Continuing through American established restaurants by state, for New York, Grimaldi's Pizzeria. When I lived in AZ, I had Grimaldi's a few times and thought their pizza was great. I moved away to the DC area in 2011, but visited my parents in general around Christmastime. Then, in late January-early February 2021, I helped my parents move across the US to where they live now in Lancaster, PA, only about 100 miles drive instead of a long flight across the US. My dad let me have his birthday free Grimaldi's pizza since they were busy with moving stuff. I drove from my parents far west valley home on the last day they were there for an early dinner on that warm Thursday, January 28, 2021. They had plenty of outside seating, which I opted for. I feel like the inside was closed for dine-in because of Covid, but I was also trying to be cautious as I didn't want to catch Covid while driving my parents across the US. Thankfully, it was a beautiful Sunny & 75 F with calm winds. On that note, on that Sunday 4 days earlier when I left DC, I ate outside before getting to DCA airport (even I think having the option to eat inside) with a cold 38 F high, but I was being super careful before my trip. The server was friendly & efficient. I got a pizza with sausage. It was a thin NY style pizza, which was delicious, although I stopped eating pork later in 2021. But there are a wide variety of toppings, and I would have found something else good that would've worked. Additionally, I opted to buy dessert to be nice; some Oreo cake, which was solid. Our first time at Grimaldi's and it was so fun and yummy! We were in the mood for a white pizza. I signed up for their rewards program on the app. We received a free appetizer or salad with our meal. We ordered their Ceasar salad it was great! Exactly what you want in a Ceasar salad and a great size. Our white pizza was perfection. Hand tossed, thin, crispy crust. Creamy ricotta. We douse ours in red chili flakes Sooooo good! Crisp, Icy Cold beer Dos Equis Lager Service was great. Attentive and helpful. We were seated pretty quickly and we noticed our chairs had some cream sauce on them before we sat down, ( thank goodness ) We let the waitress know and she quickly cleaned them for us and apologized. Things happen and it really was no big deal. Taken care of Wolf immediately. Love how it looks inside. Lots of Old New York pictures and memorabilia. We are big Grimaldi's fans, but haven't been able to visit a location in quite a while, as we always seem to show up during their oven stoking hours. That's basically a daily period where they clean their coal ovens and can't sell pizza. Womp womp. Not today though! We were seated quickly and given a seat right near the oven, so we got to watch the pizzas being whipped up. We started our meal with the strawberry spinach salad. It was really good and had a nice dressing on it. Decidedly the perfect salad for summer. For our pizza, we had the Brooklyn Bridge with extra cheese. Despite having visited Grimaldi's many times in the past, I had never tried this pizza. I loved it! I would consider the extra cheese to be imperative on any pizza here as they can be kind of skimpy on the cheese. read more

What makes Grimaldi's amazing? Delightful service and a killer coal fired crust. Try the Peach Sangria and the Peachy Spritzer. The beverages were so balanced and was a great way to start the meal. The Duo: 2 meats + 2 sauces = 4ntastic pizza!!! Pepperoni and char cup sausage (spicy and delicious) plus the pesto and red sauce. We also ordered a white pizza with extra garlic, ham and mushrooms. The ambiance of the restaurant was overall really nice, it had this nice atmosphere and the music selection was on point. And the service was not where it should be. Thekey issue was that the restaurant was practically unoccupied and we still waited 40+ minutes for 2 pizzas. We sat 40 minutes waiting at the bar undisturbed before the moment we got our food were moved elsewhere only for the pizza to be not worth the 40+ minute wait. My husband and I had ordered takeout since it was a nice day outside and we located a seat in area in the middle section so we was able to enjoy our pizza with the beautiful weather. We placed our order via the Uber app, and our order was ready in less than an hour. The hostesses was very kind and friendly, and we were able to get a plate, napkins, Parmesan cheese and red peppers for her to go order as well with napkins. Overall, our pizza was very good. What a great experience! Waitstaff were friendly and attentive. Food and cocktails were delicious as well. We ordered a 1/2 and 1/2 pizza with the Quattro Formaggi and Brooklyn Bridge. I have to say the Quattro was my favorite. It had such a good combo of cheeses, and you could taste the