Scampi and chips
Emma D.

This place really surprised me! Not only is it in the most beautiful setting with outdoor seating by the water, the food was exceptionally good too! My parents recommended this place to me and even though they are the most amazing parents in the world and I love them dearly, I can't say I've ever trusted or had a good experience with their social recommendations before bless them. Well done though Mr and Mrs D. You definitely won this one hands down! I have memories of visiting several different pubs in Leicester growing up and eating really bad food. Looking at the menu when we arrived I shuddered because I just thought it would be more of that. I was wrong thankfully! I ordered the scampi and chips basket and my parents and partner ordered different burgers and chips. The portions were HUGE. The chips beautifully crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside without a trace of grease. Scampi was really tasty and the rest of my group were really happy with their burgers. The beer selection wasn't that great but I must remember I'm not sat in a craft beer pub in London! It was all good anyway, I had a couple of glasses of Pimms. This place on a sunny day, sitting outside near the water is the one!

A lovely place to go for a walk, plenty of areas great for a picnic while watching the barges go by. Reasonably priced parking with toilet facilities available.

A great place for a nice family walk and then dinner afterwards. We go every year when here visit our family in Market Harborough.

Nice place to go for a canalside walk. It has a small museum. Toilets avaliable. Medium sized car park. Also has a lovely little pub.

I say when the weather is nice due to it being a canal and not many boats go up and down when the weather is colder.

When we walked it, it was quite busy as a huge party was occupying a table across from us. A few other guest always dining as well. Not a big place but still very intimate and quite nice. Bar available but not sure if it's full bar. We did have a couple bottles of wine with dinner. Menu, straight to the point. Tapas and more tapas. As there was couple of us, we all chose three dishes to share. Each all looked amazing. The prawns, chorizo, mussels, meatballs, hummus, sun dried tomatoes salad, mushrooms, fried halloumi sticks, the skewers, pate, avocado toast, and croquettes. Everything was really good apart from it being slightly different from the states. The only downside, the skewer were a bit dry but presented beautifully. Everything was quite tasty and plenty to share for what we've ordered. Mussels were quite tasty in the sauce, chorizo was really good. Pate was more of sliced meat versus a spread. Service was great, staff was really friendly and chatty which was great. They ended the night for us with a little cocktail shot which was quite nice. Overall, amazing service, food was great, atmosphere was nice and friendly. Will definitely return.

Small, friendly, a nice location just off the main shopping area, reasonably priced and generous portions. The food was delicious and worth venturing over for whether you are local or not! We had crisp halloumi, spiced aubergine with minced lamb, chilli peppered squid, pork belly and chips, a lovely crisp Pinot Grigio (my friend's a white drinker) and a couple of liqueur coffees. All this for £30 a head including a tip. The staff were efficient, attentive and charming. Young and energised, I loved the way all the front of house staff presented one table with a birthday dessert and sang with evident delight to the guest. We were made to feel very welcome despite booking a late table and the arrival of a large party of blokes who'd evidently been out for a Christmas get together added to the very European feel of this little gem. The ambiance is relaxed, so good for food with friends and can be quite intimate with candles on tables and low lights. I booked the restaurant via an app on my phone (dead easy and convenient). When we arrived there, our table was ready and we received a warm welcome. The food - it was the Christmas menu this time- was tasty and well presented. The wine was very nice too! I have to say that the waitress was very nice, honest and helpful. She even went back to the kitchen to check the exact content of a dish (she did tell us before but went to check and fedback to us, very thoughtful and accurate) Special commendation for this restaurant: they have bottles of Ruinart Blanc de Blanc, my fav champagne! I didn't have any but it's a good sign to me!!

However, they miss the most important: you go to a restaurant for the quality of the food. We had to wait 45 minutes for soggy fries, over-cooked burger was so dry we struggled cutting through it, nothing left of the blue cheese in it. My dish arrived with the pulled pork looking like strings of dried meat coming out of a packet, the dish was sitting there for a while as the coleslaw had already some skin on it. When you wait that long you expect freshly cooked food not reheated food.

What can I say about the King's Arms? I'm at home here. When we moved to the UK, honestly our most…read moredesired feature was walking distance to a pub. We got stumbling distance to one of the best pubs in the country. This place is well-regarded by everyone in the region. I've met people here who give up walking distance to their local to drive here and have a good time. That says something. My first night here I made friends, and each time I've been here since I find myself in good company either with neighbors we've met before, or people who know we're new to the area and want to welcome us. I can't begin to tell you how often a quick pint before dinner turns into a long session at King's Arms. I wouldn't have it any other way. These guys truly embrace the concept of being the center of village activity. No TVs, no WiFi, these things distract from the community. You come here to interact with your friends and neighbors, enjoy a good beer, and enjoy living in the company of others. They regularly have events to bring the village out. The most impressive of which was the dinner they hosted on the night of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. They served the exact 10-course menu served in first class that evening, and requested everyone bust out their tuxedos and dresses to mark the occasion in grand fashion. It was a remarkable evening. One disappointment, since I have to list one to feel as though I am being fair, is the wine list. We love the temperanillo, but really none of the others. But we're not here to drink wine, we're here to be social! It makes me a little sad that we don't have this type of drinking culture in the US. If you're not an alcoholic, you're not likely be on a first-name basis with the bartenders at a local watering hole. That's why I love walking in here; everyone knows everyone else, they're always happy to see you, they know what you drink, they pour a tasty pint, and are genuinely good people. I dig it.
