I had a session with Griggs and couldn't continue because it was impossible to set up billing with the insurance and him, I was never told that the initial session was going to be charged, I thought it was an exploratory call to see if we have a fit. and oh surprise, I got a letter from collections with a payment of triple of what he charges for the session. I had therapy with Dr. Griggs for the whole time I was going through a bitter divorce. He helped me a lot! I just didn't put 5 starts because I personally prefer in person sessions, and often internet and ( or) technical problems could interfere or interrupt the sessions. I found Dr. Griggs through my insurance and needed some life coaching. I reached out and we set up an appointment. I met with him for a little over a year once or twice a month. We would meet and I'd discuss my life events that month and he'd put his hand under his chin and just stare at the camera blankly. I give everyone a chance to start so I went through the motions and played the part. Then I started noticing things, he would forget details of people or life events I assumed he'd written down but did not have the correct info. After a few sessions I started really noticing he has no idea why I am here and what my goal is. At the end of the day he didn't value me as a patient and he just genuinely does not care about you. I get it it's a business and he may have been great in his prime but based on the information he's told me about his personal life and practice he's got his foot out the door and needs to retire. I won't go into details about his billing process but that is a mess in itself and I am now dealing with after math of that because he also is terrible at communicating. None the less do yourself a favor and shop around and avoid this provider. read more

Not only is Dr. Griggs a scam artist, he's a pervert. On our first visit he told me that I was too pretty to be so upset which made me feel very uncomfortable. Then he cancelled my second appointment then charged me for a visit, I declined to pay for a visit we did NOT have, and now he's sent a $337 bill to collections. I DID NOT EVEN SEE HIM AGAIN AND I HAVE GOLD PPO INSURANCE AND HES STILL RUINING MY CREDIT. I am disputing this charge and will fight him in court if I need to. SCAM ARTIST!!!!!!! Horrible service from this Doctor. Apparently he also is the insurance biller. He billed my families insurance for 2 visits. Once for individual visit and another family therapy. The family therapy was never done so that's Very unethical on his part. In addition, he is sending an additional bill to have my family Pay for the same bill the insurance has already paid for. Which he keeps saying that it has not been paid. We have been trying to talk to him over the phone or maybe he is trying to take advantage because he thinks my wife is vulnerable. I have been seeing Dr. Griggs for over 7 months. He has been a great therapist. He listens to me and provides feedback and offers suggestions to help improve my life. He is very trustworthy, which is important to me because I don't trust anyone. His calm and relaxed demeaner eases my own anxiety and paranoia, making it easier for me to talk to him about a large range of personal topics, that I typically avoid discussing with anyone. He has been the one person I can talk honestly and openly to, where I don't feel like I am being judged or feel like some horrible person for my negative thoughts or past behaviors. Other therapists that I have seen in the past, were quick to drop me because I was "too complicated" or have "too many issues" to address, Dr. Griggs continues to patiently work with me, to help me change my way of thinking. Stay away! He describes himself as "warm and Fuzzy" type. NOT! I found him crude and crass and judgmental. I only saw him 2 or 3 times via video. He then screwed up my insurance billing and did not submit it properly. He sent me bills but to the wrong address. Then even though he had my number he did not call but sent it to collection. I really wish yelp has 0 stars! My son was having issues with school and due to the rush in getting him seeing a therapist, I contacted Steven Griggs. He does give you the creeps but again due to being desperate, I sent my son to see him. We had a handful of sessions and stopped earlier this year. It's 2020!! Who uses hand written billing? Anyway, he didn't have any issues billing my insurance at the beginning and now that we're at the end, he does. Since he's been having issues with billing, he's threatening to send me to collections due to not being paid. He says he's contacted my insurance and not getting any response. I called one time and spoke to someone from my insurance and provided me instructions on how to submit properly. After that was a success, I paid the difference that my insurance didn't cover and I emailed him to ensure that we're at 0 balance! Low and behold, now we apparently owe $160 due to missed appointment??!!! Which was never mentioned before! So please be careful with this guy. I would not recommend him even if he's the only person available. read more

