I will preface this review by stating that the food here was a solid 2. The customer service (aside from one thing I'll hint at in a moment) was a solid 4. But yes, this place is going to receive a 1 and I'll explain why in a second.
I have passed this place before and it always looks very full and like a cozy and chilled atmosphere. It reminded me of Thai Wok in Bockenheim interior-wise, except Green Thai actually receives customers, unlike Thai Wok. After nearly 30 minutes of contemplating what to have for dinner after a visit to the hospital, we walked inside and were immediately seated.
The waiter was efficient and came to take our order fairly promptly. I ordered a red Thai curry with prawns, extra spicy. I can't handle Thai basil's aniseed flavor so I generally stick with a red curry if I'm looking for something basic.
The food only took about ten minutes and came out to us in an orderly fashion. Immediately I noticed duck on my dish, and not prawns. My boyfriend's order was correct. I explained that I ordered the prawns and the waiter simply wrote down #219 instead of #218. No problem for me as people make mistakes. I would have eaten the duck except I am a pescetarian and not consuming any meat (the duck was the typical overcooked Asian one though, so it wouldn't have been to my liking anyways).
Within a few minutes, a new dish returns to me, this time with the prawns I ordered and not the duck. The dish was very sweet, but I overloaded it with fish sauce and semi-balanced the thing out. There were like five or six prawns, all decently cooked and cleaned properly. The sauce was spicy enough but definitely not like I wished it had been. There were maybe like three strips of bell pepper and like 10000000 green beans. Meh, whatever.
As I was eating, I started noticing pieces of duck in my dish. Just like little crispy bits that had fallen off of a piece of fried duck. Surely they hadn't just removed the duck from the dish and thrown some prawns on there... Or had they?
Within a moment I realized this is exactly what they had done. I was disgusted. Thank goodness I'm not overly strict on having meat not touch my dish or I would have thrown a fit. But I know SO many vegetarians and pescetarians who are anal about this and how horrific for a restaurant to do this. Not ONLY is it unethical and disregarding the customer, it is also cross-contamination even if they insist meat is cooked. This is awful practice.
I couldn't eat anymore of my meal and my boyfriend finished it up. I asked the waiter over to question the duck pieces and HOPED that it was something else. He told me they removed the duck and put prawns in its place as I had ordered my sauce extra spicy and it couldn't be served to anyone else. WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!??!?!???!
So, let me get this straight... they would have taken my dish after it sat out in front of me unattended and sent it out to another customer? For all they know, I could have spit in the thing or touched my butt and then the duck or even done something else to cross-contaminate the dish. But they didn't do this because I had ordered it extra spicy. Instead, they removed the duck and threw some prawns on it and sent it back to me.
I feel so disrespected as a customer and someone who spent money there. They didn't comp a single thing on the bill or apologize. The waiter, while efficient and nice, didn't seem to think anything was wrong about the situation.
Anyways, what a disgrace. Never going back there. I informed the staff of that directly. Maybe they will respect the business that keep them in business a little more next time. read more
