When I was young and broke and in college, I took Greyhound to almost every distant place I visited: Boston to Montréal: Los Angeles to Vancouver: New Orleans to Orlando: Chicago to Charleston SC: San Francisco to New York to Boston to Washington DC to Quebec to Denver: and finally from Chicago to Boston and Boston to New York (about ten times round-trip each because I went to College Boston and my cousin lived in NYC so my mother would often meet me in New York for brief holidays like Thanksgiving and Birthdays). And I am not kidding about the number of times I traveled by Bus (and even more times than I listed above if you count the Trailways Bus Lines, plus Megabus, BoltBus, Lux Bus America, Vamoose, and RedCoach. Founded in 1914, Greyhound Lines, Inc. is the largest provider of intercity bus transportation, serving 2400 destinations across North America with a modern, environmentally friendly fleet. We received a text message with a link saying that the payment for said barcode was successfull but no ticket. We waited overnight and called. I traveled from Michigan to Los Angeles by bus, the bus I was taking had mechanical issues and was in for service so my layover was extended by a couple of hours. No big deal. I walked around during that time and stopped for food arriving back just as MY bus was departing. The staff assured me that I would arrive to my destination without issue. I was 4 hours behind my luggage. I arrived only to discover that my life, (in the luggage) was nowhere to be found. Talking to humans on this side of the planet is non-existent. There was absolutely no way to speak to someone who could do more than parrot the company line (we're not responsible) If you require travel across country, do not use this method. read more

The security here does keep non-ticketed passengers out of the terminal, but that's pretty much where the good things end. The bathrooms are disgusting, it looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks and the employees were rude and not helpful. Our bus was supposed to be the first bus departing and they kept saying it was on time despite all the other buses leaving before ours and it hadn't even arrived yet. Our bus was an hour late with no updates from the staff, when people in line for our bus asked, she would yell at them saying that the app is wrong and the bus is on time, despite all of our printed tickets being for 5:15 am departure. Absolutely terrifying experience on June 17, 2025 from Chicago. I was traveling with my daughter from Australia. The bus was dirty, smelled awful, and had no security screening -- a guard boarded looking for a gun. The driver was aggressive, yelling profanities at other cars and appeared dangerously tired (yawning, closing eyes, hitting his head). A passenger behind us had his pants undone and was coughing phlegm. Another passenger argued with the driver. A loud bang scared everyone (later said to be a balloon). We exited the trip early in Indianapolis and were helped by a police officer to reach safety. Greyhound refuses to refund us. Do not travel with Greyhound -- especially if you're not from the U.S. Unsafe, unprofessional, and completely dismissive of serious concerns. read more

This is the worst bus station in the country. Ultra sketchy, even in the daytime. Because I'm from the area, I've been coming here for many years and every time I go here it seems like it gets even more dilapidated. The employees don't give a damn in the world. It's dirty everywhere. The bathrooms are filthy, with graffiti on the mirror, holes in the walls, plumbing that hardly works, piss and shit overflowing from the toilets. There's always people yelling, hell, one lady got into a fight in the female bathroom with a girl who was shooting up heroin or something right in the morning as I was catching a bus to Indiana. What a fantastic way to start my morning. Always the most unpleasant experiences. One big reason why I've cut back on bus travel, even if it incurs a larger expense to travel, I can't deal with this crap anymore. read more

The bus ride to and from my destination was peaceful - aside from some commotion with an aggressive passenger - but my trip was nearly ruined TWICE by being placed in an assigned seat on the opposite side from my travel buddy. I am autistic and did not know that there would be assigned seats at all when booking and was under the impression that seating would be first come, first serve. Traveling while autistic is hard enough with the extreme lack of transparency on policies and procedures regarding boarding and where to be but to then by unnecessarily separated -with no warning- from my partner was terrifying and distressing. There were less than 20 travelers on both trips. The first driver didn't care if we rode together, but the second driver rudely demanded that we sit in our assigned seats. I cannot recommend greyhound to anyone who struggles with the lack of transparency and communication or with random policies that make no logical sense. Everything I looked up said that assigned seats were meant to keep parties together - which clearly is not the case. Please do better. read more

