I thought highly of this school because the teachers were kind and preparing. However, during my…read morerecent visit, I noticed significant issues. Many students were cheating, and they unfairly blamed hardworking students' poor scores for laziness. The curriculum didn't prepare students for the SAT/ACT, resulting in low scores, and had unrealistic course loads. It should follow regents and college exam guidelines rather than being determined by individual teacher preferences. There were also issues with egoism, xenophobia, transphobia, racism, and harassment that weren't properly addressed. Teachers' low pay led to hiring problems and part-time jobs, reducing their ability to care for students. Given the high tuition fees we pay, teachers need better pay, especially during a teacher shortage. To maintain the school's historic success, significant changes are needed. Otherwise, as an alumnus who speaks with many parents that graduated from here, we will not send our kids here for failure.

The school is phenomenal and offers a comprehensive liberal arts education, as well as countless extra curricular activities and many sports opportunities. Quite a few of the teachers have PhD's in their disciplines. The beautiful campus setting is in a category of its own! The big downside is the sky high tuition rate! As of today it's close to that of IVY league schools. If you can manage it, it's one of the greatest gifts that you can give to your children.

Also, I recommend investing in a good computer scanner and lots of folders to stay organized for both academic as well as extracurricular ventures. This might be a little extreme, but retain the number of a reliable car service and carry emergency cab money on hand for safety's sake. Like the other reviewers, yes be careful of the students from DeWitt Clinton High School. They were never friendly and often acted in a hostile/threatening fashion whenever they encountered Bronx Science kids. I can't tell you how many times we had to deal with their racial slurs (because a majority of the student population come from an Asian-American background) and hatefulness.

Coming here was an interesting experience because although there were cliques and hierarchies, everyone was pretty smart and pretty focused on what they wanted to do with themselves. The only thing you had to watch out for were the creeps from DeWitt Clinton coming over and making a ruckus. I also remember Mr. Krutoy miming a worm on his desk, sitting outside in the hallways between classes listening to music with my bff (we lost touch when I left the country), skipping class in the nurses office and my first HS crush. The reason why this place get's an AOK was because the student body opted for using additional funds for a mural in the main lobby instead of renovating the gym and possibly getting a pool. This is his last year, In the last several months the school has had 3 acting principles. Back in the days, this was a great high school. It seems to be falling by the waist side. Now, I find out from my son that the school has been taken over by the state.

They charged $5 for adults to see their kid swim and doesn't not guarantee seating! Although I understand they trying to make money for the school, that's a shame. Not only did they charge entrance to a completely packed swim seated area, where people were standing or had to sit on the floor but then they made more money from charging snacks. Also they charge different entrance fee for different days. My husband took my son during the week and he was charged $2 and I went Sunday for $5. I'm sure the school is great but from a parent that just want to see their child compete i found it crazy to pay and have to stand the whole 4 hours.
