we went twice in 2 days for a nightcap (well several…read morenightcaps) after staying next door at the awesome Hotel Gotham! The way I'd describe this is a modern take on a beer hall with an upmarket beer festival vibe - it's great that you can see all the barrels behind the bar - nicely vaulted inside glass giving it a great unique style. On top of this there's a slight nod to Berlin minimalism whilst also having room for loads of standing punters and comfy booths if you want to take a load off. The beer on draft selection is amazing (at least 20) with loads of bottles too - Odell 5 barrel pale was lovely as were the stouts and porter. Raspberry sour was definitely an acquired taste but nice to try! Even the non beer drinkers in our group loved it - quaffing g+t's like they were going out of fashion. This place has the right vibe to appeal to everyone - very well done! Can't wait to go back!!

So a bar opened by near King Street!! ..time to sell the family silver eh? Well, no. Beer on draught is always cheaper than bottles but the prices in Cafe Beermoth are good generally, one half of a 7% stout was 2.20 - nice. They also break the mould slightly with their selection of beer; it's not the predictable MCR craft board I'm used to but rather a nice mix or UK/non-UK and very local beers on tap - as well as some fine coffee and pastries in the morn! They didn't just stick a load of pales on that will go down by the gallon, they stocked interesting and challenging beer on their opening weekend - sticking to their guns. Well, what can I say? It's got good beer, comfy stalls, and a lovely bar - go drink!

Fig + Sparrow - Three weeks of the only toilet in the venue being broken. Oscar Wilde couldn't describe the stench, either.

5 years have passed since I was last here.. Unfortunately time has not served this place well…read more Deciding to meet up before an event for some breccy I was not quite prepared for the upcoming events. The decor is still quite homely however the seating is still very close, to a point where my friend could not even sit opposite me due to the narrow gap between the chair and table. Embarrassment set aside I went to grab some menus to find there was none. I was informed by a waitress that I had to read off the wall..so for ease I took several pictures of the menu to enable my friend to browse with ease. The menu was limited, I mean when I think of breccy I imagine eggs to be present at the very least. But no this was eggless, baconless with just options of toast, avocado, and nothing inspiring really..also there were NO PRICES. Walking up to the till I was acknowledged by a grumpy guy. Perhaps he needed a Smile latte. Anyway I ordered a cold brew along with the avocado on toast, paying extra for some additional smoked salmon. After choosing what fresh bread I wanted, he slapped me with a £12 bill.. I was gobsmacked.. Returning to my seat I reassured myself " This is going to be the best avocado on toast ever". So the cold brew arrived with a fresh piece of orange floating in it. It was pleasing to note that the brew making is still top notch. Now the food itself.. this arrived on two pieces of toast, half a pear sliced on each piece with a sliver of smoked salmon. This was dressed with a light mixture of chili and lemon. My friends beans and toast was deconstructed, she had to make it up herself...this was I think £6-8 ...for beans on toast.. I found my victuals tasty enough but could not justify the price, £5.99 would have been more realistic at best. Anyway overall the service was poor, the lack of important details such as no physical menus, napkins, prices, inquiries if the food was okay and lack of logical seating. I might pop in for a coffee to take away but this I doubt.

It has a comforting well maintained ambience (even the basement loo!) and the staff are extremely friendly. I really like the broad wooden table in the middle of the coffee area, feels calming and comfortable to sit at! I tried the Marrakesh loose leaf mint tea which was very nice although not as good a fresh mint tea - when I return next I'll try the peppermint instead. They have some lunch in a jar meals which is a fun concept although I'm not sure the actual contents would be that exciting. But it's a nice touch, also like the jugs of water with orange slices and sugar syrup. Shops like this which contain loads of really overpriced unnecessary home items I normally just dismiss as selling tat but for some reason the stuff here entranced me, especially cushions featuring a dog saying "Bonjour" /holding a French flag in its mouth (srsly I don't know why I found this so cute) and a wire basket for £18 which I for some reason felt I really need in my life. My friend felt the same about a set of colourful plastic spoons...I don't what this place does to you but I enjoyed it!