So, my student graciously decided to give Greyhound a second chance for a surprise visit. This time was a day trip from 8-4 and they stated it wasn't so bad. They weren't trying to sleep, so comfort wasn't as much of an issue. The driver even allowed them to disembark halfway to stretch out and walk around. They were able to bring a larger bag than even the cheapest flights allow, storing it below. So, my advice if you are taking the Greyhound bus, take it during the day, not overnight. And hopefully you will get a driver that allows stretch breaks. read more

I've had many bad experiences with greyhound but my most recent experience was horrible and completely unacceptable that I will never ride greyhound again. My sister and I purchased greyhound tickets and showed up to the bus station on time but due to a ticketing error in their system the bus driver wasn't able to scan our barcode. Even though the ticket was valid, and he could have asked for our reservation number he refused to even look at the ticket and refused to let us on the bus. He left us at the greyhound station and we were forced to purchase new tickets for the next bus that was supposed to arrive an hour and a half later. Because we were buying day of, the tickets were more expensive than the original tickets we purchased. The new bus that we had purchased tickets for ended up being over two hours delayed. At this point my sister and I had spent over 4 hours at the greyhound bus station waiting for the second bus after being refused entry on the first bus We were frustrated and tired and wanted to leave the bus station which I should add was very disgusting and only had one staff member working who wasn't helpful at all. So we finally decided to purchase a new bus ticket through a different transportation carrier and left the bus station forgoing our greyhound bus tickets. In accordance with Greyhound's policy, as clearly stated on their website (URL: https://greyhound.my.site.com/CustomerSelfServicePortal/s/article/Ticket-Exchanges-and-Refunds?language=en_US), we are undeniably eligible for a full refund due to the extensive delay we experienced. Their policy specifically states that if a bus is delayed by 120 minutes or more at departure, passengers are entitled to request a refund for the ticket price. We have contacted Greyhound numerous times via phone and email to request our rightful refund, but have been consistently met with refusals and evasive tactics, despite our eligibility as per their policy. After emailing, calling, and writing multiple complaints my sister and I have still not received a refund which we are 100% warranted. Greyhound makes it impossible to receive a refund because if you call they will tell you all that they can do over the phone is give you a voucher and the only way to receive a refund is to request a refund online but if you request a refund online all they will do is thank you for your feedback and not provide any refund. It's clear that this is an automated response and that no one is taking any complaints seriously. When I called I had a customer service agent tell me that the bus arrived on time so I wasn't eligible for anything, essentially calling me a liar. It is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I have filed a complaint on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website but aside from this I don't anticipate greyhound taking my complaint seriously because they do not care about their customers nor do they care about their safety. On the BBB you will find multiple complaints of regarding passenger safety (i.e. drivers appearing fatigued or intoxicated, unsanitary buses and stations, racists and aggressive staff, etc.). I will never ride greyhound again and I recommend that you do not either. There are other transportation carriers that are still affordable and much cleaner much more reliable and they care much more about their customers. I would recommend using FlixBus or Miller Transportation if you are looking for and affordable bus option for transportation. read more

I feel like most people have been reviewing Greyhound as a whole and not this location compared to othes. Yes, Greyhound as a company sucks. They have had a monopoly over the busing industry for ages. Now, they are finally trying to improve now that megabucks has become so popular. I think that improvement can be seen in Greyhound Chicago. I've been to a lot of Greyhounds throughout North America and this is the first one I've seen that has lockers. WELCOME TO THE 21ST CENTURY GREYHOUND. It's crazy to me how uncommon lockers are in the States. Isn't it pretty straightforward that travellers will sometimes need places to put things? Not even all airport have luggage storage and I don't get it. Also, the departures times and gates are clearly marked in a highly visible location. This may seem like a straightforward thing, but you'd be surprised at how hard it is to navigate some Greyhound locations without talking to an employee meaning that if you're running late and there's a long line to talk to staff, you're screwed. That's not the case here. This location also has the self serve kiosks. Again, not all of the locations do. However, to top it all off, the staff is friendly. This is inclusive of the security guards as well. Greyhound staff and security can be so nasty sometimez, but I didn't see that at all today. The lockers are cash only and I need change for a 20 and the staff helped me out without giving me any slack. I can think of several locations where that'd be an issue. Anyways, I'd love to see more Greyhounds up to this standard. I think people would hate Greyhound less if Greyhound keeps these updates coming. read more

