Best natural foods market in Bloomington. Green Top Grocery might be the only one of course. It has a lot packed into this kind of small market and store. Has a lot of things grown locally. The prices are kind of high, which is the only bad thing. A lot of all natural and organic food and items. It's got some pretty interesting things and you can even order a hot meal. The selection isn't as good as something like Whole Foods, but it's locally owned. Has a lot of the things you can find somewhere else cheaper. That's the bad thing about it, so if you're just looking for good prices they won't have these. Even so, there's a few things that aren't bad. The staff is fairly knowledgeable. Comparing to other stores, it seems best as a complement to other places to get groceries. Its worst thing is the prices. This is by far one of the best health food stores I've ever been too in the state of Illinois. It's way better than anything too in Chicago nearly 3 hours away! This place offers so much to guests, it's a newer, very clean and well kept store. The selection of what is offered is comprehensive. Amazing health food that is great for my wife who is on gluten free diet. Their soups are absolutely delicious. Great deals and best of all, there's hard to find products I've never seen before! They have an eatery upstairs, they offer classes too! They're always promoting local happenings in the area on the bulletin board by the restroom. Staff here was a pleasure to be around. They even encourage everyone to become an owner too which really isn't much. They have over 6,000 owners and after my experience here I might consider becoming one too! Free boxes! My wife was really happy about how they sort out their trash here too! This is the standard bearer of what a health store should be. I don't come to Bloomington much but I highly suggest visiting this place! One of the best health food stores I've been too! read more

I love this place for bulk herbs. They do run out of lavender very quickly. They have ready to go meals that I have enjoyed. The Italian sausage penne is delicious and so is the salmon with dill. Every time I go in there is always great music playing, I find myself bopping along as I am bagging my herbs. Staff seems nice. read more

Not really a Restaurant but you can't beat the food for the price. I highly recommend either stopping in for lunch or picking up something for lunch or dinner. Their soups are especially fine, at an unconscionably low price. Not the place to go if you want traditional fried, fatty or salty fast food. read more

Awesome locally owned co-op grocery. You don't have to be an owner to shop and eat there. Tons of local produce/products plus everything you'd find in a big box store. There is also a taco/salad/soup bar and lots of ready-made quick grabs (Sammies, salads, yummy meatloaf). Our favorites are the House-made Mexican chocolate cake (ready-made fridge section), yogurt pretzels, fresh ground peanut butter and blueberry granola (all in the bulk bins), greens from PrairiErth (produce), pancake mix from Funks and Central IL Bakehouse cro-nuts - croissant donuts (by the salad bar). read more

Small produce section! Produce prices are high. Nice location ! Not everything is from local growers or locally sought products. The Tuesday special, 1 dollar hard shell tacos are a great deal. One of the few places in the area to buy locally-grown rice, wheat, oats, and flour (check out the bulk bins), as well as other hard-to-find products like Funk's Grove maple sirup in bulk. Thought we'd check this place out as we're from out of town and are always looking fro new outlets. Found the store extremely well managed and attractive. Bought some Mexican chocolate cake made there as it seemed out of place and I was curious to know how it tasted. What would make it Mexican? When I got home, tasted it, and it was fabulous. Great small grocery in central Bloomington specializing in LOCAL, ORGANIC options. This is one of two stores in twin cities really centering in on showcasing local farmers. Selection is great - not just produce but local cheeses, locally milled grains, dairy products, eggs, etc. Cafe offers freshly prepared soups and sandwiches. Great creative wine and beer selection. Best Deli items in town, i'd say; try the flour-less chocolate cake, tofu salad, vegan meatloaf,..., super delicious, life-saver for hungry people who are too busy to cook healthy food! Green Top is a pleasant alternative to large supermarkets. In some ways it reminds one of the neighborhood grocery stores that were common in the early '80s and before. Many of their foods are organic, and many are locally grown (not all items, of course). Prices can be a bit high on many items, but many of the items aren't produced by large coporations and are of better quality. Some of my favorites include the flavored popcorn (the best I've ever had and so reasonably priced), great breads/bagels, fantastic chicken and bacon, nice selection of chocolate bars of various flavors, and the personal hygeine items. They also support local organizations by letting you round up your ticket total and by choosing an organization to support by voting with tokens. The staff is also very helpful if you have questions. read more

Green Top Grocery is a wonderful co-op store. There are many local products, organic foods, and a great selection of whole grains. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We buy most of our food at this grocery store. You do not have to be an owner to shop at the store. Green Top Grocery should be on your list of stops when you go shopping! Unlike the big chains, this reminds you of a simpler time when there were small, locally owned stores in neighborhoods. I have been an "owner" since before they had the building, and am proud of it! Locally-grown produce, and large selection of organic and non-GMO products for those health-conscious (like me). Get a cup of coffee while you shop and don't forget to bring your own bags! Places like this aren't the cheapest places to shop, and they never claimed to be! You go because the quality is high and I will pay more for that! read more
