I really wanted to like this shop. I recently moved within walking distance to it and have often admired it while passing it by. Today, however, I finally stopped in and was ignored until I stood in line to ask a quick question. While I was keenly aware of being ignored, I was not put off by it so much as I was by the incredibly rude behavior of the woman who worked behind the counter. A thin and rather unhappy older blonde woman was very condescending to my mother and I, as for example, when I admired one of the items for sale and asked if there were more like it, she seemed to be bothered by my question and huffed "Listen-- if you don't see it, we're out, okay? I mean it's two days before Christmas!" Nonetheless, there was no need for this unprovoked tone or the subsequent repeated demonstrations of her very poor attitude. Prior to earning my degrees, I worked in several retail stores and never treated any customer so poorly, let alone when they were polite. In any case, there are SO many other places one can spend their money where customers are treated with respect, or at least not outright disrespected or made to feel bothersome for inquiring about items on display-- this is standard protocol in stores, three (not two) days before Christmas or otherwise. I was ashamed to have taken my mother there and explained when we left that in most cases, people in Granville are much kinder and much more approachable. We then proceeded to make several purchases within and beyond Granville and encountered no further unprovoked snide remarks, particularly not from store owners or employees. read more

This shop on the main square of tiny Granville is a hidden gem. Amazing soaps, distinctive jewelry, fabulous gifts and stationary, wonderful candles, and a simply gorgeous window display make this shop really stand out on the main drag of town. I visited for the first time this past Sunday after dining at a nearby pub. For a quiet shop in a tiny college town, Green Velvet has it all. I felt like I could have easily been shopping in a boutique in a quintessentially Parisian street. I will be returning to shop for holiday gifts for friends and family (and myself!) I'm a visitor from Florida and have been in several times when I visit my family here in Granville. If you like being followed around by store personnel while trying to shop the very tiny overstocked store, than this is your place. I wanted a sweater there but all three women in there are very snobbish and felt like they don't need my business. Couldn't get out of there fast enough!! Rude!! read more

Green Velvet is such a hidden gem in Granville, OH. I stumbled into it unexpectedly after having visited the area several times to visit our son at Denison. I am just sorry it took me so long to find it. Since, then I visit it whenever I'm in town and I've even made extra trips to visit. I can't speak enough about the owners, who are just darling women. First of all, they remember me each time I visit and make me feel as welcome as can be. I can't say enough about all the treasures to be found in store. I've purchased clothes that are my absolute favorite. Each time I visit I find something else that I totally love and have to have. My daughter loves the jewelry. The displays are always darling and I love spending an hour or so just browsing to see what's new. Christmas is my favorite holiday and Green Velvet is always decorated so amazingly! This is absolutely my favorite shop. They have the most unique items. The shop is always decked out for the current holiday. It's so much fun just to see how its decorated. They carry wonderful little treats. I love the scented soaps and unique jewelry. They have helped me put together many beautiful gifts for my family and friends.
