I came here after a lackluster, first visit to the Ripped Bodice. This experience made me not regret my book trip to Brooklyn. From the moment I walked in, the solo bookseller was the kindest human ever. She was genuine and authentically engaged with me, as I shopped the small store. She literally made the visit. I came in with a coffee, so I wasn't able to try the cafe part of their spot, but I want to come back to try it and many other reasons too. I appreciate that, despite having a smaller inventory, they are very selective and intentional about the authors they sell, which in turns means they support. Their merch is so dope! I have enough totes, but I HAD to snag one of theirs to commemorate my visit here! I left happier than when I arrived!

The kids area in the back is ADORABLE and features a little reading cave. In love with the cookbooks and architectural books around there, too. How do you discover a book without "opening" it . The woman was so rude , the book they sold didn't even have a barcode . The seller was even flustered when we said we didn't want it and wanted to donate it then and she almost would not take it at a new and USED bookstore. The staff unfriendly and unhelpful.

But we were wandering around and just came upon it. The store is a good size; you can definitely lose time exploring and browsing. It doesn't feel as tight as many independent bookstores can either. Founded by author Emma Straub, both Books Are Magic locations have some really wonderful touches: lots of recommendations by booksellers on the shelves, a large section of translated fiction, and merch for bibliophiles. I had to be dragged out - but not before I picked up a book that I hadn't seen on/in any tables, endcaps, pyramids in any other bookstore in the last few months. If you love to read, Books Are Magic is well worth a stop to browse and get inspired by a new read!

The Community Bookstore has everything I want in a neighborhood independent book store. When the other store didn't carry it (disappointing), I knew I would find it at Community Bookstore. They carry an excellent selection of new fiction, harder to find fiction, classics and everything In between. If you can't find what you are looking for, they will happily order the books for you for pick up and even delivery. They have an amazing author events which, I really enjoy. Books are a huge part of my life and I love to Community Bookstore.

I am an average breeder and I would much rather purchase books from independence store and from online. The store is a nice space aesthetically. There is also a coffee bar which is a good plus. I feel the service is only fair. Sometimes, I have had helpful and friendly staff and at other times, I have felt either invisible. It's not a warm cozy bookstore.

It's also a great location since it's in the same building as DeKalb Market Hall, Trader Joe's, and Target - also very close to Junior's (yum - cheesecake) and Lidl, the grocery store that has been opening new locations around the city. The store seems well laid-out - there isn't a ton of seating, but enough so that you can a seat on occasion if you want one.