Dr Griggs reluctantly accepted our son and myself for few hrs of therapy. after a few sessions , He recommended us to follow with Amen clinic to be able to assess the problem. After months of back and forth ,insurance did not cover the charge and $4500 later ( paid to Amen clinic) he was not able to assess any results and reports nor showed any interest to follow up with them or us to see how he can help. Anytime he needed to do anything with insurance he said he would bill for his time. We found him very unhelpful, money oriented , lacking compassion and at times making unnecessary comments which were actually over the line , hurtful and patronizing . We keep getting bills as well and have to keep checking with insurance to clarify his bills. We would not be seeking his help nor can we recommend him to anyone. read more

I told him I've been researching a specific personality disorder for several years now and I expressed interest in getting a diagnosis. His response? For anyone new to therapy, I recommend an open mind in selecting a therapist. You may have to shop around to find a therapist you can connect with. That said, through 10 years of therapy and many different therapists, I am so grateful for Dr. Griggs. I find him extremely patient, calm, and professional. Yes, I'm looking for someone to listen, but also to help develop specific actionable items between sessions. I typically leave with a manageable plan for what I want to work on. Next session we check in and adjust. I've never had an issue with billing. If you are someone who cancels a lot, he might not be a good fit for you. If you want to call and talk right now and you can't wait until your next appointment, he might not be for you. He's always booked really far out, and it seems that perhaps he has boundaries regarding non-appointment hours. I'd like some of that for myself, to be honest. Regarding the books he writes: His website has many short books that he has written on a wide variety of topics. I have never felt pressured to purchase them. In my perspective, I could pay a competitive hourly rate for a PhD psychologist to one-on-one tutor me on the terminology/ symptoms/common experiences of condition XYZ so that we can talk about it the following session. I do not have time or money for that. Give me the homework and I will read the book with a highlighter. I come to the sessions with questions and leave with a plan. Efficiency. I love it. This is my experience- yours may be different. Regardless, I hope you find the help you need. Everyone probably needs therapy, and you'll wish you started sooner. Saw him a couple years ago. I was stressed and depressed and he told me to take a bat and beat up a bush. I'm not joking. And then he mostly talked about himself. As if he had no training IMO. then he did some shenanigans with the billing. In the end he never answered my issue regarding the billing. I don't even believe he got his degree from an APA accredited school. Obviously never went back. UPDATE: This is too funny. A week after I wrote this review, an over-the-top and curiously written glowing Yelp review was written by James P (who had never written a review on Yelp before). His billing is completely outdated. I always pay with a check up front $45.00 co-pay. Have all my bank statements with dates and my health insurance records for visits as well. After our last appointment I notified him I no longer will be coming in. So I get a bill for $15.00 and I call and ask why on his voicemail and asked him to explain it. He called and left me a voicemail saying that I just owe $15.00 and that's it with zero explanation on the $15.00 and how it got there. So whatever I sent the check. And now I get a new charge of $20.00 out of no where mailed to me with a threat to collections. And I have not received any other bills from him to even warrant a collections warning never received the original charge for the $20.00 or even the $15.00 charge and judging by some of these reviews this a common theme. Very unfortunate but luckily for me I have everything documented. read more

