The workers here are so unprofessional and lack empathy. We missed our bus by one minute due to a flight delay and our bus leaving early. As we ran in staff literally laughed at us. Clapping and laughing stating "we got 3 more!!, looks like it's gonna be a full house" When I attempted to ask a question about re-booking/availability a heavy set black woman with face tattoos refused to acknowledge me because she was watching her movie and told me to go to luggage,which is outrageous because she had the time to laugh and stare at us. She is not a good representation of the greyhound, and a performance review needs to be conducted. After having a long plane ride to be laughed at and ignored as a customer is disgusting. The staff are some of the most disrespectful, unhelpful, non-understanding, and all around evil human beings I have ever interacted with in my entire life. First of all, I booked a round trip ticket which was a mistake on my end because the representative wouldn't change only my returning ticket to a new date. They were trying to change my original bus ticket too which would've been sold out if I didn't say f*** it and buy a new returning ticket. $40 later I go to my bus at 11pm and there's a no show driver/late driver. I was trying to contact customer service because there were no attendants at the station letting us know what was happening and of course no one at customer service answered. It said the reps were offline as well on the online chat. It's almost 1am at this point and a driver walks in that looks way too tired to drive. Like an unsafe amount of tired. He takes 20 minutes to even turn on the bus. Something was off so I left and had to call into work. Would rather be safe than sorry. Then I call the Greyhound customer service line this morning. They won't help me at all. No supervisor I could talk to either. They said I have to pay $20 just to make a change and book me on a new bus but aren't going to refund me...what's the point? One time, I had a bus scheduled for 7 AM from Detroit to Cleveland for a 3.5 hour ride, and it was delayed so much without further explanation that they had to put us on the 12:30 PM bus that ran 5 hours. Today, I had a 12 PM bus that the monitor display clearly stated was departing at Gate 3. I made sure to keep looking at Gate 3 around 11:50 - 12:10, and nothing. I got up and spoke to someone who I expected would help me out. To my absolute disgust, I had the displeasure of interacting with Greyhound Detroit's customer service desk who was blaming me for not listening instead of admitting their fault for their bus leaving early and at the wrong gate. This disgusting and terrible station will not be benefiting from my repeat business, and I will do, with all my power, to make sure this place gets the least amount of business possible. VENUE -- cash only food and drink vending machines, no change machine. So so cleanliness. TV. Heat is now provided 24/7 in winter. Comfortable in summer but unclear if it's AC. Detroit Greyhound Trip From Hell!! I-Yi-Yi. My Detroit to Chicago trip last week was the trip from hell!! Found out that the Detroit terminal is is NOT a 24 hour bus station. I went down in the wee hours of the morning, as I had an early bus, only to find the doors locked tight (thank God it was summer and not the dead of winter or I would have frozen to death)! Peering through the windows I saw a least 30 or so people camped out, laying on the floor etc. Oh snap....not a good sign. Anyway, my E ticket dissappeared from my smart phone, (I usually print it, but decided to be a "techie" this time). Apparently Greyhound's E-system went down. But they texted me 4 hours after the fact! Finally they got MY ticket (and several other E-ticket folks), squared away, but in the midst I heard a loud, fierce argument between a Greyhound driver and a passenger. Thought they were coming to blows, so 2 security guards ran over. Evidently there were some driver no-shows, some late buses, & some broken down buses, thus that explained the angry passengers and "Camp Greyhound". (passenger camp outs!). Finally my bus to Chicago shows up late, (actually 2 buses due to an over flow of passengers). So no meal stops, and one station along the route - both the female and male restrooms were out of order. Needless to say, we arrived in Chicago 2 hours late. The bus air conditioning was freezing, and I'd forgotten my blanket (Yikes!). But being a seasoned traveler, I just shut up and rolled with the punches. I read Vampire novels on my kindle. The driver was super nice and super patient, so the trip was ......well.... the trip was (lol!) Anyway 5 stars to the driver, still three stars to Greyhound. But all-in-all the prices still makes Greyhound is worth it! So...happy trails to you 'til we meet again. read more

