THERE is a growing demand from consumers to know the source of their food But The Greets Inn at Warnham has taken traceability to a whole new level. When I tucked into a special of the day - natural smoked fillet of haddock florentine - I thought the duck egg which accompanied it was remarkably yellow and fine. There was more to it than met the eye. "That was laid by Matilda," Duncan Entwistle, pub landlord and owner, proudly informed me. And then he added with the same flamboyance of an expert on The Antiques Roadshow proclaiming the provenance of a long lost masterpiece: "It was laid two days ago on the third." It came from Ridge House, Warnham. Whether you are sitting in the garden on a sunny lunchtime enjoying the finely manicured lawn, or are relaxing inside the pub amongst the ancient oak beams, The Greets is something special. Underlying everything it does is a sense of passion and perfection.
