I went in on a Wednesday evening and to be honest it was pretty dead. The football wasn't on (they don't have Sky). They don't serve food. However the landlord was a pleasant enough fella and the beer was decent. There's also a pool table and darts. I wouldn't go out of my way to go to The Anchor, but I'd certainly go again if I was nearby.

The problem with staff in most pubs is they are young and shy and terrified of actually comunicating with human beings. Since a pub business is based on people coming back repeatedly this creates a problem. The Anchor has cracked it, I would definately recommend quiz night on a Thursday.

Downstairs is Dannys Bar where you can have a quiet drink and play some pool during the week and listen to bands in the evenings too. Also opposite Dannys Bar is the disco where on Friday and Saturday nights you can rock out and have a few drinks until 2am, Friday is more rock and Saturdays is more indie. The club also does rock nights where a lot of heavy metal is played and you can hire the club (i did for my 18th) for a party. The club is a little dingy but clean and the regulars are nice, the bar staff are friendly and a lot of now famous bands started here i.e Oasis.

They serve food at lunchtimes and sometimes have curry nights and have a party on Halloween, Christmas eve and New Years eve with a buffet available. The pub has a pool team and poker nights, and you can play miniature football, put some tunes on the jukebox or play on the quiz machines whilst there.