Dear greyhound, We need to have a talk. Your bus drivers are becoming worse and worse. I take several bus trips a month. My children travel by themselves several times a year by themselves to visit family. I feel like your drivers are not being reprimanded for their attitudes and actions and that is why they feel like they can do and say what ever they please. I currently have three complaints from the past month. Yes we travel that much. The first one is mine. I had an eticket and instead of the bus driver scanning my ticket he took my phone and scrolled through my photos and made sexual comments about my underage daughter... The second one about my son who was a underage child traveling alone. It was his first time traveling. He was supposed to switch buses and he asked the driver where he was supposed to go and the driver ignored him,gave him a disgusting fave and walked away without a word...my son is 15. Then today my daughter traveled for the first time by herself. The driver snatches the ticked out of her hand. Then throws it at her and yells at her to hold it. I told him it was her first time traveling so he could be nice. He then proceeded to say you don't know who your talking to. I asked his name and he said I don't need to give you my damn name. I had to ask several employees to get his name. It's Cole btw. Oh and he said if I wanted my daughter to be safe I should travel with her And I believe Cole is the same man who made sexual comments about her photos during my trip. I want to cry. I am now terrified this man will hurt my daughter on this 12 hour trip. And all three occasions I made complaints. No calls back. When I call you there is nothing for them to tell me. I do not matter to you. You hire pedofiles and rude people. Had a friend who was doing some holiday travel via the Greyhound to save some money. She needed a ride so I decided to drop her off and stick around during the wait.. Something you can do at the bus station that you can no longer do at the airport. I have to say I was very surprised by how clean the actual place was. It looks reasonably well maintained and the staff was courteous and helpful. Of course, that's not to say the place wasn't filled with all kinds of characters, including the toothless gentleman across the way who was rolling his own cigarettes. I wondered to my friend how many of those people were there to ride a bus somewhere to meet someone they met on the Internet. While I can't say I'd choose the Bus as my normal form of travel, many of my preconceptions where proven to be incorrect. read more

You basically get what you pay for; and if it was cheap, expect delays and shit among other things. There's no ATM here. Their washrooms stink. Your initial bus leaves 15 to 25 minutes later than departure time. You arrive late to your connection bus. It gets super cramped cause everyone you went on board with, also missed their next bus. The next buses are also late. There's no heating??? Why are you lying to me Belle L.? It's a solid 'it's too cold in here please turn the heart on' temp. Buses don't come with trackers so if they're late or experiencing delays, the info desk doesn't have anything 4 you. 3 hours of vacation time will be made up how??? Petition** to get a percentage of your ticket refunded if you miss your connection bus if the arriving bus you're on comes late. Otherwise? Don't plan your connection buses so fucking close together so that if there is a delay. This fucking shit doesn't happen. Listen, I'm sure the employees don't get paid fucking enough but the least the planning team is have the layovers be longer than 10 god forsaken minutes so I don't miss a bus because some degenerate is fighting with border patrol over some mangoes. Am I mad? It's Christmas and I won't be able to do the shit I wanted to do with a loved one because the service is unreliable and I've got nothing to do for 3 damn hours so here I am complaining. This was an absolutely horrible experience. On 9/28/2020 I took the 4:00 PM Greyhound Bus from Detroit to Chicago. Detroit Greyhound Bus Terminal: Hardly anyone was wearing masks. The security guard often had his mask around his neck and not covering his face. I spotted one uniformed Greyhound employee with her mask pulled down as she walked across the terminal. Customers were walking in without their facemask or with their facemask not covering their face and the Greyhound security and employees did nothing to address this. The terminal is a cesspool and disgustingly dirty throughout. There was no concern for the safety or heath of anyone at the terminal. This behavior by Greyhound is utterly disgusting. While on the bus, I would estimate 30 to 40 percent of the riders removed their mask. The bus driver did nothing to enforce the mask issue. During the ride, there were at least three people talking extremely loud on their phones and their loud voices and phone conversations could be heard throughout the bus. The bus driver did nothing to correct this issue. One of the passengers, an African American woman, was extremely loud and used the "N" word repeatedly during her conversation. Using this word in any context is offensive, racially intolerable and inexcusable. The bus driver did nothing to remedy this situation. The fact that an employee of Greyhound would tolerate such racists behavior is appalling on so many levels. The fact that they allow such behavior