Moving from Texas, I have been on the search for a new yoga studio to call my home. Lila East End…read moreis a small studio where the mats face each other, you WILL be squeezed next to other people. In the middle, is a narrow path way for the instructor to pass through and to demonstrate. This is not your customary practice, but hey it's a new place so why not try something new? Came in to an "All Levels Yoga" with Chelsea. Chelsea, is an incredibly beautiful person inside and out. It's hard not to be mesmerized by her! However... this definitely felt more like a Beginners class. It is great if you're just starting or you've been out of practice for awhile. Chelsea has all the best intentions, but I tend to get lost (not mesmerized) by her verbiage. In yoga, a flow should be easy to follow just by closing your eyes and listening to what the instructor is saying. You follow through continuously, and that's what creates "The Flow". I've practiced for 9 years now, but for some odd reason, I WAS LOST. My feet were everywhere thinking this position was something new, when in reality, I'VE DONE WARRIOR POSES HUNDREDS OF TIMES. WHY COULDN'T SHE JUST SAY THAT. She ended class with everyone in Savasana... and proceeded to sing. I was definitely thrown off by that, but was strangely comforted by her soothing "Mom Voice" at the same time, And so, the search continues.

This friendly little yoga studio really fulfilled my need for a midday break on a recent trip to…read morePortland. I was staying at The Press Hotel, about a 7-10 minute scenic stroll from here and decided to do a drop-in class at noon on a Thursday with Heather. The room is extremely inviting and comfy, with a perfect temperature (I dislike extremely warm rooms) and just enough natural light. Mats face each other, which I'm not used to, but it's definitely the way to optimize the long narrow space. Heather's class was playful, at times a bit more intense, but I'd say this is an all levels class, verging more on the gentle side. What I liked most about it was the departure from "typical" sun salutations. I get the idea that you can expect something a little different from class to class. Heather is an excellent instructor, kind and patient. If I lived in the area, I definitely would be a regular in her class. I'm already looking forward to my next trip to Portland so that I may return to this sweet spot!

I remember searching last summer for pole dancing classes and not being able to find any. This year…read moremy search led me to hustle and flow -- tucked in the west end near Reiche elementary, this is a little gem on the third floor where you can try being J. Lo for an hour, and stick around if you really like it. Heather is the primary teacher and Victoria is her teacher aid in training. Both have their own styles and both are mesmerizing to watch. Their pole classes work a bit differently than their others -- you're required to take a few intro pole classes to see if you like it and get to feel your body and how everything works, and then they can recommend you to the level 1 class. I've been wanting to try it out since a friend of mine told me how sexy it made her feel. The intro classes are easy in a sense where you're not huffing and puffing, but hard in the sense where you're using and twisting your body in ways you're probably not used to. They start you off with some warm ups -- a combination of regular stretching with yoga and warming up the joint muscles, then rotate through several pole moves to try out. I don't look good at all, but it's quite fun! The classes are small but you do share a pole with one other person, which gives you time to take a break. Some people like bringing their 10inch heels and trying it out that way, but I like sticking to the bare toes. In the summer it's slightly warm so the feet stick more (making turns have more friction). Definitely try it out, the teachers are great and never make you feel bad about messing up!

I had no idea what to expect when walking in, as I had never done a class like this before, but the pole instructor Victoria (Poletoria_Portland on IG) made us all feel so comfortable and welcome! The class was a perfect beginner course that also let us try out some pole tricks and even a sexy dance routine! If you are looking to take some pole classes for fun, or hosting a bachelorette do not think twice about Hustle and Flow! I would highly recommend this studio!!