I'm used to taking the Amtrak into Chicago but I made a last minute decision to work at the NCAA and Amtrak had the best deal round-trip from St. Louis, MO. I've taken plenty of Mega Buses to Chicago and they have a drop off point on a street. So, Greyhound gets a bonus for having a bus terminal! The terminal has: *somewhat of a retail shop, *food station and *vending machines, *a charging station with a few power strips to plug in your devices (most use the charging station as a headrest (where there is no power strip) *ticket/exchange booth *ATM *baggage claim *24 gates Overall the place is not the cleanest but it does NOT reek of unpleasant odors. The restroom needs to have wide stalls so passengers can take their belongings in the stall instead of leaving them outside. Typical seating I've noticed are grated attached chairs. (So folks do not lay down comfortably too long). Suggested upgrades: (See my review of Greyhound Minneapolis, MN) *chairs with charging stations (usb/electrical ports) *wider restroom stalls *variety of healthy food options from at least 3 entrepreneurial vendors *retail options (entrepreneurial ventures - souvenirs, travel/clothing/toiletries, etc.) read more

We were stranded away from home with no help from the front desk or customer service. When I reached out to their refund department, they refused to return my money (even though we were not allowed to get on a bus we had paid to be in). I started on a trio Tuesday to Friday it's Sunday morning and I'm still not home, every bus was late drop off and pick up if I was flix I wouldn't partner with them your gonna sink with that ship. No compensation for their shortcomings and failures but as long as this company has operated it should not be trash. All the buses were mobile pig pens surprised they didn't have roaches on board. A service I will never use again I bet you see a decrease in travel and ticket sales 2024. I wish I was able to upload pictures of the buses and stations they operate out of 0/10. I had a good experience at this Greyhound bus station. This is a relatively large station compared to other ones. It is open 24 hours and there is a bathroom, concessions, WiFi, etc. Some people stayed the night and some of them were homeless people. Most of them sat in chairs or laid down on chairs and some people slept on the floor. I was in Chicago for less than a day, so I did not want to pay for a hotel. I came and went through this station, so I used it as my home base as I visited some places in the city. I was not disappointed. This station was safe and diverse. They provided some electrical outlets as well. Unfortunately, people smoke cigarettes directly outside, so when I left it was bothersome. Also, they lock the side entrance at night, so everybody must come and go through the main entrance. This station was pretty clean and there were plenty of seats. There were the typical metal seats, some booths and some tables. Whole Foods was in walking distance. Also, a park was only a couple of blocks away. There were no safety issues anywhere and the people were friendly and cordial. There was an Extra Space storage about a block away if you need it. read more

if I could give this Negative stars I would. the facilitys are pretty close to jails. the seating is made of Steele fence seems like. the vending machines are 3.50+ for anything cause they know you can't leave even if you have a 24hr layover they won't let you back in and are locked out. The staff treat you like scum cause they know you can't leave or they will kick you out. I simple asked the staff at the minneapolis facility if the bus Jefferson lines picks up in the same spot the greyhound dropped off. He told me to go sit down he will call for me to get on the bus when it's time at 12:15pm if I couldn't read. Instead of simple yes. and the bus the driver from champagne Illinois to Chicago not only cursed at many people. He told a guy he was gonna beat his A** after he got parked in Chicago cause the guy wanted to get off due to him disrespecting people. Then while driving he said every one stinks and he can't wait tell we get the hell off his bus. and he stated he did not care about his job or the people on the bus many times. Oh Greyhound. Oh mercy.... The stars are for the building itself, as I remember how Greyhound stations looked in the 90's and they have come a long way. This station even had a filtered water fountain to fill up your bottles. Nice. But then there's the service. Look, whether you're taking bus, train, plane, even driving yourself, delays happen. They can't always be avoided. But they can be communicated, courteously. One of the employees seemed particularly bothered to be asked when the bus was coming, as if this was an unreasonable inquiry after a 25 minute delay and no update. My bus finally left 1.5 hours late, which caused me to be late to a connecting bus that had already departed, and with zero communication about what those of us who were getting on that bus were to do as an alternative, I was effectively stranded 2 hours away from my destination, outside of a dark and closed bus station. The driver of the bus allowed me to get back on and ride to their next stop....still an hour from my destination, but a little more reasonable for a family member to pick me up. This was my first Greyhound experience since I was in college 15 years ago. It'll probably be at least another 15 years before I do that again. read more