promotes racism on multiple levels. The third issue was a passenger who was clearly inebriated at the Detroit terminal. He was still allowed to board this bus. During the trip he would walk up and down the aisles WITHOUT wearing his face covering and asking the driver when he could get out and smoke. Why was he allowed on the bus in the first place and what right did he have to endanger the rule abiding passengers by not wearing a mask? How could Greyhound tolerate this??? I find it appalling that Greyhound has no respect for the health or safety of their passengers, let alone the amount of disrespect they have for their rule abiding patrons. We bought our tickets ahead of time online appx 3 weeks before the trip. When the day of the trip comes here was our shitty (and last) greyhound experience. We arrived early to depart from lexington, as the bus arrived a few minutes late we were told there is no room on the bus, we presented our previously bought ticket and the bus driver rudely told us our ticket was overbooked and we had to wait over 2 hours for the next bus, after being rudely talked to by the bus driver we were forced off the bus and to wait. Next we called the customer service number and the animal on the other line was not helpful, rude and sounded to be irritated at each customer that was pushed out by over booking (appx 10 of us) and they refused to help us and or answer our questions Next we waited over 2 hours for the next bus where nearly the same thing happened, and now we cant get a refund or credit or anything? Airlines are forced to give you reimbursement but greyhound gave us an attitude and oversold our seats. Now it is my mission to post on every popular forum the negative and dangerous experiences (my friend was left at a bus stop all alone for 2 hours in some shady areas and she experienced some harassment from locals) but does greyhound care about the customers it promises tickets to? No it oversells your ticket, refused to offer compensation,and gave only poor customer service/refuses to assist customers they have inconvenienced, unsafe rides/drop offs And quite possibly the worst customer service Ive experienced in years. I have not had a good time on Greyhounds. The staff always seems nice enough,, the facilities are average, they have nice vending machines at most spots. But there are a few other elements to the scenario that rub me the wrong way. No fault of the company besides over booking buses which turns in to battle boarding or arriving so late you miss your transfer and spend two nights in Billings, Wyoming snuggled up to a concrete bench. They are a very average company that offers a mediocre service and warrant limited merit. Greyhound bus lines are good for two things. The first is short trips between cities that are unreachable by any other means of public transportation or are less than three hours away by car. I relish in the romantic notions of not having a car. I hate cars, they try to kill me. Day trips to nearby towns full of friends warm my heart. It would be nice to be able to hop on a bus and let greyhound do the driving, but unfortunately the reality is that the bus is a scary proposition when taking long trips. The second thing Greyhound has going for it is the crowd that rides to and fro. Most of the trip consists of catching a skin virus and an earful of schizophrenic rant. Holy crap. I have probably traveled over 10,000 miles on a bus and have heard everything from riders trying to sell me various chemicals to full murder confessions. Halfway through the trip I always have a sudden epiphany, it's that people who ride the bus do not know how to book a flight or just got out of prison. I'm not sure what's worse, a bus shaped sardine can full of tweekers bumming smokes or getting off the bus in the sketchiest part of every major city in the country. That is a whole other ordeal in it's own. Nothing like being a stranger fresh off the bus getting dropped off in South Central. The only thing that keeps most people in line over long hauls is the driver. I have seen drivers straight leave "that guy" on the side of the road in bfe Montana. Word gets around when your cousin gets left sucking dust for telling the driver off or being insanely drunk. Props to the drivers who keep it on the road. I give them 5 stars. The thing about Greyhound is that it's pretty shitty mo matter where you go. They've been the unchecked leader in bus travel for ages now. Now that Megabus is finally giving it a run for its money, Greyhound has been slowly improving. I can say, however, that even when Greyhound was at its shittiest the station in Detroit has never given me a problem. I've been travelling via greyhound and have been to stations all over North America and the station in Detroit is the only one where I have never had a rude interaction, a cancelled bus, or a ticketing issue. It's not the cleanest station there is and it's not the most comfortable, but the people here do their job and that deserves a trophy when it comes to the quality of greyhound. read more

