Since Carnivero did not participate in the event, we decided to make the trip to their nursery to see what they had available. Just like our first previous visit, we thoroughly enjoyed browsing their impressive selection of carnivorous plants. We were amazed by how healthy, vibrant, and beautiful all of their plants looked. I completely lost track of time while carefully admiring and inspecting their fascinating collection of exotic carnivorous plants. During our visit, I picked up a tiny Tillandsia, commonly known as an air plant or sky plant. This evergreen flowering plant is incredibly low-maintenance, absorbing moisture and nutrients from the air, making it an easy and interesting addition to any plant collection. Overall, it was another satisfying visit to Carnevero. We enjoyed admiring the wide variety of exotic and new plants they have for sale. It is always worth the drive to this hidden gem outside the Austin area.

We purchased a large, beautiful palm from here and couldn't be happier with our experience…read more Our original palm did not take and had to be replaced (with the Moon Valley warranty) and both the manager (Phillip) and Nick (who oversees the area helped coordinate the replacement which is doing great now. Nick went above and beyond to help me and is so so knowledgeable!! The warranty offered is definitely worth it--we highly recommend opting for it for peace of mind. Our arborist, Martin, who comes out to check on the palm, has also been absolutely incredible! He took his time inspecting the tree, carefully pruning it, and showing genuine care and expertise every step of the way. Martin is not only knowledgeable, but also attentive and passionate about what he does, which really puts us at ease knowing our palm is in such good hands. We truly appreciate the outstanding service and wouldn't hesitate to recommend both the nursery and Martin. Their plants are expensive but they have the most beautiful large plants in town. So I drove home empty-handed, having wasted an hour (and 30 miles). I'd just hoped for a nice drive and to check out a different garden shop. But this place isn't a garden shop, it's only really set up for dealing with contractors and wholesale operations, not individuals. Again, I wish their web page or the LivingSocial deal had made that clear. So, 1-star experience. However, the price list looks promising. And the just-learned fact that Garden-Ville is the composting and recycling component of Texas Disposal Systems is redeeming.

Since the Natural Gardener had to quit selling bulk soil, I've been looking for a new place…read more Gardenville has a number of choices and all at a decent price. They sell everything from fill soil to compost to rocks. My first problem is that my truck is just a 90's mini truck. They don't sell soil by the half yard. I tried putting a yard of their Superior Soil in my truck and about a half yard in, the truck couldn't take any more. The guy was cool enough to stop filling the truck and he charged for about a half yard. Would be nice if I could just get a half yard. My second problem is that their products aren't exactly the greatest. The Superior Soil was acceptable I suppose. I'm used to getting Revitalizer from Natural Gardener, and Gardenville's Superior comes up short in comparison. They did have a decent deal recently on shredded mulch and the mulch was fine. The location has been paring down their offerings. They had a crazy sale to liquidate all of their pots. Now they're selling all of their tools. Not sure if they're focusing on the bulk business or what.

We called several nurseries in vain and we decided to stop at Copper Rock to see if they have this plant. When we entered the office, there were two guys behind the counter acting busy though there was nobody around, no customers waiting, no one. Finally one of them, on the left looked up and asked hesitantly if we needed some help. I had the surviving shrub picture on my phone and I wanted to explain to him that we just need them to look at the shrub, and tell us if they carried it or could order it. Before I could finish my sentence, his phone rang and he promptly answered it. Within a few seconds he bolted out the side door to the nursery. How can you give priority to a caller and leave the customers in front of you waiting. After several minutes, the other genius gathered the little customer service training he ever had and asked us what we needed. As soon as I started describing the plant, its name and ... He promptly and abruptly stopped me with: "Since you are not a contractor, we will not help you". He then went back to pretending to be busy, waiting for a phone call that would save him from these customers in front of him. These two homeboys had no intention to do any work, to help potential customers or to give any information at all. Keeping in mind that probably most of their customer base are landscapers, I wonder if this behavior has been acquired as a result of having to deal with some of the workers. We will make sure to instruct our landscapers to never set foot there for any reason. Rude and obnoxious.

I will try to keep this brief but there really is so much to say. We have a very big yard and only…read moretwo small trees, so we have been looking around for quite some time. Our ground is mostly rock with a little dirt (northwest Autin in the Hill Country). I have spoken to Albert several times over the years because our ground is so hard, and I worry about the installation, which seems to be the problem with all the other nurseries. Albert assured me they would do whatever it took to dig the holes and get them properly installed. We went to pick one tree this past weekend, but they were all so healthy and HUGE that we ended up choosing three trees. The trees are an excellent value for the cost. The experience was very enjoyable. A few days later, I was called to schedule installation, and they came out the next morning. Highlights: They showed up at 9:30, exactly when they said they would. Four men showed up (they were big trees). They had a jackhammer and shovels. They were very polite and worked with me on placement (turning them when I picked a different side to face the house). They spent time making sure the trees were perfectly straight. They hauled away all the old dirt and rocks (taking the rocks they dug up was great) They built a berm around the trees to help with watering. They installed tubing to help with daily watering. They put in metal poles and wiring to keep the trees straight as they grow. They checked to make sure I was happy with each tree installation as they did it. They made sure I was pleased with everything before they left. The area was as clean when they left as when they arrived. (This is a big deal because several contractors have left old water bottles and trash at our house before.) Albert called to ensure I was pleased with the work and is coming later today or tomorrow to install a timer for the water. I could not be more thrilled! The trees look gorgeous, and the surrounding area is tidy and well-manicured. We are already planning where we will put more trees next year. If you are at all considering investing in trees, you should take the drive out to see them. You will not be disappointed.

The gentleman we initially met at their yard gave a tour of all the trees in his golf cart, asked us several questions about what we were replacing, and what we thought we would like to replace it with. He stopped frequently to identify the different trees, provide all the pros and cons of each variety, whether they were particularly suitable for where we live, etc. We didn't feel rushed, he was exceptionally pleasant, and was happy to answer all our questions. When we decided what type of tree we wanted, we were handed a flag, picked out the exact tree we liked best, and they delivered it in a matter of days. Their crew was friendly and efficient, and for a reasonable fee, cut down and removed the dead tree. They were finished in no time, and left the yard looking better than when they arrived. They only asked for payment when the old tree was gone, the new tree was planted, staked, watered, and we were 100% satisfied with their work. I really didn't think this level of customer service existed anymore. Go see them. You won't regret it.
