Screaming, shrieking children. See the dog, too?
Katherine C.

The food here was 5 stars and the dining ambiance is negative stars. We arrived in late afternoon and we were promptly seated in an elevated area of the bar. There were two other tables and a row of tables along the window. One had two gals enjoying drinks and another had 3 adults and a screaming toddler banging a plastic boat on the table. The screaming toddler party was paying their bill so we thought it would be ok to stay there since they were leaving. Wrong. We ordered our food, fish and chips and Sunday roast dinner of strip beef. The food arrived in a timely fashion and was hot. The chips were well seasoned and probably the best I've had. The Sunday roast was tasty and included all the proper sides. However, while we waited for the food a party of six came in and sat underneath the stairs at a table behind us: 4 adults and two toddlers and a portly French bulldog. They parked their two huge strollers and sat the toddlers in high chairs and the table top was immediately littered with plastic toys. The toddlers were shrieking when they were not getting what they wanted, screaming and crawling out of their chairs and running around. One mom ended up rolling around on the floor with her toddler, trying to trap him and put him back in the high chair. The dog was off leash and wandering around under the tables and sniffing people's legs. I had to shoo it away. A waiter brought a drink to their table and one toddler threw a black plastic toy at the waiter and hit him. The two women at another table picked up their drinks and left, and a group of 5 adults sat down at the tables along the windows for about 30 seconds and then left. We finished our meals and skipped the sticky toffee pudding because of the disruptive clown show going on behind us. The screaming and shrieking went on and was accompanied by the bartender working out her micro aggressions by throwing empty liquor bottles into a bin of empty liquor bottles causing a continuous, jarring, ear piercing sound for my ear holes and eating dis enjoyment. If this blood pressure raising environment is for you, it would be worth it to eat here.

Despite the fact that I was rather pressed for time, I still managed to pop in here for a drink before my train arrived at the nearby station. It was a rather charming pub, which at this stage is actually located on the fringes of London. It isn't a particularly huge pub mind you, but it does have a reasonably decent range of beers. However, as I mentioned, I really didn't have all that much time to spend here before I had to shoot off, so I have to say that I can't actually remember all that much.

The great veggie bean burger. Go veggie !!

I visited this venue to regain the energy lost on this very cold winter day. The pub is literally at the main gate to Greenwich Park slightly further away from Cutty Sark so it's less busy than otherwise fully packed establishments closer to the station and around Greenwich Market. Basically it's a slightly hip pub that tries to establish itself as a more refined place. You can see it on the menu prices where a typical meal and drink will set you apart with amount close to mid range restaurant. The good things: the staff is really friendly and nice, always smiling. The music: britpop from 90s and some indie from 00s creates a nice atmosphere. IT'S NOT TOO LOUD :) you can work from here if you like. There is a decent WiFI. The food arrived pretty quickly. I ordered a bean burger with guacamole. It was ok but was expecting slightly higher quality given the price. You know what I mean: stony chips and cracking bean burger crust could be forgiven in Weatherspoon but not here. So that was a mild disappointment. However I can't complain too much. Oasis is playing and it all makes up for it :) The location as well. Verdict: perfect to Work from Park. Otherwise get the food from somewhere nearby!

This is a nice pub to have a bite to eat in Greenwich after you visit the Prime Meridian. Order at the bar and get your drinks then sit wherever there is space. We were able to have a table outside on a sunny day. They have standard pub fare. The fish & chips were good as were the lamb chops. Nice atmosphere to have a relaxed meal.

Good beer choice and food choice!

Good choice of beer and nice food selection . Good for families ! Not sure why it got low stars ?

We stopped here for lunch. Quiet pub. Very average. The chicken & leek pot pie was very good. Excellent selection of drinks.

The missus, guided me here after our visit to the Meridian. I was more than happy. We had to wait outside in London, so I was very cold when we boarded our boat/ship, to travel on the Thymes, to Greenwich. She was so sweet and surprised me, with a nice glass of bourbon, while on the boat, and I had treated myself to a second, because I had no idea that we would be walking so far. We were there in a spring, that was later to be declared, one of the coldest, wettest springs, they've had in forty years. And, when I thought we were at the Meridian Line, I found out we had to walk through a park and up a freakin' mountain. Anyway, thank God, this pub is at the main exit from Greenwich Park slightly further away from Cutty Sark and other packed pubs, closer to the station and around Greenwich Market. Sitting on a nice comfy couch, with a proper pint was heaven. Only issue we had, was when she ordered our pints, mine a full, hers a half, he gave her a full pint. She politely mentioned, that she asked for a half pint, the pub keeper, just snatched up her money, and ignored her. Not a good idea, as she grew up in S. W. London (Balham). If I ever have to go up that hill again, I would definitely drop in, but I'll do the pint order : )

The driest burger I ever had...

While you can hang out in the crowd and grab a pint easily without that, if you want to dine in the quieter dining area with views of the water you may want to do so as well. Especially if you want the elbow room to enjoy such great food. The Mayflower is named after the famous ship carrying the early American settlers, and the church tied to this voyage is steps away where apparently an unmarked grave hosts the resting spot of the captain of that ship. It's candlelit and kind of romantic on the top floor with great views. For food, my wife had the chicken pie and I had the special of the day, lamb stew with housemade potato salad. It was warm, flavorful and delicious, sentiments my wife shared on the pot pie. We split an order of mac and cheese, and it was also delicious. Such great comfort food. I had a small scotch pour and an ale, my wife a glass of wine. I had a small port to pair with the sticky toffee pudding at the end which was terrific. My wife swears by Gordon Ramsey's recipe of the same but this one was hard to beat IMO.

The beer was good and so were our dishes- my wife got the roast and I got the fish and chips which were both exceptional! Service was quick and to the point.

We ordered onion rings to start, the breading on them was amazing! It was light and crispy as opposed to being heavy and greasy like a lot of onion rings. I also loved the curry ketchup that came with them. I'm not generally a curry fan, but it definitely worked with this dish. My husband got fish and chips. The fish was perfectly fried and the tarter sauce was obviously house made because it tasted very fresh and lemony. The chips were fine, but unremarkable in my opinion. For my meal, I ordered pumpkin walnut gnocchi. It was delicious! Just enough pumpkin without being overpowering. There was quite a bit of kale (I think it was kale, the menu didn't say) that came with the dish. It was very good, but probably could have been dialed back a little. The service was friendly and prompt. Definitely a great way to start our London vacation!

The establishment has a nice mixture of cozy and airy, which was perfect for a lazy(ish) Sunday. I hate to use this word, but I'll use it anyway (because I can't think of a better descriptor): the service here is "super" friendly, and very knowledgeable, particularly regarding the ales on tap. The barkeep gave us a few sample pours without waiting for us to ask, which we greatly appreciated. Because of that, we were more than happy with the pints we ordered. Moving on to the food: the roasts were delicious, in particular the pork loin, which was moist and flavorful. I enjoyed my roast beef as well. The Yorkshire pudding was wonderful and I might have been just as happy eating that alone for my meal, to be honest. The pub is in walking distance of the touristy areas of Greenwich, so it's easy enough to put some good food in your belly and continue on to your sightseeing, afterward.
