She had Mrs Kelly pat year and I honestly cannot say good enough things about this woman, she was not only a wonderful teacher to my daughter but she sent us photos and videos almost everyday to keep us parents updated with everything going on in class. At dismissal she would always pull me aside to tell me anything that happened with my daughter throughout the day. She would said "it's nothing bad I just thought u would want to know..." she is so kind and nurturing to all the children in her class which was 16:1 with two teachers aids. I don't believe they make teachers like this anymore, she was just beyond wonderful to my daughter and really put my mind at ease knowing she was in good hands with Mrs Kelly! This year for kindergarten my daughter has Mrs Grassi. She is so great as well! She really pushes the kids to be independent and strong minded. She is tough in a sense, she likes things done in a certain way and has high expectations of the children which I like because it keeps my daughter motivated to do more and achieve more. She gives out a good amount of homework & if the child misses a day of school she sends them home the missed class work to be done at the earliest convenience so they don't completely miss out. Mrs Grassi as well as Mrs Kelly also sends us photos and weekly updates/work plans for the kids to our parent portal which I enjoy because I always know what the kids are doing and what to expect in the coming week. So far I've had a very happy experience with this school and these teachers.

The school's campus is intentionally unassuming and most importantly, my children wake up excited to go there each day. The Montessori Children's House may be Whitby's crown jewel - from the moment my children enrolled (at around 2 years old) their worlds expanded, as they were offered control of choices that as parents we don't consistently have time to give them at home. From their toddler years and now on to pre-school and Kindergarten, I've had the joy of watching this newfound independence grow. Our family is excited for Whitby's bright future and our children's place in it.

We've had our daughter in HCC since Oct 2011 and we could not be happier. When she enrolled last…read moreautumn, she had just turned 3, was still in pull-ups and had been pulled out of a Manhattan Montessori pre-k because in my husband's and my opinion, there was no progression or growth. In just 2 weeks at Harrison Children's Center, she was potty trained and by the end of that first month her vocabulary had trebled and continues to do so. The teachers, TAs and office staff could not have been more wonderful and supportive of my daughter and me during our transition from city to suburban life. In addition to a great nurturing environment, my daughter benefited from a curriculum and staff that really challenged and stretched her developing mind and growing set of social and life skills. The staff arranges class trips and family nights and the children go out for daily walks and there is outside play in their fenced-in and fully supervised playground almost everyday except in bad / rainy weather. The school serves cold breakfasts and hot lunches prepared by an in-house cook. My daughter has learned art, science, music, sign language and so much more. It's been a year now and I can honestly say that I have absolute trust in these people with the most precious person in my life. There is nothing bad to be said about this program or the fantastic team of people who work in making it all happen. Kudos to Debbie Imperia, the Director of HCC for her unflagging support for this mom with a daughter who manages to delight those around her even while trying their patience! And a special shout-out must go to Kamala Carducci for calming my fears, taking my (many) calls and showing me the ropes of suburban daycare.

Our experience at Friends couldn't have been more wonderful. All of the teachers are kind, warm and nurturing. It's like handing your kids over to family. The 2's program is the perfect introduction to school for toddlers, the 3's is a great continuation of all the social and life skills being taught, and the 4's curriculum emphasizes preparing for kindergarten in an organic and age-appropriate way. In addition, because the school is so small, there's a real sense of community among the parents. We've made lifelong friends at Friends - the school really lives up to its name!

I spoke with Margie, in charge of Alumni Connections who told me to call back on Friday when she would have more time to speak with me and handle my issue. I remember feeling as if it can be handled right then and there when I explained it to her, and it wasn't so complicated. In fact the whole thing would have taken all but three minutes no matter how we resolved it. I left not one but two voice messages for her on that Friday at her request and she never called back. This was two weeks ago yesterday. I do not think she forgot and I don't think she is that busy. If she forgot to call back or didn't have time, then she can't handle her job very well. I feel as if it was done purposely though. If she does not want or is unable to cater to someone, there are more professional ways of handling it than telling a person to call in order not to call. I was surprised to see that such a fine institution as Hackley, hires staff that do not represent the extraordinary excellence they pride everyone else in their school in having; teachers, students and families. I think Hackley should have higher standards when screening out for certain roles such as Director of Alumni Engagement to better set an example for their students on how to interact with people.
