There were a few areas where I didn't want plants disturbed and they totally honored that. The price was very fair and I'm so glad I hired them for my job. I now have a beautiful vegetable garden where raccoons once roamed and rolled my lawn searching for grubs. And, p.s. communication was excellent.

We hired Lee's General Landscaping to do a total yard cleanup + clear a bunch of plants and…read moreinvasive species from our perimeter, then add medium bark to suppress regrowth. Our assigned estimator Kimball came by for the initial walk through on July 3rd. We walked the property and I pointed out areas that we wanted cleared and bark added to suppress new growth. He left us with a video of him walking the property and shortly thereafter we had an estimate. My wife and I reviewed it, and wanted to see what it would cost to add landscaping fabric and rocks to some of the areas on the initial estimate. I responded to Kimball and he asked for a Google image of the home with the areas we wanted the work done marked. I then sent him the requested materials via a color coded aerial image. Kimball then asked to come out for a second look to make sure his measurements were correct. I was unable to accompany him for that walk, but he did do the checkup. We had a second open ended estimate shortly thereafter showing what the added rocks and fabric would run per square yard. We then decided on just doing bark (simplest install) - no landscaping fabric or rocks, but in all of the same areas marked on the aerial photo. To be doubly safe, I sent him a second aerial photo marking where we wanted the bark. Kimball's final estimate included a breakdown of what 4 yards, 6 yards, 8 yards or 10 yards bark would cost to procure and install. He told me that they would start at 6 yards with our property per his assessment, and if more were needed, they would request the additional amount day of the job. 7/25/26. The day of the job. Lee's arrived, I walked the grounds with the foreman and they got to work. Late in the day, I got a call from Kimball saying that the 6 cubic yards of bark he'd ordered wasn't enough to cover everything and that they needed another 2 cubic yards to the tune of several hundred dollars to complete all areas we wanted covered. I agreed to the up charge and Lee's crew completed the job. About 10 days went by, and our very nice looking yard started to sprout weeds all over the place. Naturally, I was expecting to see obvious weed growth here and there pop up, but this seemed like a lot. Regardless, I got to work pulling the weeds every 3-4 days or so, added some more bagged bark I purchased from Carpenitos here and there, and as I tackled each section of the yard on various days. Then, they exploded. By the 6th week, we were overrun and I couldn't keep up. I did some checking, and found that for successful weed suppression, you need at least 3-4 inches of bark coverage to prevent light from reaching the newly cleared topsoil. Lee's quote stated they they lay down "at least 2-3 inches" of bark - not the gold standard 3-4 inches, but fairly adequate. So, I got out there with a yardstick and started measuring. Low and behold, most of the front and back yard had as little as 1/2 an inch to 1.5 inches bark coverage. The areas I'd hit with bags as I weeded were barely pushing 2 inches, which means they too were initially VERY thin. I then photo'd the explosion of overgrowth and sent it to Lee's general email with a concerned message attached. Kimball replied to the message, but he refused to acknowledge any error had been made on his part or Lees in terms of the estimated coverage vs. completed work. Ultimately, he refused to remedy the situation without charging us thousands of dollars more. We went back and forth multiple times via email, and he would not budge - not even to cover labor only to rake back, and remove the overgrowth. He also refused to connect me to a senior manager or owner - eg: a 3rd party in the company whom could objectively review the situation, stating that he was a manager and partial owner and in charge of our estimate. We were charged over $3200.00 after tax for the job. It will likely cost us thousands of additional dollars to remedy the overgrowth resultant of Lee's error, and for which they refuse to acknowledge or accept responsibility. I'm personally kinda shocked considering their reputation and long standing place in the community. We used their services for lawn mowing and occasional yard work in Seattle many years ago without issue. My how times have changed.

It's my favorite picture of me with the Space Needle. We got a discount by buying the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass ticket together right before we entered the Space Needle. We saved $21 by buying them together. It's $40 to get in by its self. It was a deal we couldn't pass up and we really wanted to see both of them. In order to enter you need to scan your ticket and the gate will open for you. If you are scanning in multiple people it's best if they go in first and you keep scanning the tickets till all the people enter and then enter yourself. Once you enter to the right is the clear glass exhibit. It looks like ice spears. It looked like it would kill you if you fell on it. The next room has glass bowls and such and a wall of tapestries. It makes the best background for selfies. The third room is the icon multiple glass sculpture. Everyone is trying to get a picture of it as it's the main attraction. I took some great selfies with it. My favorite part of the show was the garden. There you can take pictures of the glass with the Space Needle in the background.