The price is great but the service is quite the opposite. Overall, the systems in place to catch any mistakes are horrible. I arrived at the bus station in Chicago to catch my ride back to Detroit. Once I got in line the man scanning tickets told me the bus wasn't going to Detroit anymore. No warning ahead of time or anything. They tell me to go to the customer service desk to figure out the whole ordeal. These poor timid college students were getting yelled at ahead of me for asking why their trip was cancelled and what to do next. The guy at the counter didn't want to hear anything from anyone and wouldn't give out any valid answers to our questions. After speaking up myself he slammed a sheet down and said call that number. After calling I found out 1) They would not refund my ticket because their system still says it was still going to Detroit and won't update until after the ride is done...and my ticket was nonrefundable 2) I would have to come back the next day to try and get on another bus back home. Neither of which were good options for me. While I was doing this my husband was getting yelled at and threatened by the man with the ticket scanner for simply asking why the bus wasn't going to Detroit anymore. I understand he was probably agitated due to the high volume of people asking this question, but if someone just gave an explanation, then people would have backed down. When I went up to see what is going on, the man says let me see you ticket, scans it, and then says I'll make an exception. So I get on with many other tired and worried passengers hoping we can get near/to our destinations like promised (and stated on our tickets). The bus driver made it seem like he was doing us a big favor by making the (scheduled) stops along the way to drop people off, and did in fact go to Detroit. Although he did skip two stops, which meant passengers had to get off at stops and uber their way home and passengers waiting to be picked up were out of luck. Still unsure why they would lie and say the bus driver wasn't going to Detroit and why he decided to skip two stops. In all, if you want to ride Greyhound, be prepared to deal with lots of unanswered questions, schedule changes, rude customer service employees, and poor communication (in person and on their app). Make sure to speak up when appropriate because they don't seem to jump in to help when situations are rough or mistakes are made on their part. read more

My fiancé was catching the bus in Ann Arbor to come to Chicago, he got to the station early to not only wait for a late bus, but also to be told that there were only 12 seats available (note there were at least 20+ people outside waiting). So he wasn't able to get on a bus that he paid in advance for and showed up early to and nor were the other potential passengers. The bus driver was just as clueless stating "I don't know. I'm just the bus driver". That was the last straw. Greyhound no longer has either one of our services. THEY ARE HORRIBLE, DON'T DO IT. Yes, we called and complained and were issued a refund. But that doesn't add up to the fact that you, as a company, sold more tickets then you had seats!!! Every single experience I've had with Greyhound was BAD! Today I went it for an 8am trip that would've lasted 3h 25m NOW still waiting for the 'broken down' bus to be fixed. I bet you I end up on the 11am schedule that is a 5h trip causing me to be late for what I had planned 4 months in advance. Horrible timing, very unprofessional customer service, no communication as far as delays and what time the bus will be arriving (at lease approximate). Had an hour delay, bus arrived, they had everyone stand in line while they loaded the luggage (normally load luggage while boarding bus), after they loaded the luggage everyone stood in line for 25 more minutes. They did not tell us why we were waiting- no type of communication. Did not depart until 945am and the schedule departure was 750am. To add, the attendants at the desk are always rude and disrespectful. Travel to and from Detroit every month. Wish there was an alternative and cheap commute other then plane and Amtrak. read more

We arrived at 8 pm for a 9:15 bus to Ohio and a planned a connection bus to Jersey at 10:30. At baggage check in a rude short stocky black woman named Carleeta barked at us "The line won't open until 8:30!" When we lined up she Terrorized my daughter because she didn't have her two tickets printed on seperate sheets of paper. She told us sit and wait until she could come out from the counter. Time went by and the bus was leaving at 9:15. I as her mother became upset and asked her to please print the ticket as she said she would and she yelled that we should have been more prepared. She Caused major anxiety to everyone waiting in line for the busses. I became upset since she was making my young daughter miss the trip. After begging the security guard the counter woman Finally printed a ticket so my daughter could make the bus. My daughter went to the bus and I confronted the woman after. I asked for her first and last name so I could address the issue with her Greyhound superiors. As soon