I called Greg's Locksmith to unlock them a Curio cabinet. When the service man called back he quoted me a price of $49 for the service call and possibly a price of $100 to unlock the cabinet. It took him not even 5minutes to unlock it. When he told me the price it was $100. $30 for service and $70 to unlock. That is a redeculous price for what he did. I didn't know it had gotten so expensive for a simple job. The serviceman was very courteous and I appreciate his timely arrival and the service he did was done quickly. I was referred to Greg's Lock & Key by the local Christian Brothers automotive. I have had two great experiences so far. The first experience was a car key replacement for a key that snapped in half on top. Greg's Lock & Key price was $10 less than Ace Hardware! Greg's Lock & Key also informed me that the problem causing the key to break and what was causing the car to have trouble starting was likely a Flange Housing issue. Sure enough, without having to make a special trip to the auto shop, Greg's Lock & Key replaced the Flange Housing a few days later and the repair was completed in less than 40 minutes! While I was there, I priced a key fob replacement, and it was 1/2 the price the dealership quoted. Greg's Lock & Key has won my business. I will definitely be back. read more

Great Service! The fob that the manufacturer sent couldn't be programmed and, instead of giving up, Chris searched for one that would work. He kept me up-to-date. Turns out that there are multiple versions, some made in Japan and some made in Mexico. He found one that worked, and at a reasonable price. The company I had used for years had run into the same problem, but simply said they didn't know what was wrong and referred me to the dealer. I was also very impressed with the atmosphere there. When the lock / unlock functions stopped working on one of the keys for my wife's 2004 Jaguar I did what most folks do, I took it to the dealership. After they checked it out I was told that the chip that controls those functions had "died" and the key need to be replaced - oh, and that will be $350.00 plus tax (labor is taxed in Kansas, but not in Missouri)! So I decided to just live with it since I rarely drive that car. A couple of months ago I found an ad on Facebook (of all places) for replacement remotes and check them out. A quick $50.00 credit card purchase and within two days I had my key. Opening the package I found that the "key" portion was actually a blank and would need to be "cut" by an "automotive locksmith." A bit of google keyboard work and I found a number of them in Kansas City. A few quick calls and Greg's Lock and Key won out with the best prices and the most friendly discussion. After cutting the key ($35.00) I programmed the lock / unlock functions with the instructions from the vendor. Then I found out that the "other chip" (the one for the ignition) also had to be programmed to the car. Since it takes special equipment I had them take care of that too ($50.00). All in all, I spent about 15 minutes there along with a total outlay of $135.00 - much less than the dealer estimate of $350.00 and not having the use of the car for a full day. Oh, and while I was there the owner of our local BMW Motorcycle Dealership stopped by to have a couple of keys cut. He told me that this was the only lock smith he uses - pretty good recommendation i think. Do I recommend Greg's Lock and Key? I do without question! read more

I went here after a bad experience with another place (on US 40 highway) that did me wrong. I called them on the phone and asked how much to make a key from a worn original that couldn't be duplicated. They gave me the options and stated it could be easy or hard, depending on the key, but to come by. When I got there they were busy, and for good reason:" they know what they are doing! After looking at the key, and doing some "research" they cut a key and it worked the first time! They were polite, professional and friendly! I had two keys made for around $30. I was even told my options and key code if I need another key if / when the new ones wear out. I will be back when I need locksmith services. they seem like good people! read more

Great place! Excellent friendly service. I live on Marshall and gladly make the drive to their store to have keys made, copied, etc. Always friendly, courteous and quick!! (Yes, I can goto places in my home town for keys) but I appreciate their service that much to make the drive! I need keys, I go here!! They were able to make keys for a trailer lock that I was told "you cant make keys for that type of lock. You'll need to replace the door locks all together." I drove all the way across town because Greg's is the local Liberty Safe dealer and I needed a power kit for my Liberty. Knowing they closed at noon, I rushed over knowing that I only had about 15 minutes to spare. Unfortunately the traffic on I435 was gridlocked due to an accident. I called Greg's to tell them that I was on my way and to please wait for me. My ETA was noon...which is closing time. I didn't get there until 5 after and they were locking up to go home. So did they go home? No! They opened the door back up for me and let me come inside. He didn't rush me at all and even took the time to show me some accessories (I needed a dehumidifying option or two). He spent time with me walking through the best way to keep your safe dry inside. He didn't try to push anything on me but took the time to educate me. This all while he needed to leave and get to a family function. This is great service! Very friendly and fast service. Had my car stolen but it was recovered and taken to the impound lot off 435 and Front St. I had to have a new key made because I did not have a spare. The only downside is they will not come out to the impound lot to do the work there so I had to have my car towed to their location. It did not cost as much as I expected though (~$80) and they can give you a number for a tow truck if you call them. I was very grateful that they could do the work that day and the service was very friendly. Every other locksmith I called was rude and had little interest in helping me get my car working again. For anybody who might have a similar experience, expect to pay $120 to get your car off the tow lot, between $65-80 to get towed to a locksmith and about $45 to get a new key made (if you are dumb and don't have a spare like me). read more

I called Greg's Lock and Key (GL&K) to come out to my residence to cut and program a transponder key for my wife's Jeep. She had lost her only key, and we assumed that it would be more convenient to have GL&K come out to the house to take care of our problem, rather than tow the Jeep to a dealership to have a new key made. A serviceman was out same day. On his way, he called to let me know he was coming, which I appreciated. He arrived on time, and immediately began working on cutting the new key. Once the new key was made, he attempted to program it to the Jeep. However, after several tries, the new key would not program. He suggested that I tow the Jeep to the dealership and give them the new key, and see if they could figure out what the problem is and maybe offer me a discount since I already had a new key. I had the Jeep towed to our local Jeep dealership, and they attempted to program the key I got from GL&K. After several attempts, they notified me that the key I received from GL&K was defective, and that was why it wasn't working. So, since I was back in my original situation, I asked the dealership to try to make a new key and see if it would program. The key that the dealership made programmed the first time, while the key I received from GL&K never worked. Today, I took the key that GL&K made me back to their office (along with my receipt) to ask for a refund. I figured that since the key never worked, and was even called "defective" by the Jeep dealership (the same dealership that GL&K recommended I take it to) that I would receive a full refund. On the day GL&K made my key at my house, I was charged $122.00 - $25 for the key, and apparently $97 for labor. I therefore felt that it would have been reasonable to expect a full refund of $122, since the key did not work, and was defective (even though it required GL&K to come to my residence). Instead, I was given a $25 refund (for the key) and was told that I would not receive the other $97 since that was for the labor. To summarize, I paid Greg's Lock and Key to drive to my house and make me a key that didn't work, and then had to go through the additional hassle of towing my vehicle to a dealership (which I guess I should have done in the first place), pay the dealership to make and program a new key, and then get refunded a measly $25 of my $122 payment to GL&K. If it would have worked, I would have been very happy with the service, as they seemed to be friendly and helpful. But after going through this, it ended up being a big, expensive waste of time. I left with the $25 feeling like I had been treated unfairly. read more
