usually don't shop there...buy corn in supermarket and, once a month, i buy corn at another market in new egypt....new egypt market has sign that says, "don't open the corn because the hairy part keeps the corn fresh" (paraphrased)....fast forward, i go to buy corn at sloan's few days ago....i don't open them because of my new expertise from new egypt....get home and excited to have one....yikes.....i open the corn and top kernels are brown (rotten) and couple tiny worms are crawling around...i cut the top off, washed corn thoroughly, cut corn off the cob and threw into a stew.
monday i wanted corn on the cob...opened up ear #2 and infested with those little worms....immediately put both ears in shop rite bag and then again into a 2nd bag.
did not go out mon afternoon due to the heat...did not go out at all on tuesday....today, wednesday, i went out, brought the bag to sloan's, called the man (owner?) over to the side so others wouldn't hear, told him about worms.....i was expecting an apology...no reason to write review if apology, right? maybe write a nice post....but no....he said, "corn isn't mine.....i don't see any worms" (maybe they fell to bottom of bag or in the corn hiding....they didn't get out of my double supermarket bags....he opened up one ear of corn for the first time (i never opened it) and said "my corn isn't flat like this"....i told him corn is his and showed him the box where i got it....told him i was expecting a different reaction....finally, he said, "ok, i'll give you your money back or whatever you want"....i said all i want is a tomato (pd $1.25 for the corn) and took one.
was thinking about whether to write review on yelp or not...main reason not to is most people who shop at his place are older people who don't go on the web much or at all.
moral of story....you're a fool if you buy corn from Sloan's...bigger fool if you don't open corn every time you buy it everywhere!!!!!! i'll either be opening corn in new egypt or not buying it there! read more