garlic. The Brooklyn was good, but I might have opted to try The Don next time. The Brooklyn was almost a little soggy. The Sicilian Sunshine Sprits was refreshing and balanced well. Not too sweet or too tart. I also enjoyed the basil mojito. The brick oven cooked crust was a favorite for both of us. It did take a little longer for them to cook so you may want an appetizer if you're super hungry, but the wait was worth it. We also had the dessert trio which didn't disappoint. The tiramisu was my favorite, but I will always opt for a tiramisu if I think it's a restaurant that will do it right. I will say the noise level is fairly high. I also found due to the noise, some folks seemed to yell louder across their table, which didn't help. I did wonder if maybe the tin ceilings cause sound to not absorb as well, but I am no engineer. On a day where the temperature allows, I probably would opt to sit outside, but it may not bother everyone. The day we went it as 111 still, so it wasn't comfortable outside long term. Did you guys know that an 18 inch pizza gives you more than double of what a 12 inch pizza? Using simple math, the area of a 12 inch pizza is approximately 113.1 square inches and the area of a 18 inch pizza is approximately 254.47 square inches. Know that the difference in price of an 18inch pizza and 12 inch pizza at Grimaldi's is $7. Most pizza places are priced this way. Thus, I took advantage of the sale by getting an 18 inch white pizza with mushrooms, pepperonis, and hot honey on the side. I was told I could skip the wait times by sitting at the bar as they serve all the food items there. Unfortunately, the service was still slow at the bar. The pizza itself was pretty average. I liked the pepperoni's but there wasn't too much toppings. Three-four slices is enough to get you full the pizza was cut into 8 big slices. I regret asking for the hot honey on the side. Pouring honey on the pizza made the pizza extremely sticky and unwieldy; it made me wonder if having it cooked with the pizza would be any better. read more

Grimaldi's at Park West is pretty solid if you're craving that classic coal fired brick-oven pizza, but be prepared to wait, especially on weekends or evenings. We showed up around 4:30 pm on a Monday without checking ahead, and the place didn't appear to be busy. The hostesses put us on the waitlist, and we ended up hanging out for about 20-25 minutes before getting seated. They have a decent bar area and some outdoor patio space, so it's not miserable, but it dragged on longer than expected for a casual pizza night. Once we finally sat down, though, the pizza made it worth it. We ordered 2 large sausage pizzas. The crust was thin, crispy, and perfectly charred from the coal oven, super authentic New York style vibes. The sauce had great flavor, cheese was fresh and stretchy, and the toppings weren't skimpy. Everything tasted super fresh, and the portions are generous. Service was friendly once we were in, and the atmosphere is cozy with that old-school pizzeria feel. Think NYC meets RatPack. The prices are reasonable for what you get. Would I go back? Yeah, the pizza is that good. But next time, I'll plan better to avoid the long wait or maybe do takeout. Visited Grimaldis while in Phoenix. Seems to be a popular restaurant. Total Bronx pizza vibes. Checkered linen ok tables. Dark wood furniture. Got the kitchen and oven in the middle. Bar on the side. Was nervous at first because they told me a table for 7 would be 1.5 hour wait. However, received a text that the table was ready within 15 min. We ordered 2 salads, 1 antipasto appetizer & 3 pizzas. Both salad bowls looked small at first, but fed all of us. The antipasto is not a salad. It's almost like a charcuterie board with slices of bread on the side. It was nice to try something new - the mozzarella slices and salami worked well together w the bread slices. The olives were fresh and savory. The pizza was large and not heavy. We had 2 pepperoni pizzas and the white pizza w/ added sausage and pepperoni. My fav was the white pizza. The garlic and pepper on the pizza was very balanced. Cons: We had a few problems with the bill but they were resolved in house. They also charge $1 per cup of ranch, which I thought was kind of steep. read more

