I 5 does an amazing job . Both of our kids attended the maple valley location. Laura one of the instructors is truly amazing. She genuinely cares about the kids and takes the time to get to know them. We have been very pleased and our kids were taught to drive safely and carefully. Ryan the owner is very nice and helpful. Refresher class is a waste of money. I already know how to drive but I did the "refresher" class hoping I would get some pointers before I do the actual driving test. During my "refresher" drive, the instructor just told me to drive and she didn't even say anything that I need to pay more attention to. It was just a few minutes drive for NOTHING! Don't do the refresher class. It's total waste of my $80. You would not learn a thing! read more

Competitively priced, very clear about the rules and expectations of what's needed by both student and parent. My son missed classes and a drive and they've been very communicative about him needing to make things up. My son likes the majority of the teachers in the car and hasn't complained (too much, he is a teenage boy, so...). Overall please, we'd use them for my other kiddos. read more

*DRIVER/BUYER BEWARE* .... After 3 of 5 weeks into class & 1 instructor drive later, our daughter went on her 2nd instructors drive with 2 extra observers. We weren't asked, informed or even made aware prior (parent mtg, contract, website, booklet, handouts etc) that having 1 let alone 2 extra observers is OPTIONAL for scheduled instructor drives. *Called 911 Driving School -AWESOME- owner informed me upfront optional after 1st observation drive* I'm sure some kids don't mind an audience while learning a challenging skill & 1 observation drive is DMV required. Our child had a nerve racking and frustrating drive due to the "2" optional observers which impacted her ability to make the most of HER drive (paid & included) with a unnecessary missed opportunity. Spoke to the front staff, unable to help, but complimented & thanked them. Spoke to the owner inquiring "if"she could redo that drive. I was told that wouldn't be accommodated since it's up to the teenager to say something. The receptionist I spoke to earlier, unbeknownst to the owner, revealed that she was told to "push as many extra observers on drives as possible because they were backed up." I tried explaining I didn't think that was fair at our daughter's expense not having all the facts upfront to have made an informed decision. I was told defensively with a frustrated and accusatory tone it was my 16yo's responsibility to speak up even though 2 observers had already been booked, showed up for her drive and understandably can't cancel less than 24hrs. The owner/her instructor proceeded to argue with me, twist & put words in my mouth while making ignorant accusations about our daughter which he conveniently never addressed (after teaching her 3 days a week for 3 weeks) until THIS conversation. When it seemed like the conversation wasn't going his way, he dismissively asked if my child should "wait" and take the class at another time because she's quiet in class & was nervous on her 2nd drive with 2 extra observers. I didn't think that those were disqualifiers especially 2/3 through the class with no mention of it prior. Ryan then disrespectfully & rudely informed me he will disenroll my child from the class, no lie ... hung up on me with no explanation. He lacked true understanding, humility, integrity, and the willingness to listen & communicate respectfully. Not giving us a make up drive is one thing but what followed was unnecessary and uncalled for ... again at my daughters expense. His reaction was ugly, sad & a scary reflection on many levels of the kind of business owner/instructor he chose be. read more

Best one ever! They are affordable and the instructor I worked with was awesome! I only took the driving test there, but he made me feel like I have been learning how to drive with him this whole time. I forgot his name, but he was really tall and had awesome facial hair! Before the test he reminded me of a few things to look out for while I'm driving so I don't lose any points for stupid mistakes and he was very calm and supportive throughout the whole test. I would take the test over there again if I ever had to. They are 5 steps up from North Star. I-5 Driving School provided my son a great learning experience! At first he was dreading the idea of more "school" during the summer break, but the feeling quickly went away. He found all the instructors enjoyable to. They made the course content interesting and fun. Also, I was impressed by the ease of rescheduling missed class and drive sessions. Both of our daughters, now aged 20 and 16, went through I-5. I am actually comfortable with either of them behind the wheel day or night, empty roads or heavy traffic, with or without me in the car. The girls both actually enjoyed the classes and the driving times were clearly very helpful. Of course, they both passed their exams without issue. But, more importantly, they are both really good drivers. I give I-5 the unequivocal 2-thumbs up. They are fantastic! read more

