We shared a starter plate of Warm Rustic Breads, Olives, Sunblushed Tomatoes, Hummus and Baba Ganoush (£6.95) which was quite nice, but there wasn't enough bread and what there was had been sliced and then warmed so it was dry and crunchy on the outside, which wasn't nice. I followed this with Butchers Faggots on Smoked Mash, with a Sweet Red Wine and Onion Jus, Crisp Bacon and Peas (£13.95): the faggots had way too much filler and not enough meat so they were more like large dry stuffing balls, the mash was OK, although I didn't notice the smoke flavour, and the peas partially dried out but the onion gravy was sweet, but otherwise quite nice. The second main was a starter portion of a Char grilled Chicken & Bacon Caesar, Romaine Lettuce, Croutons & Anchovies (£6.95) this didn't have much Caesar dressing, too many croutons and an overriding taste of fish, perhaps because of the huge number of anchovies on the plate (see picture). Rather disappointing!

We caught a glimpse of other people's food and our low expectations were raised. My homemade soup was delicious, and were the other starters we ate. The quality of the food is certainly above average, and the rustic charm adds character to the dining experience.

We went here for an anniversary meal and absolutely loved it…read more I chose three dishes from the specials menu - scallops with pak choi, teriyaki, oyster mushrooms and sesame seeds - it was delicious. My wife chose chicken liver parfait - this was great tasting and nice and light. For main I chose Trio of White rabbit - leg with star anaise, confit wrapped in parma ham and liver all with a masala sauce and fondant potato - one of the best dishes I have tasted. for desert we shared a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream - the sauce was excellent. The meal for two with wine came to 70 which is pretty reasonable for the quality and considering the rabbit was pretty much the most expensive dish on the menu. I would happily visit this restaurant over and over again, my only disappointment might be that the rabbit is not on the menu!

This pub is an a lovely location, just off the main road in the beautiful village of Harlestone,…read morewith its gorgeous sandstone buildings and typically English charm. But this is another pub that has changed hands a few times but has yet to find its footing. The name has reverted back to The Fox and Hounds again, after a short spell as The Dusty Fox, and they have done a great job of smartening up its image to bring it up-to-date and trendy. Unfortunately, I think they have tried a bit too hard with some aspects and the food is ridiculously over-the-top 'posh nosh' at expensive prices. This has scared the locals away and probably the passing traffic like me, who wants good quality 'pub grub' and a drink after a long walk in the surrounding countryside. I went there recently looking for a light bite at lunchtime but was given a menu that was full of rich, heavy meals like duck terrine and scallops at silly prices. I was astonished and had to double check with the staff that I had the right menu. I had, and promptly turned around and out of the door. Disappointing.
