At the literal center of Farmingdale, you will find a grand parking lot that brings you to the…read moregrocery store that defines this small town. Brand: 4/5 Shop n Bag is the small grocery store at the center of Farmingdale that is within the Foodtown brand. From the sign to the interior, the Foodtown brand has the standard grocery store appearance with the large, easy-to-understand font and discernible color contrast. Shop n Bag brings itself up to speed with technology with their digital food advertisements on the glass wall in the front. I give the Brand score four stars, because the distinction can prove confusing to anyone unfamiliar with Farmingdale. Website: 5/5 Despite the confusion of the brand, the website does function well, with menus that lead you to either the available items or the weekly circular. You do need to specify your Foodtown's specific location if you wish to peruse the item selections of that particular Foodtown brand. Ambiance: 5/5 I do not engage in hyperbole when I say that the ambiance of Shop n Bag saved me. There is just something about the white tiles, the cool interior, the classic rock playing over the radio, and the down-to-earth humdrum of the establishment that always brings a sense of tranquility to me. There is enough space between each aisle, and plenty of space at the deli. There were plenty of sections for fresh fruits and vegetables, along with the meats in the refrigerator aisle. The clearance rack always has new products available, and is situated within the same aisle, ensuring that the cool, dry environment makes sure that the products last a lot longer. The overall food selection I would describe as resembling traditional chain food-stores in a miniature scale. Service: 5/5 The staff in the deli readily accepted my order without any issues. Wait Time: 5/5 Throughout the duration of the wait time, the meat and cheese sliced for a major part. I will say that for a Saturday, the sandwich came quickly without any serious interruptions. Food: 5/5 I ordered the New Jersey Devil Sandwich, which consists of ham, provolone, balsamic vinegar, and sweet peppers. I have to say that just like any other Jersey-based dishes, they have a hearty presentation and the right amount of tangy flavor. Indeed, the balsamic vinegar and sweet peppers bring a tangy flavor to the packed meats, despite having no prior familiarity with them. The ingredients came out fresh without any dryness or sogginess. The fresh bread retained its form throughout the time I ate it. Worth The Money?: 4/5 The food that Shop n Bag offers reflects clearly the ones available on the website with every specific search. The food also reflects the brand of the shop, and New Jersey as a whole, as the New Jersey Devil Sandwich does. Indeed, such a devilish treat encapsulates New Jersey between two slices of bread. The peruse within the store, looking at the food, can make the ambiance worth it. The staff know how to make their sandwiches, and the wait time matched the finished sandwich perfectly. The ambiance reflects the Foodtown brand perfectly, since the small town grocery store matches the Foodtown motto of "Locally Owned, Family Operated," from the aesthetics to the website itself. The employees match the ambiance with the down-to-earth demeanor. I also found the wait time tolerable within the ambiance of the store. Since it is a grocery store, I would consider this establishment my first choice for any food I need, ranging from ingredients to sandwiches; though I would not be too sure about shopping for the monthly pantry. Mostly, I would consider the price worth it. Rating: 5/5 Stars I find Shop n Bag to be a decent grocery store to go to, especially if you wish to support smaller, localized businesses. Recommend To... If you need a handful of things in town but do not want to negotiate through traffic to a Shoprite.