as I did that she yelled ok! Now I'm taking her off the bus! She stormed back into the bus and pulled my daughter off it to terrorize some more for punishment to me for demanding her name. Based on the other reviews I've just read, I'm realizing I should not be surprised at my experience. As many others have stated, I would give them 0 stars if it were possible. I went on the Greyhound website to purchase a ticket for my son, who is coming home from college for the weekend. When I went to pay for the ticket and changed the cardholder name from my son's to mine, I was shocked to see an $18.00 "Gift Ticket Order" fee applied to my order summary. This $18 is almost half the total cost of the ticket we are purchasing! It makes no sense. I am still paying for a ticket from point A to point B, and there is still one person traveling. Why should it matter who is paying for the ticket? I thought I must be misunderstanding, so I opened a chat session as invited in the bottom corner of my screen. It took some time for the representative to respond to my inquiry, and shortly after we started our exchange I was disconnected - in the middle of the conversation. Very poorly designed technology! After being disconnected from the chat I decided that calling Customer Service would be preferable. I received the same answer from the Customer Service rep on the phone as the chat representative, saying that there is nothing we can do and this is "company policy", a stock answer to be sure. I have worked in Customer Service and trained the fact that the standard "company policy" line should not be used with an unhappy customer because it is sure to make them even more unhappy. I can confirm that this is the case, as it did indeed make me more unhappy. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was kept holding for over six minutes. I was periodically put on hold for a few seconds and then taken off hold for minutes at a time where I could hear all of the background chatter in the call center. At one point I even had to ask if I was still holding for a supervisor, because I wasn't sure if I had been forgotten. As an unhappy customer, sitting and listening to laughter and chatter was irritating at best. Finally, I was transferred to the supervisor, who told me exactly the same thing about "company policy" and said that there was no way to waive the fee. I actually felt bad for the supervisor, because I can only imagine that this complaint comes up often. I cannot believe that anyone who tries to purchase a ticket for another person (be it parent for child, assistant for manager, wife for husband, etc.) would be willing to pay this ridiculous fee. I will find a way for my son to pay for the ticket from school, but what should have been a simple 2-minute online transaction with one email that I could forward to him for printing his ticket has turned into over 30 minutes of hassle, and we hadn't even purchased a ticket yet! I certainly did not expect this from a company as well known as Greyhound, and I am appalled! (For the record, I want to note that I completely understand the security need to be careful of who your passengers are. I expect that the passenger name listed on the ticket fare needs to match the provided identification upon boarding, and I do not dispute any of that. My complaint lies only with the payment process, which has absolutely no bearing on the identification of the passenger, and the complete lack of customer service.) Fast forward to this afternoon. I had followed up my phone call yesterday with an email to customer service, thinking that at least I might be able to get an explanation of the policy from someone in management (preferably in America, since I'm fairly certain the call center was overseas). I received a response to the email, which clearly had not been read, saying that the only way to address my concern was to call Customer Service, which I HAD ALREADY DONE! Greyhound's Customer Service is appalling, and if I had any other option for my son to get home I would certainly be using it! I can only keep my fingers crossed that his actual experience riding on Greyhound is far better than most other Yelp reviewers have indicated! read more

Detroit greyhound bus station has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They have a rep working there by the name of Carlisa that is disrespectful and should not be working in a public place where there is interaction with customers. I have never been to a place that I pay for service and experienced such poor customer service. The way she speaks to customer is down right nasty and I can't believe they would have someone employed like that. It's so sad because the other employee said she is always like that and nothing has been done about it. I have called their hotline to make a complaint and I will be filing an official BBB complaint until this is looked into. I missed my bus not once but twice because of her having an attitude and being unpleasant. My whole experience has changed what I think about Greyhound transportation and I will no longer ride with them! read more