Three stars, and I'm sticking to it. A less than stellar location. The Greyhound station is a few blocks from the CTA bus transit station--about a 12-minute walk--and Union station (Amtrak & commuter trains). The employees were friendly and courteous, and there's food service at this station. Tips: * Join Greyhound's frequent rider program before booking your tickets. They're currently offering a small discount for first-time program members, and if you ride them a lot you'll get points to apply to future reservations. * Print your tickets at home. Also print your itinerary of stops so you'll know the timing. Once the bus starts rolling, you can't ask the driver anything, and it can be hours between stops. * Unless you absolutely like an aisle seat or sit close to the front, I don't think it's necessary to splurge for early boarding. The buses can fill up, depending on the route, such as Indy to Chicago. If you have small children, it might be nice to be able to board earlier just for the chance at getting specific seats. * The Chicago bus station on Harrison isn't bad, and I felt safe. There are plenty of employees walking around doing things, and there's a security guard in most Greyhound stations. The men's bathroom wasn't terrible, but I'm glad I used mine at home before the trip. There's food service during the early morning and daytime hours and plenty of vending machines. * If you have luggage you want to put under the bus, you must go through the ticket line to get a luggage tag and have it weighed. Again, get to the station early enough. How early? Buses usually start boarding 20-30 minutes before departing, so maybe 45 minutes before your departure time. * If/When you get your luggage tag, be sure to double-check with the ticketing agent which boarding gate you'll line up in. The gate number on your ticket probably will not be the actual gate you'll depart from. * When it gets close to boarding time, people will start lining up at the gate. Do Not Cut In Line. * Don't be surprised if the bus you get isn't a Greyhound bus. It might be a Miller Transportation bus. I found my Miller Transportation, Chicago to Indy bus to be much, much nicer than my Indy to Chicago Greyhound bus. * Use the bus bathroom at your own peril. Useful tip: If you're traveling a great distance, buy a pack of disposable sanitizing wipes (baby wipes). Don't just buy a little bottle of hand sanitizer thinking that'll keep your fingers clean; buy wipes. You'll see what I mean and thank yourself later. * The buses can be chilly; take a sweater or hoodie. Also, if you're traveling overnight or want to sleep during the day, invest in a sleep eyemask and a pair of earplugs before your trip. * I found the WiFi signal to be fine on the Miller Transportation bus, but the Greyhound bus WiFi was spotty at best and non-existent at worst. Don't count on always getting a decent connection throughout the trip. * There's a reason you're riding a bus instead of flying or driving. Set the bar really low, and you might be pleasantly surprised in how convenient it is to let someone else drive and how inexpensive trips can be if you're willing to use Greyhound. read more

My experience was unpleasant but that was no fault of Greyhounds. The service they provided was top notch. The lady checking my bags was pleasant and wore a nice smile. The security guard was also helpful in storing my bag and helping me retrieve it later on. The bus driver I had was cool and professional. What made my experience unpleasant was the pot heads and crazy people who were at the station and who rode my bus. There was a lady being loud and cursing so when the bus stopped the driver politely told her to quiet down. She refused and started again for about thirty minutes into the drive. She kept complaining about how the driver should mind his own business and kept cursing. She continued for a while longer then she called the police and said the driver was harassing her. We were pulled over by the state trooper and she got off and told her side of the story for about thirty minutes. After he talked to the driver he talked to us and said she is going to be quiet and behave for the rest of the way. She was quieter but still being annoying. There were also people on the bus with terrible hygiene and who smelled like Weed. Big props to the Greyhound employees for putting up with all these hood rats on a daily basis. read more

