Ski Masters Ski & Snowboard School

I went through Ski Masters ski school back in the mid to late 70's.... By far the BEST times of my…read morelife!! Instructors I had were professional and KNEW how to effectively train and communicate with their groups. I ALWAYS felt safe and beyond well cared for!! I even remember my FAVORITE instructors name 45+ years later!!! (Gary Gunther). I've sent our kids, and all my friends have sent theirs on my recommendation... and they have somehow continued excelling!! If you are looking for a SAFE, effective and challenging environment for you or your children this is by far the PREMIER ski school of PNW. Myself and many of my peers went on to become successful downhill racers and we all attribute our successes and medal counts to the foundation Ski Masters provides!

I learned how to ski through Ski Masters at age 5. I was in adventure classes, racing, and ended up…read moreski instructing with them through my teenage years. My mom and brother also instructed with them~ That really says it all! The instructors are incredible, management is very involved and approachable. I took lessons from individuals I later had the honor of working alongside with. Ski Masters is a personable, community centered ski school that I highly suggest to anyone of every knowledge level of snow sports. They have played a major role in why I am in my chosen career path today and has provided me with an incredible amount of personal and experiential growth. I cannot thank their program enough for all they have taught me and the memories I have shared with influential students and staff!

I took my two children here and it is just wonderful. I had Kincaid as my daughter's ski instructor…read moreand he wonderful, he was extremely patient with my children helping them figure out the basics! Definitely will be coming back, Thank you.

Both our kids have taken more than 5 classes here. Being probably the only one offering indoor ski…read morelessons, their calendars do fill up quickly and its $45-60 for 20 mins. Heres some suggestions i think they can do better: 1) dont put classes back to back. Allot for at least 5 mins in between as theres always student whose class gets shortened one way or another. 2) allocate the same teacher for a day / time slot / ramp - this is i believe is their biggest issue. There is NO consistency on teachers and teaching style. Its only 20 mins of class, in the 10+ classes we only had 1 teacher that repeated. Except for "pizza" and "french fries", They all use different languages and approach that can confuse kids, especially younger ones. So it feels like a whole relearning the first half of the class. 3) have a way to track student progress or know skillset before class. They barely ask what the student can do, how many classes they had or what to work on. It just wastes a lot of precious minutes to figure it out. 4) dont put beginners in ramp 3. Its smaller, shorter and just makes it more difficult. 5) factor in breaks for teachers and ask them not to use phones during class. Consider time for bio breaks or lunch and imagine how thats done w back to back classes. One of our kids teachers was so distracted w pizza coming, he kept checking his phone and looking at the staff area where food was. And because we document our kids progress, we even have that on video! While there are some really good teachers like David, Ryan or Karla, its really a hit or miss for others. You cannot request a teacher or know who you are gonna get even if you book the same day, time and ramp for weeks even months before. We come back because they are the only ones doing it. But really hope they can work on a couple of areas to make it a better experience for all.

Our family already invested in season passes, rentals, and it's unknown if we'll get a refund for the registration fees for our concurrent adult and child lessons. Now we're out the cost of equipment rental and season passes and still are unable to get into a ski school :( Don't sign up for Mohan even if you see 500/500 spots available. Just move on to another ski school.

I had to stop but promised myself I would eventually teach again. That was my starting journey with Mohan. Yeas later when my kids were in Middle and High school, the school participated in the Friday night Mohan bus program. I chaperoned the ski bus for 8 years and as soon as my kids were out of HS, I started teaching. What was the draw to Mohan? They really care. Now some of the issues identified here were out of their control, some were in their control and have been addressed. We strive to ensure our students, young and old, have a great experience with Mohan. You have to understand how hard it is to staff 120+ instructors for a 1 month training and 2 month instruction season. Last year I could not teach because of a pinched nerve in my back. It was like not being able to see my closest friends, really family, for a year. Today was the first clinic for instructors for the 24-25 season and it was like coming home. So while we have issues, like other business, we strive for an exceptional experience for our Mohan family and our students. Every year we have students from other ski schools join the Mohan family. Some even become assistants and then instructors. We have multigenerational families that have been with Mohan as instructors and students. We have a lodge on the hill, Pot luck Saturday dinners, HS age instructors can spend Saturday night at the lodge. Each young instructor has a chore in the morning, so we are instilling responsibility and accountability. Come join our family as a student or instructor, I promise you it's a life changing experience you'll never forget.