Dr. Griggs is unprofessional and relies on you to figure out your own problems. He does not guide you in a way that is cathartic, but rather feels as though it is his duty to make you feel even lesser than you were when you came to him. He cancels appointments without notice, is unorganized and double books appointments. Furthermore, he will charge you for said appointment, regardless of a valid dispute and a lack of acknowledging culpability, he will pursue payment so far as to send you to a debt collector. Dr. Griggs seemed unaware of what case we were when we visited him, and he pushed his e-books as treatment - at an extra fee. He never once remembered my name. He also billed our Insurance Company for services not rendered. He would NOT return calls concerning the billing problems. I would say to look for someone more reliable. He is a very nice man, but not organized at all.. ***UPDATE*** Dr. Griggs is a shady dude! He double billed our insurance company under two different tax-id's. He collected for over 4 sessions TWICE! When I noticed the double billings, our insurance investigated him and found that he has been doing this for YEARS!! So, yes... nice guy, but not a good guy. He's in it for the money folks. Dr Griggs is a counselor with an exceptional level of skill. He is an excellent listener and has a real talent for assessing situations quickly and efficiently - which makes the process far less painful and time consuming than you would expect. He also makes the process enjoyable while he teaches you simple, easy to learn skills that yield immediate noticeable results. As far as cost, he is very reasonable when compared to other PHD's, and he is very flexible with a busy schedule. He doesn't try to oversell you on visits like a lot of counselors- he let's you decide how often you want to see him. This guy appears to be a scammer, he wants to sell you his books, counselling seems more like a secondary focus, we visited him for a consultation, we quickly decided he wasn't a good fit for us. Not a good therapist in my opinion. As someone who has an anxiety disorder, he was not forgiving or friendly. He really forced his ebooks on you, which he charges you for and makes the entire visit essentially impersonal. I think it was mentioned before, but be careful with his billing. The system he uses is extremely outdated. Everything else aside, he just doesn't seem to care. I mean, he really just seems done with his job. When you go to a therapist, you need someone that cares. That is absolutely paramount to your success, and Steven Griggs really just doesn't care. Maybe he has been in the business too long and needs to hang it up. This guy really has no sympathy for others. I've gone to him for a year and a half and turns out that the first year I went to him, I was covered under my insurance and the new year came and all of a sudden I wasn't covered. I am still at the same job with the same insurance. I billed me for my last visit, which was normal, called him and told him please don't send me to collections because my grandma had just passed away and I had some funeral expenses that put me behind financially. Do u think he waited or followed up? No. I was able to gather some money to pay what I owe and a few days earlier he sent me to collections with out telling me. He called and said I waited to long after I dropped off my payment of what I owed him. I called collections to see if they can drop the case since I paid him what I owed and they said yes just have him call and send in proof of payment, so I did. Called and left a voicemail telling him instructions on what to do. Mind you this collection agency never called me and I had never received notice of a collection bill. Now he's saying that I was aware of it and I owe them the money w the fee. My case is closed at his office and he can't be in the middle. Pretty ridiculous! Smh. Never will I go back or refer people. Talk about being money hungry and having no sympathy when supposedly his practice is to help people. Get out of here! read more

I believe Dr. Griggs is an amazing, intuitive, smart therapist, and just all around good guy. The truth is, he "got me", the first time he met me, which is kind of amazing. It usually takes several sessions before a new therapist gets to know you as a person, if your lucky. That's only if your truly honest and communicate. I found him to be totally non-judgmental, insightful, concerned and caring. I might even go so far as to say he is the best therapist I have personally been too. I've been to 4, since college, I'm 57 now. I do recommend him, and I'm sure I will seek him out in the future, when the need arrises. I found Dr. Griggs through my company's EAP and boy what a find. Some previous therapists I had dealt with were for a lack of better words, cold. Some telling me that it is "all in my head". Dr. Griggs is warm, compassionate, and highly knowledgable. When you walk into his office you feel "at home" because it feels like your own living room. This environment is conducive to productive session and really puts you at ease. Dr. Griggs epitomizes professionalism and shows a genuine sense of compassion for each and every patient. And although he does not accept my current insurance I would certainly consider paying the full price if I were in need of therapy. read more

Do NOT go to this doctor!!!!!!!!Dr. Griggs billed my insurance with the incorrect tax id number so my insurance company denied the claim. He does his own billing and does not have a receptionist so the only way to communicate with him is through voicemail. I left a message requesting he rebill my insurance and even gave him the correct tax id number. He just kept sending me bills adding interest and would not return my calls. I left about 10 messages and sent him a certified letter requesting he work it out with my insurance and he did not respond. He just added 60% to my bill and sent me to collections and still will not submit a new claim to my insurance. I am going to have to take him to small claims court now. I also found Dr. Griggs through my work EAP, and when my sessions run out I will pay to continue seeing him. He is kind, funny and very smart. He is patient, and listens carefully, but will not hesitant to tell you what he thinks about a situation. He is not into blaming, but helping people cope with the cards they've been dealt. He ebooks are great. I've bought four of them, and they are very enlightening. If you are ready to do the work of self improvement, reading the books will save a lot of office time, which can then be spent on talking about how the books apply to my life and my family.