This is my sincere review from an awful trip I had recently coming back from Detroit to Chicago. Greyhound is an absolutely pathetic company. I had previously heard bad reviews but wanted to give them a chance and didn't think it would be that bad. Turns out I was in for a nightmare. The bus driver lady on the trip was racist to me. In the middle of the trip, she called the police and kicked me off the bus. Why? All because I told her the way she was speaking to me was rude, and that's not the way to speak with others. She was the one who talked to me in a very derogatory fashion and made racist jokes towards my religion. On top of that, she fabricated lies to the officers, saying I called her swear words, when I don't even use such type of language. The officers were chill, and after telling them what happened, even they agreed with me. However, they couldn't do anything because the driver had authority over who could and couldn't stay in the bus. So I was kicked off the bus in the middle of nowhere. I was scared because it was already evening, and I didn't know how I would get home! The police officers guided me, and thankfully there was an Amtrak train nearby, coming in an hour. I had to pay extra money for it and got home several hours later at night than my original arrival. When I reported this incident to Greyhound and asked for a refund, they kept sending me those generic 'fake apologetic' emails. They never answered any of my questions in a straightforward manner, nor did they give me a refund, which extremely frustrating. There's no way to communicate via phone, so you'll be stuck trying to communicate to the representatives hiding behind their email. On a side note pertaining to the trip itself: The bus itself was very filthy. There was a putrid smell of feces throughout the whole trip, making it very hard to breathe. Many of us passengers had to sit all the way at the front to avoid sitting near the bathroom. The bus stations are also pretty dirty, and not very good for long layovers. All in all, if I could give negative reviews for this company, I really would. I sincerely advise everyone to save yourself money and headaches by avoiding this company at all costs. If you need to travel, Amtrak is a much better, safer, cleaner, and family-friendly company. It was my first time traveling on Amtrak as well, and I had a very smooth experience. Their ticket prices are also very economical, and even cheaper than Greyhound! All in all, just don't use Greyhound. In my 5 years traveling with greyhound, there's always 1 person working the ticket counter here, even on holidays. You're always going to wait 20min - 1hr in line to tag your luggage. Bathrooms are run down, staff is lazy, intercom is just loud indecipherable echoes of broken English. What pushed me over the edge to write this review finally is they cancelled my bus ticket back home where I'm supposed to attend a wedding without any notice. Ticket counter didn't even know at first and told me line up by the door, and after 15 min of no bus I went to the customer service desk and they said my bus was cancelled. No apology, no willingness to help, no nothing. Had to wait another 20 min in the ticket counter just to get a refund. I absolutely hate going greyhound read more

0 stars This service is incredibly disorganized and the people who work here are belligerent and rude. Firstly, they do not make it clear in the email that you need to obtain a ticket for any bags that you would like to have put under the bus or how early you need to arrive in order to do so. When I showed up 10 minutes before departure I was told there was not enough time to check my bag and I could either leave my bag behind or not go on the bus. After a very uncomfortable conversation, it turned out my bag could fit into the overhead compartment, so I made it on the bus. Then about 2 minutes into the trip the bus driver informs us that talking on the phone is prohibited, which doesn't bother me. But another passenger asked the bus driver why and the driver responds by telling him he can't and insulting him by saying "your not in school anymore". He continued to be aggressive and threatens to kick this man off the bus. My issue is not the rule itself, but how this driver reacted to a passenger. I usually don't do ratings but the way I was treated at this bus station I have to write a review , it's sad and very pathetic other passengers gave me better customer then then the actual people at the counter. I was traveling from Chicago to Colorado and at the station as soon as you goto ask them a question about anything pertaining to the travel it's like they had an attitude and at 1st I let it slide , I didn't let it get to me but by the 3rd question because it being my 1st time traveling I started to truly notice these people just didn't care , they want to just print out a ticket and tell u to go sit down and wait for your bus to be boarded. As I'm waiting in the lobby security , greyhound personnel they were truly not helpful at all !!! Someone made a commotion where I was sitting and instead of 1st looking at the security camera / footage. They kicked out everybody that was in the section by me and they ended up kicking me out of the station until they can verify who and what , started a commotion because the individuals bus was running late . Mind you it was 4 degrees outside at the moment in downtown Chicago. So I gather my two bags and like 11 of us go outside. Waiting. We stay out there for 35 mins. I couldn't stay out there any longer so I called an Uber to get me to the nearest McDonald's so I can get something warm to drink. Long story short I'm here in the ER. I ended up getting sick , they saying I have a case of strep throat and all this could have been avoided if they just looked at their security footage to see who and what started the commotion. The collective of people they hired here at this greyhound bus station (Harrison street location ) they honestly don't care one bit about giving actual customer service , they don't care one bit about your safety and well being. Mind you this is my 1st time even considering traveling greyhound and this is the experience I gotten . Now I'm here as I write this review in the ER , been here waiting since 230pm. And it's now turning 1pm. If you are traveling greyhound I truly do not recommend going anywhere near this bus station. They just don't have one care in the world , they don't have one bit of sympathy , one bit of customer service , they just don't care. read more

