Grey Nuns Residence is similar to a very basic hostel experience. I mean really, really basic.
We came as a 21 person group and we took up A LOT of rooms. It came out to be $94 a room which is relatively steep but, for the area, which is conveniently located, you can't get a better location.
It was a bit difficult to find your wing until we found a map which helped us get to our room. There's very little staff around other than check-in as you enter. There is a security guard with a swipe access turn style.
You have to be willing to stay with no air conditioning, unisex shared bathrooms, and just the bare minimum for room accomodations (towel, sheets and a fleece blanket). When I arrived the room wasn't made up which was a bit awkward but they came and fixed it for us. The mattress was hard and bumpy and the pillow was very flat. The bathrooms are extremely dated. The shower stalls are really narrow so if you feel claustrophobia easily, I wouldn't suggest it. Also, a bathroom stall door had fallen off and was just laying to the side of the room.
It's no frills but I will say that the shared lounge is nice with a flat screen TV and DVD player for a group to hang out in.
It was certainly okay for one night but I don't suggest an extended stay especially in the summer because it was quite humid. read more
