I have been reading and leaving reviews on Yelp for several years, actually, this is my 200th review (maybe I have too much time on my hands). In all of this time I never thought to check the reviews for EHS.
I had a very positive experience at EHS. If I could leave 6 stars, I would. What can you say about a place that literally changed your life? I went to Eagle Hill in Greenwich from 1984 to 1987. While today it may be somewhat stylish to have a learning difference, when I was diagnosed in 1983, this was not the case. Being put in a "special school" was viewed by some as a bit extreme. The public mindset was very different back then...this was before Theo Cosby was diagnosed. Needless to say, my folks were concerned and not sure what this would mean for my future.
My parents took me out of public school after repeating kindergarten and somehow pulled together the money to send me to Eagle Hill for four years. I think in 1984, my first year, the tuition was a little over 14k a year. So basically my folks had to pay for college twice. I'm very lucky that they could afford the tuition because when I left EHS, at the end of 4th grade, I was in a much better place. I can't say enough about the teachers and administration. In some of my classes, I was the only student. In most of my classes there were just a few other kids. Needless to say, this kind of individual attention is unheard of at most schools.
In 2003 I graduated from law school. It is hard for me to express how important Eagle Hill was for me at the time and how pivotal it proved to be in my life. I will always be very grateful to the teachers, many of whom are still there, especially Maureen Dumser and the Griffins.
And since this is Yelp, if you want a good slice, Glenville Pizzeria is up the street. I have a vivid memory of being there as a kid, drinking "New Coke" for the first time while Van Halen "Jump" was blasting from one of those huge boom boxes. I miss the 80s. read more