Currently waiting on my shipment of 12 from San Francisco to Chicago. I shipped my items nearly 4 weeks ago now and the only tracking updates on my waybill number are from the first week. Calls to the customer support line have provided little clarity and involve explaining that my packages are currently in various locations; Pittsburgh, Denver, Albuquerque but uncertain of which ones/how many passed through each and where they are currently traveling to. I have been unable to reach the Chicago Package Express station every time I have called and every support staff that I have talked to has been unsuccessful as well (by both email and phone). Anybody's guess whether or not it I'll actually get my things and I'm just frustrated at this point. read more

Absolutely terrible experiences (multiple times!). The staff here are utterly useless and extremely rude. I can understand that if a bus is delayed and you don't have information, but the amount of rudeness exhibited by all the staff is horrible. We have gone out of here on numerous occasions and it's at the point where it's not worth the headache. Just this past Sunday my niece was traveling to Kalamazoo, MI and not only was her bus delayed but they had no information. On top of that, all incoming buses were told to go to the garage - something was up. Any time anyone asked a question the level of attitude the staff showed was appalling. Hours passed with no updates - we ended up taking her back ourselves. There are other locations in Chicago, maybe those are better. read more

This was an absolutely horrible experience. On 9/28/2020 I took the 4:00 PM Greyhound Bus from Detroit to Chicago. Detroit Greyhound Bus Terminal: Hardly anyone was wearing masks. The security guard often had his mask around his neck and not covering his face. I spotted one uniformed Greyhound employee with her mask pulled down as she walked across the terminal. Customers were walking in without their facemask or with their facemask not covering their face and the Greyhound security and employees did nothing to address this. The terminal is a cesspool and disgustingly dirty throughout. There was no concern for the safety or heath of anyone at the terminal. This behavior by Greyhound is utterly disgusting. While on the bus, I would estimate 30 to 40 percent of the riders removed their mask. The bus driver did nothing to enforce the mask issue. During the ride, there were at least three people talking extremely loud on their phones and their loud voices and phone conversations could be heard throughout the bus. The bus driver did nothing to correct this issue. One of the passengers, an African American woman, was extremely loud and used the "N" word repeatedly during her conversation. Using this word in any context is offensive, racially intolerable and inexcusable. The bus driver did nothing to remedy this situation. The fact that an employee of Greyhound would tolerate such racists behavior is appalling on so many levels. The fact that they allow such behavior promotes racism on multiple levels. The third issue was a passenger who was clearly inebriated at the Detroit terminal. He was still allowed to board this bus. During the trip he would walk up and down the aisles WITHOUT wearing his face covering and asking the driver when he could get out and smoke. Why was he allowed on the bus in the first place and what right did he have to endanger the rule abiding passengers by not wearing a mask? How could Greyhound tolerate this??? I find it appalling that Greyhound has no respect for the health or safety of their passengers, let alone the amount of disrespect they have for their rule abiding patrons. I will NEVER use Greyhound again. read more

I bought a ticket online, Greyhound cancelled the bus ride to St Louis, it's 3:55am, the bus should have departed at 1:30am, there is no information about the new departing time... I AM STUCK. I waited outside in below zero weather for 4 hours for a bus that never showed up on Christmas Eve. The app kept saying that it was at the garage and the attendant there was not helpful. Now they won't give me a refund from my trip. read more

This bus station has been relegated to the west Loop after Greyhound had its home in downtown for years. Designed by the firm Nagle, Hartray & Associates in 1989, it has a structurally muscular look thanks to its expressive roofline. read more

I used greyhound in the past and actually liked it. This time, i needed a simple name change and tried contacting greyhound customer service many times! The Trip is going from Chicago on April 1st and no one is helping me. The customer service line hung up on me twice! It wasn't even my fault- I put the correct name into the space requested but it went in under the buyers name- my name. The service line said there was "nothing they could do" and that I would have to buy another ticket for $160! This is ridiculous! I can't afford that!! read more