Here you will find a simple business that will satisfy your caffeinated wants…read more Website 9/10 The bar's website offers a slick, clean introduction into the business. You are immediately presented with the picture of the bus where the business takes place. Due to its simple design, it is easy to navigate without clicking too many buttons, which is ideal for a mobile business. Although there are plenty of selections for coffee, I would like to see selections on the pastries, such as cakes and cookies, whether on the menu or the site itself. Describing the pastries and their flavors would definitely help considering how cakes are considered half of the brand. Brand 9/10 The color scheme, simple yet evocative, warrants interest to passersby. The cooling usage of two shades of blue fits the overall business model. The font has a casual aesthetic to it, for the bubbliness suggests a maintained yet carefree demeanor. Meg sells her cake and coffee products in a bus repurposed for selling and cooking her products. She even shows the picture of the bus prior to renovation on her site. Meg also offers a simple, poignant backstory to her business inspiration. Along with the products themselves, they also provide opportunities throughout the site for catering for many occasions, ranging from weddings, corporate events, birthdays, and barbecues. When I requested business cards it specifically referred to "Meg's Coffee Bar: Specializing in Coffee, Espresso, & Baked Goods," so I don't know if the name changed from "Meg's Cake & Coffee Bar." Either way, I can see how this would be a bit misleading. Ambiance 8/10 Considering how Meg operates a food bus, then the ambiance is entirely within the control of the patrons. In most cases, she will sell her products in a farmer's market near a park, which means that a green space enlivens the mood. I was hoping that they would be located underneath trees so they can receive the shade. Having an environment as cool as possible would be important if you are selling a hot product like coffee. Their generator for making their products did not produce too much noise, which did help the ordering experience. Not a lot of people clamored in my way. If the menu itself was difficult to read, they have the larger sized menu printed upon the bus to read. This accommodation would help anyone either with eyesight, if the sun's rays are blocking the view, or if they did not hear whoever is at the front counter. Staff 10/10 The business is operated by a couple, which means they have reduced workload between them. This is a good strategy to have if your business is limited by what it can contain and produce; and if it is mobile. They kindly took my order without any problems or delays. Waiting Period 10/10 I got my order immediately since it was a simple order. Food 9/10 I ordered the hot coffee with hazelnut syrup and oat milk to welcome the autumn season. They have cheap, sufficient prices, dividing between the coffee, the syrup, the milk, and other additions. I cannot say that this order was the ideal cup of coffee to welcome autumn, but it did suffice enough. Although I initially tasted the bitter taste typical to coffee syrups, the toasty hazelnut aftertaste started to proliferate as I drank further into my order. The inherently sweet, creamy aspect of the oat milk helped provide a good coffee experience. The order also achieved that ideal temperature in my particular case, since I like my coffee to be hot but cool enough to drink within minutes. Comes Together Well? 9/10 While the business's identity falls short, nevertheless I still had a pleasant experience ordering from them. Pertaining to personal suggestions, the business name and subtitle on the business card matches the business more than the one on the website and the Yelp page. Rating 9.14/10 This is the average score of all of the factors that came into this review. Because I am limited by a 5-star ratio, I have to use what little opportunity I have to decide the ultimate decision over whether the business becomes 4 stars or 5 stars. And so, what is my ultimate deciding factor? Rounds Out To... 5/5 Stars Hope. I have plenty of hope for Meg's Coffee Bar. I could clearly see how it could have weathered COVID, and I would not put it past this specific type of business model to circumvent any macroeconomic difficulties that may arise. If a repurposed bus could offer a pleasant, caffeinated experience, then they have a long-term advantage. I do not have a sweet tooth, but I express interest in their baked goods' taste should I ever request catering services. Recommend To... Anyone looking for a Starbucks alternative. I don't know if Starbucks offers a lot of catering as this business will, but you will have the opportunity to do so while also contributing to the local economy; and because they are mobile they can do it anywhere. I would also recommend this business to anyone if they want to try different flavors of coffee cheaply.

Very few of the menu items have images accompanying them. I am grateful that the menu offers "pizza" as its own category, which fits the theme of the pizzeria. Brand: 4/5 It retains the sign "Tony's Ristorante" despite being called "Tony's Pizzeria." Anyone outside of Farmingdale would find it misleading. I personally do not have a problem with such a common type of restaurant name, but the brand itself does not extend further enough to capture anyone's attention. Plenty of canvas paintings hung throughout the walls of the inner restaurant. Indeed, the tables and the carpet definitely reflect the Italian aesthetics, while the parlor section of the establishment has a sense of welcoming. Ambiance: 5/5 You have plenty of opportunities to seat yourself depending on the mood you are in. If you look for a quick meal, the booths are available in the parlor section; while the fancier interior provides space for a celebration; and the outdoor tables have the umbrellas available if you look for quietude. A television does play as you place or await your order, and it does not intrude upon you throughout the establishment. It does have the capacity to get noisy during the afternoon rush, which is to be expected, but you do have the option to eat outside. Service: 5/5 The staff managed to get our orders right, offering their pizza slice deal first and foremost. Wait Time: 5/5 There were no interruptions for the wait time. Food: 3/5 I ordered the California Burger which has brioche buns, angus beef, and mayonnaise accompanied with tomatoes, lettuce, onions; with fries, coleslaw, and an Orangeade. I did not expect the meat to be medium rare. The buns did hold their forms but only slightly. The mayonnaise had a more profound scent than the rest of the meal, which did become cumbersome. The burger meat did have a watery taste, while the mayonnaise had a more robust taste. The aftertaste did have the savory meat taste. Worth The Money?: 4/5 As an Italian pizzeria, the website provides a large selection of menu items. The establishment definitely has room enough for such diversity of food. A vibrant brand does not need a line of bobbleheads or plushies to sell itself, but it would still need to find some way to stay relevant. Right now it continues to do so with unique pizza dishes, however I would predict that changes would occur. It already has a unique identity by offering modern pizza and the original pizza as made by Italian immigrants called Grandma Pie. As mentioned in the Brand section, I would like to see that interplay between the past and the present play out in the future in more unique ways. Perhaps offer to include Italian words to learn like "ristorante" within the menu, along with the images of those menu items. I can say that the ambiance outweighed the food in terms of presentation, since there are plenty of places to sit. I would say that, ultimately, the price would be worth it for those willing to pay. The California Burger did have a large price. Rating: 4/5 Stars Tony's Pizzeria is okay to go to, and it does offer a sense of pizza identity to Farmingdale. However, unless they can truly offer something that makes it stand out, I do not see much more to it. Recommend To... Anyone who lives in Farmingdale, specifically if they are looking for various occasions.