My husband was scheduled to come and take his driving test which was scheduled two weeks out and he happened to call the day before to confirm and he wasn't even scheduled. Talking with the scheduler she lied and said that my husband was cussing her out and that wasn't the case. He was mad because he needed this done to start working. He might of said a few words but they weren't directed at the scheduler. My husband called back to talk with someone else and they acted like they were going to callback and see what could be done. We decided to go up to the Federal Way location which we did to check their schedule and when we get there they said he was BANNED and he would have to find another driving school. I sat in the car and called to talk to someone and a girl named Rachel answered and as I was talking and still trying to ask questions she told me to HAVE A NICE DAY and hung up in my face. When I called back they blocked my number but I hid my number and called back. Of course Rachel wasn't available so I let them know I wanted to speak with a manager or supervisor and of course they weren't available either. I left my information and I'm waiting for a callback. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!! I will not be silenced and will talk to someone. I-5 Driving School will have a conversation with me. read more

We wish to share our experience in working with the I-5 Driving School to other parents who are not only concerned about getting a quality driving education for their first child but also to establish a positive lifelong learning experience with the institution for their future driver education needs. We enrolled our oldest child (16 yo) in the teen class at one of the driver training schools in town. The reason for this choice was because it was located near our home. The 30-hrs class itself was fine and so were the 6-hrs road training plus 1 hr of observation. However, my child was consistently reminded during drive sessions that he could and should go a bit faster above the speed limit, i.e., 28-29 mph in a 25 mph zone but not slower than the limit to avoid folks tailgating him. After having attained nearly 50 additional hours of driving with me, he then took his first road test with the school & applied the " a bit faster" practice to the test which failed him for not observing the posted speed limit despite having attained a mid 80% score on other criteria in the test. Needless to say, we were very disappointed, especially at the end of the test, he was not briefed with details on the scoring, what he did wrong, nor how he could do better. He was given the scoring sheet and told he exceeded legal speed limit, need to do some more practice, and schedule another road test. We then decided to look for "a second opinion" test center for his second try. Our search came upon the I-5 Driving school which immediately interested us with the school's mission and the story of the founders that started I-5 Driving School. We contacted this school yesterday and our call was answered in less than 3-rings! We then was hosted by a gentleman, with first name Nick, who patiently explained to us about the test, the student's needed preparations, and what we should expect when the road test conclude. Due to our son' swim meet schedules, Nick was extremely patient in looking for an appointment/location that worked for us and it was at another location 34-miles away. An appointment was made for the next day and no payment ($35 road test fee) was even necessary! This I-5 Driving School's was so professional and they treated us with trust, fairness, and respect. At the other school, we had to call, left a voice message, then waited for their call back a day later. Once a test was scheduled, we were asked to make payment immediately ($49.95) and there would not be a refund if for some reasons we have to change the appointment in less than 48-hrs. On the test day with I-5 Driving's, we showed up 15-minutes early and we were greeted very warmly by the front desk lady with the name Brandy. She was very polite, gentle, and poised in interacting with us especially she knew how to make my child at ease and in a stress-reduced manner. Brandy then introduced us to the examiner, Sarah, who in a very calming and pleasant manner walked us through the test procedures and even gave us some quick refresh of hand signals and basic rules of the roads to make our son at ease. My son then took the road test and walked in the door after 25 minutes later with a broadly smile and a confident nod that he has earned 83% score and PASSED the road test! I-5 Driving School's service did not just ended there: Both Sarah and Brandy shared notes and spent the next 20 minutes to explain in details what our son did right, wrong, and what could be improved for even safer and COLLISION-FREE driving. We then learned that Brandy is one of the owners of the school. That explained why she was so passionate about helping us in making sure our son get properly trained and become legally qualified to drive. It was a very positive experience for us; we were very delighted and so gratified that we made the right choice in taking the road test here with I-5 Driving School's Mapple Valley branch. We only wished that we had taken our son here for the teen driving class. But at least now we know where to go to, and refer our friends and neighbors to, for the critical driver education & tests, especially for our other 2 kids. We share our experiences herein, with I-5 Driving School, as an input to other parents in their looking for the right institution to rely on to develop their teenage children to become safe drivers. This is my first time providing rating ever in my life. This place is the most unprofessional business ever you will find. I stop by at the maple valley location to book driving classes, the front desk personal takes all the information and schedules the first driving class. We wait for the day and hear nothing back from anyone, when we call back seeking the reason they mention sorry there was a confusion and the system shows the actual appointment is next month. Then after all the confusion gets resolved they schedule a different appointment and when the day finally arrives this time the excuse they have is sorry we lost your contact information. They charged my card taking all the details and now they don't have my information. Totally weird. One and half week and still no luck with classes even after paying them. When I asked to speak with the manager, he seems more interested in refunding the money rather than providing any solution. Unfortunately they lost a customer and I hope they don't do the same thing with others. read more