After their initial work in early March, a planter bed removal, grass seeding on a small patch,…read morearborvitae planting, I called them again. I had paid $650 in March. The grass didn't take at all and 2 of the 3 arborvitae died (despite same level of watering and light exposure). I chalked it down to weather etc. and requested their services to redo the grass and some weeding, clean-up. They came by and quoted $800 on the cheap end (re-seeding) and $1200 to remove the old grass and plant new one. I told them it was too expensive and pointed out what hadn't worked from their earlier work and I was having to redo. They just shrugged and tried to say things like because of watering etc. but it didn't make sense. Disappointing for them to not take any responsibility and quote even higher prices. The search for a good yard service continues.

Reservations are available 15 days in advance. I'd highly recommend that you reserve tickets when they are first made available. We planned a trip out on the Bainbridge Ferry the day we had The Spheres reservations. I definitely don't recommend doing that. The ferry was delayed and we wound up getting to The Spheres 25 minutes after our reservation time. Thankfully, they let us in without really mentioning the time. They request that each guest stay in the building for at most an hour to accommodate the constant flow of guests. The Spheres is a 4 level botanical garden. It was designed to replicate a cloud forest in order to host thousands of tropical and subtropical plants. There were a lot of interesting things that I had never seen elsewhere including spiky-leaf plants (Bigonia xerox), a palm with bright orange stalks with small green fruit that look like capers (Pacaya Palm), and a cone-shaped, bright orange flower that looked unreal (Guzmania conifers). There were also exhibits with amphibians or tropical fish. There's a cafe on the second floor called General Porpoise and gender neutral bathrooms on every floor. A few stations have experiments for kids to interact with or poster boards to read. Because they restrict the guests, it's not too crowded. There is a ton of things to look at and photograph. The amount of people make it so you can get the perfect shot if you are willing to wait a little. It's a must see building and worth the time planning ahead for. How lucky were we to see on Facebook that the Amazon Spheres would be open the day we arrived in…read moreSeattle. We were completely blown away by what we saw when we arrived at our appointed time to visit. The Spheres comprises a trio on connected glass domes, located in the center of Amazon-occupied office towers in Downtown Seattle. The Spheres opened in 2018 by Jeff Bezos for his employees. They are only open to the public for free on two Saturdays of each month. The structure was designed by American architecture firm NBBJ. They serve as an employee lounge and workspace. The Spheres are a fully functioning, self-contained ecosystem - a greenhouse with more than 40,000 different varieties of plants from all over the world. It is built on a concrete foundation, using 620 tons of steel. The structures are connected in an open-plan indoor area filled with numerous exotic plants. The most striking feature inside the Amazon Spheres is a 4,000 square foot Canyon Living Wall. It stands 62 feet tall and 50 feet wide. A path winds up four stories across a suspension bridge to a Bird's Nest meeting area. During the day the temperature inside is in the mid 70's with 60% humidity. At night, it drops to 55 degrees with 85% humidity. The highest of the three Amazon Spheres is 90-meters tall. The catalans at the Amazon Spheres contain an incredible 2,643 panels of glass, making the whole structure visible from the outside thus, creating a clear view on the inside. There's also a cafe with treats and coffee. They also offer free tours. We found The Spheres to be a serene and comforting place to visit. The place was amazing!

I also didn't have a review for the place previously which over time kind of convinced myself I never came here before. Even after exploring around I didn't really remember anything from before. So regardless if this is my first time or a refresher visit I paid a visit here recently. There is no entrance fee but there is a suggested donation. The little shop here is cute! There are several different sectors to these botanical gardens. Probably my favorite was one area with a lot of plants in bloom. Another area was a bit more wild and took me to a suspension foot bridge. I went across the bridge twice but kind of got a touch of vertigo as it is kind of high and the bridge wobbles a little as you walk. It's perfectly safe... it's just me and having a fear of heights. There are pleasant and tranquil water features as you wonder around and there was one with a pond with koi that I got in a short video. These gardens are very nice to kind of "get lost" in as you bond with nature and hopefully have a bit of peace with your thoughts from everyday life at least for a little while.

If you want to see a good view of Seattle, check out the Volunteer Park Water Tower's observation deck in the southeast corner of Volunteer Park right on top of Capitol Hill. There's no elevator so be prepared to climb the 107 stairs to the top and be rewarded with 360-degree view of Seattle! There are bars and fencing at the windows though, which does detract a little from the experience. Between the windows are informational signs about Seattle's history. I'll be back to check out the art museum and the conservatory in the future!
