Poor Greggs. It gets all the stick for its merely average fare. It seems that, like Subway and Starbucks, it is lumped with the preconception that as it's a chain outlet, it's actually destined to be rubbish munch. It's passable, sure; alright if you're in a rush and can't see anything more worthwhile to sink your teeth into quickly, but ultimately, there's nothing special, or exciting, or especially tasty in a Greggs.
Unlike Subway and Starbucks though, Greggs reputation in this area is largely deserved. Sure, they have the occasional inspired flavour of pasty or roll or wrap (I don't know who invented it, but my first experience of a sausage and bean pasty was here and I shall treasure that forever), but it's pretty much a boring smorgasbord of bland, uninteresting tastes. Sadly, this one doesn't do much to buck the trend.
And, on top of this, they can never get the bloody selection right. When I ask for a vegetable pasty, I don't expect to find the meager remains of some emaciated chicken looking back at me two bites in, you swines! read more