Brand: 4/5 I appreciate the awareness of Irish heritage within this establishment. I do believe I remember passing through years ago and the old symbols being the American and Irish flags, which I definitely missed. The official slogan is: Where There's Good Food, Good Friends & Good Times. I have a problem with the repetitiveness of the word "good," since it would take longer for any newcomer to read it compared to a shorter slogan. Inside, you will find a central bar with booths surrounding it, with many neon signs of shamrocks, along with many televisions. Website: 5/5 It looks well-updated, with the functional pages leading you to the menu and the location. It also has that solid green color with the specific Hibernian shade as the color scheme, which fits the site. Wait Time: 5/5 I did not experience any interruptions. Ambiance: 5/5 The establishment did start to get noisy as the day got longer, but it mostly came from the bar section, whereas I ate at the booths. The bar and the booths had a good amount of space apart. The classic rock played smoothly over the radio, while the televisions did not have an intrusive volume. Food: 4/5 Even though it is a bar and grill, I decided to order a non-alcoholic course. So, I ordered the Irish Nachos, which consists of waffle fries, pepper-jack cheese, green onions, bacon bits, and sides of sour cream. I did think that the pepper-jack cheese had a liquid texture. The green onions complement the cheese in giving the dish its sharp taste. They had the appropriate amount of heat and the fries held their forms, whether with the cheese or immersed in sour cream. The contrast of the cool sour cream and the hot cheese definitely complemented well with each waffle fry. Service: 5/5 I confess that I did awkwardly enter into the establishment due to my nervousness. However, I was accommodated well despite my poor first impressions. Worth The Money?: 4/5 I will say that this dish has a great place here, for the Irish Nachos did not cynically appropriate Irish or Mexican cuisine, rather offers a hybridized dish with a unique twist. Though, if Irish heritage is to become a central aesthetic to this establishment, then I would like to see words and phrases in Irish Gaelic in either the marketing or the menu. The business would benefit to have the Irish diaspora relearn their mother-tongue, since it is an endangered language in the Republic of Ireland. Maybe "Spinach and Artichoke Dip" could have a Irish Gaelic translation just below in shorter font called "Taos Spionáiste agus Bliosán." A good slogan has short syntax, meaning that it has the ability to encapsulate a wondrous experience within a few marketable words. The slogan at the end of the menu fitted the bar and grill better which is: Your Seat's Always Waiting. It also would have helped the website to include a brief historical backstory of Mulligan's Bar and Grill. Other than that, the website does have a good feel of the establishment before you even enter inside. The waitress did remark how the booth section did not have enough heat, though I did not notice. Nevertheless, it definitely shows how the staff care about the establishment. The service that I got matched the quality of the Irish Nachos, and the food's preparation matched the time it took to wait. Eating during that time matched the ambiance slightly, with no problems with it, nor the wait time it took to make them. While I cannot say I would return since I never drink in a public place, I would say that the price was definitely worth it. Rating: 5/5 Stars I appreciate the experience of returning to my ancestral roots with every bite of Irish Nachos. As such, the Original Mulligan's Bar and Grill deserves a good "Sláinte!" from me. Recommend To... Anyone looking for Irish-inspired food with modern twists. You will find it in Mulligan's.
