Well let's put it this way. This place was great when I was 17. Having just revisited from London recently, I can't express how much I wish I had avoided the place.
What a dive. Full of regulars that attempt to intimidate you upon arrival then look surprised when the staff are friendly to you.
Heard of a few complaints of rats, but could not BELIEVE it when I was there. The moment I stepped into the beer garden someone shouted THERE'S A RAT. When I enquired why the rat wasn't running away from us, I received a cackling 'cause it's dying!! Unbelievable, bad enough that they have a rat problem, but they don't even deal with it properly.
A patron then picked up this rat and tried to take it out the beer garden via a fire door, but wasn't let out so left it in a flower bed.
A group then when striding over and smashed the rat. They failed to kill it the first time, which was evident from the panicked squeak, so they whacked it a further six times cackling and cheering all the time. At least one of these was a member of door staff.
Apparently, if you don't shout at the top of you voice at all times, throw your weight around, or get a kick out of dying animals, you won't fit in here on a quiet night. I couldn't get out there fast enough.
I will give this place two plus points. The first is that, the gentleman who served me this evening was friendly, polite and made me feel welcome.
The second A town like Northampton needs a place where lesbian, gay, bisexual, heterosexual and transgender people can feel equal. Equality is of huge importance, and this is something that is clearly taken seriously here if nothing else. Someone somewhere really needs to invest a big sum of money in this place though, as it is really going to the rats. It would be such a pity if Northampton lost pretty much one of the only places it has where LGBTs can feel safe.
Absolutely no class. read more
