It's a darn good burger…read more.. Finally got around to giving this one a go.. maybe my expectations were set high... have been looking fwd to Royales for awhile now. Planets got aligned today and reserved some space in the tum tum from lunch in Brighton... Royales is behind the Pantry and works well for the clientele that it attracts! Onto the burger... without taking it apart my first bite was as if it was the most beautiful thing in the world!! I devoured it. it was only until I was half way through that I remembered to take note of what was inside... nothing pretentious.. just a whole hearty "proper" burger with lettuce .. I noticed my grip as well.. substantial yet not fist size like fatbob's! "Milk" bun was nice. Not too heavy and complemented the fillings well. the patty although not as good as Laurie Dee's or Chew's, was significant and meaty enough for a thumbs up. like other reputable burgers the patty has granular bits of meat with some burnt bits. All in all ... awesome. WIR? most definitely! Is it the best?? hmm this I will leave to ur own judgement. We all have our favourites ... happy yelping y'all!!

I stopped in and ordered a spicy royale which has, in additional to cheese, regular veggies, and a royale sauce an additional jalapeno sauce. The burger was very good. Cooked well with a delightfully fluffy bun that never got soggy. It wasn't that spicy, but I did like the little bit of kick the spicy sauce gave. Their fries are also surprisingly good. In my experience, there are two kinds of fries or chips served in Melbourne/Victoria/Australia. One is what we in the US of A would call "steak fries." Basically thick cut potatoes that are, typically, under-cooked and soggy. They require huge amounts of Ketchup/mayo/HP Sauce to be edible and, really, why not just eat a baked potato? Many pubs, unfortunately, have these kinds of chips/fries. On the other side are Belgian style fries or classic french fries that are thinly cut and, at their best, double fried (in duck fat preferably) to cook the inside and then crisp the outside without over or under doing either part. Royale brothers had an intermediate fry/chip that was both on the large end (but not huge) and very crispy and well cooked. They were also seasoned well with a choice of a variety of dipping sauces. There is no indoor seating so you are eating outside or taking it home. For my purposes that is usually fine as Royale Brothers is located at an attractive end of Church street and it is nice to sit outside when it is not raining. Verdict: nothing to complain about and I will be returning. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is that the burger, while the best I have had here, did not blow me away. I will be going back and sampling some of their other options in the future, though and that may increase my score.

Here we are, 4 Americans living in Melbourne hiking together in the Dandenongs at Hamer Arboretum…read more What do 4 Americans do when together and hungry? Talk endlessly about foods that we miss in Australia. Ah, isn't this a beautiful tree? I miss breakfast burritos. Look at this view! Where can I get a good pizza? Do you think there are poisonous snakes here? Ah, I would kill for a decent burger! The standard for a good burger is quality meat, with a decent amount of fat, crisped up on a griddle, but not over-cooked to a hockey puck. There must be American cheese, melty, smooth, without much taste. Toppings must be complimentary to the meat - not a distraction. After our hike in the hinterlands, we were hungry from all this talk of food, but resigned to eat something half-way decent just to refuel after our not-so-gruelling walk. I did a quick search on Yelp and found a burger place in nearby Ferngully. There were no reviews, but there were pictures that had me exclaiming "Legit". The Man said, "no one says legit anymore." We drove as fast as we could to On It. After some explanations about the menu from the waiter, and specifically the smashed steak burger, we all ordered and waited patiently. In the meantime, super crispy onion rings showed up at the table with some super spicy sauce. We loved them, even if our mouths were on fire. Then the burgers came.... and we were all 4 very happy ex-pats. The burgers were nigh perfect. Ratios were just right, if a little heavy on the mayo. We left On It, impressed. As a further testament, I would probably even drive way out there to the hinterlands to have that burger again. I should probably work up an appetite first with a hike, just to be on the safe side.

We both ordered the 'Big Boy' burger with an added beef patty, and some chicken strips. The burgers are great value, with the 'Big Boy' only costing $9.90 for so many ingredients. We thought $4.00 was a little steep for an added patty, but understandable as the burgers were already so cheap. There are a few tables inside so after we ordered, we took a seat and waited. The staff there were really friendly and helpful, which was a huge positive. Shortly after sitting down, our chicken strips came. They were really hot and fresh. Then, our burgers came out next. They both looked amazing! The bun was nice and soft, which made the burger easier to eat. The beef patties were so tasty, and the slight bit of char grill just added even more flavour. The cheese was melted perfectly over the patties. One of the stand outs was the bacon. We couldn't get enough of it! The egg was a nice addition, as well as the tomato and lettuce. There was a really generous amount of sauce on the burgers too. Overall, we were extremely impressed with the quality of food and service from Simpsons Chips and Burgers. We look forward to going back in the near future!

Both were super tasty clean flavor with every nuance from the vegetables to the beef itself shining through. The fries could've been amazing if they didn't sit for that long but the seasoning carried this from cold to good.