Hi, I love Grimaldi's pizza. They have some of my favorite pizza anywhere. However, my experiences at this location have consistently been disappointing. Today, I ordered two pizzas and a salad to-go. I placed the order at 3:00 PM for pickup at 6:15 PM. When I arrived at 6:15, I was told it would be another 10 minutes. After waiting 15 minutes, I walked back up to the host stand for an update. The hosts seemed visibly annoyed that I was checking on an order that was already late. They again told me it was not ready, and seemed irritated when I asked how much longer it would be. About 10 minutes later, a manager came over and explained that they had given one of my pizzas to a large dine-in table, so they would remove it from my bill and remake it. I appreciate the discount, but it was extremely frustrating to hear that the pizza I had pre-ordered hours earlier and had already been waiting on was simply given away to another party. While waiting, I also noticed hosts taking selfies and using their phones behind the stand, which did not feel professional considering how backed up and disorganized things were. After another 15 minutes, they finally called my name, but only had the pizzas ready. When I asked about the salad, the host rolled her eyes and said it was coming. I'm not sure why my name was called before the order was actually complete, especially since I then had to continue standing at the host stand waiting even longer. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with this experience. I completely understand that restaurants get busy and that dine-in customers are important, but I placed my order well in advance for a 6:15 pickup and did not receive my full order until nearly 6:50 PM. From being seated it was just a bad experience overall, we did not even get a chance to try the food or take a sip of water. It was just as hot inside the building as it was outside. When we asked to switch to a booth for the sake of a child who struggles with high chairs the waitress looked immediately annoyed and declined. We frequent Grimaldi's at least once a month and never disappoints. It can take a little longer to get pizza when busy on Friday or Saturday during high peak dinner hours. We leave very satisfied with service and especially the pizza. Love the Don specialty pizza, and the cheesecake! (Cookies one) keep up the good food and service has been great. read more

The pizza I received dining in was so good. The pizza I ordered for pickup was trash. It was terrible. It barely had any toppings on it, was burnt, and very sloppily made. For the price of the pizza, I expect to see more than a small child's handful of sausage and cheese on the pizza. This pickup visit was only my 2nd time at this restaurant, same location. If I was leaving a review just for the food I'd definitely say 4/5, but the customer service and wait staff is so awful it hurts. We arrived early for lunch. While we were seated right away our server took quite a while to even come great us or take any drink orders. When he finally did we ordered what we thought was an antipasto salad. He just kept saying it's an appetizer with no explanation until I said what is the difference. It's bread lol no lettuce. My mistake for not reading more thoroughly. I just saw it was under salads etc. He was a bit condescending and we'd never been in before. We decided on another option which he said was similar to an antipasto salad but was not at all when arrived. It was lettuce, mushroom some olives and Italian dressing. Still good but not as described. We had also ordered a pizza. We waited why felt like forever before he came back and said our pizza still wasn't done and it would be at-least another 20 minutes before done. When it finally arrived it looked and tasted amazing. We were legit starving at that point. By the time we got our pizza and finished we'd been in the restaurant well over two hours. No apologies for the insane wait time of lunch on a not busy day or anything. We should have just left after siting for so long and then being told to wait even longer for it to come out. I really love their white pizza but Grimaldi's is pretty pricy for pizza. You pay between 2 and 5 dollars per topping so the cost can add up quick. We got two 16" pizzas with four toppings on one and two toppings on the other and the pizza alone cost us 76 bucks after tax. OUCH. I do enjoy the ambiance of the place and you can watch the guys toss the pizza dough which is fun, but last night we literally waited an entire hour for our pizza to come out. Not cool. We were told after half an hour that they were a bit backed up but we were never offered anything to compensate. No free drinks, no discount. The bartender was so rude. Her name is Lindsay. She did not smile once. She did not let us know what was out of stock after greeting us. And when we ordered a few items that were out of stock, she said quickly/rudely said they don't have them, and gave no other suggestion. She made us feel like we were irritating her just by being there at the bar. She only smiled and laughed with the other bartender working the well joking about nonsense. While leaning over just looking at him. She also did not pack our leftovers when a previous server had done so kindly in the past.
