Such good people. Such a great place.

Hands down my favorite plant nursery I have ever been to! All of the plants are outside on the Kings vast land. The King's are like a living history of the Merrimack valley region - Mr. King can tell you stories about these towns when they were still all farm lands. There are frogs, turtles, toads, and other amazing animals close at hand while you're looking at a gorgeous selection of some of the nicest plants you've ever seen. The variety is incredible, and the quality is unsurpassed. No artificial fertilizers are used and Mr. King swears this is why deer don't bother his plants. He knows everything about every type of plant he sells and can answer whatever question you've got. I can't stress enough just how nice it is to be out there though - the drive over a tiny bridge, the "turtle crossing" signs, the acres of amazing plants to explore - and most importantly, the Kings themselves - 2 of the nicest, happiest, and most interesting people you could meet! Absolutely worth checking this place out.

My first trip (finally!) to Cottage Gardens certainly won't be my last. This place holds a few…read moresurprises. I've seen ads for Cottage Gardens and had them in my radar but just never had a real reason to go. Then I saw the coupon/ad for their Breast Cancer Benefit Weekend. I figured if ever there was a time to get my butt there, supporting a good cause by shopping was it! Although it doesn't look like there's enough room to park, there is a large lot in back. It is very country cozy looking with the house on the left, plants hither and yon and little cottages scattered about (well only three but...) They sell plants and trees so I asked the owner if she had any ligularia. My garden is in deep shade and I have difficulty finding plants that will thrive in deep shade. She did not have ligularia but made some recommendations for my garden. I ended up purchasing a bush and two plants all of whose names I have promptly forgotten. I'll have to update later with how they do since I just planted them this weekend. On to the best part, the cottages! One is a gift shop and they have cut flowers & other girlie gift items. I spotted scarves, lotions, decorative items and cards. A nice little place to putter around for a unique little item. The last little cottage was the best one though! That one holds the bakery. Homemade cookies, brownies and scones, need I say more? Actually, yes! A Warning: Do not attempt to eat your scone before leaving. That will only entice you to purchase more scones. These were seriously the best scones I've ever eaten. The first one I bought was raspberry white chocolate. I nibbled it on the walk back to my car. When I stopped up front to load my plants, I decided I could not finish the day without trying the cinnamon brown sugar scone. Deliciousness! If for nothing else, I will be back for another scone (or two).

The plants here are pricey and they don't look healthy. Everything was very dry. Not dead headed at…read moreall. I bought the pansies because I didn't want to travel. Never again.
