As for the error, in the taxes, I have provided screenshots of emails between myself and Mary. Moral of the story do not use these CPAs, as proof by Todd's lying below and unwillingness to make things right when customers have been wronged. I used Culpepper for three years and will not be returning. The first year was excellent, but my experience declined sharply after that. In the second year, communication with Mary became difficult, she was hard to reach and frequently offered excuses for delays. Our taxes are somewhat complex, and I expect extensions, which was the case for both 2023 and 2024. In 2023, despite poor communication, we finalized our taxes shortly after the deadline, so I let it go. 2024, however, was unacceptable. Mary prepared both our business and personal taxes. While working on our personal return, almost a month later, she discovered an error in the business return and attempted to blame me, claiming I hadn't communicated a change. That change was clearly included in the information sheet we provide every year. She eventually corrected the mistake at no charge, but only after deflecting responsibility. Meanwhile, weeks went by between responses, filled with the same excuses as the prior year. She didn't file our taxes until July, over three months past the deadline. I paid the bill but raised no further complaint at the time. Later, my husband called to give them an opportunity to make things right after they charged us an exorbitant fee for both returns, plus penalties from the late filing. Instead of addressing our concerns, they refused to let us speak with anyone other than Mary. She repeatedly placed blame on me and insisted she had done her due diligence, despite the fact that I had documented the gaps in communication with a clear timeline. Nothing was resolved. Because of this, I will no longer use Culpepper and strongly caution others against doing so.

Trusted, Responsive, and Highly Efficient!!…read more I had an outstanding experience working with Joe Bedford at Your Back Office Tax & Advisory. From the start, Joe was incredibly responsive to my initial inquiry and got everything moving quickly. My tax situation wasn't simple -- it included multi-state income, a pension, W-2 income, and investment income -- and Joe handled it seamlessly. He completed everything accurately and efficiently, and made the entire process feel straightforward. What really stood out was how clearly he explained key decisions and next steps, which gave me a lot of confidence throughout. He's organized, professional, and easy to work with. If you're looking for a knowledgeable and reliable tax professional who delivers both speed and precision, I highly recommend Joe and Your Back Office Tax & Advisory.

I worked with this firm for many years, originally under Tracy Larabee, and the experience was…read moresolid during that time. After the practice changed hands with David Ewan, my experience became less positive. When I asked straightforward questions about HSAs (contributions, investment earnings, and basis tracking), I had difficulty getting clear, direct answers. Questions were treated as outside scope or unnecessary rather than addressed transparently. I was also told that clarifying how prior returns were prepared would require significant billable time, even though I was not requesting new work -- just confirmation of what had already been filed. Ultimately- this firm may be a good fit for clients with simpler situations, but those with multi-state or non-conforming tax issues may want to ask detailed questions up front about scope, documentation, and follow-through.

THE WORST!!!! These guys did taxes for my aging mother once my father was no longer able to do it,…read moreand continued after his passing. Unfortunately, I never insisted on seeing everything myself, or we would have left this practice years ago, but my mother liked their office staff, so we continued to use their services. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!! Not only were they not smart or detail-oriented enough to deduct expenses associated with her care, now I'm in the position of having to pay penalities because, despite us notifying them of a COVID related tax issue, they didn't make the 2020 3rd quarter payment on time. In addition, these geniuses had the notifications sent to their offices, so it wasn't until this week that I found out they messed up the 2nd quarter as well, and we're PAYING EVEN MORE PENALTIES BECAUSE OF THEIR CARELESSNESS!!!!!!!! I begged my mother for years to find a different accountant----this was after a quarterly payment was erroneously paid twice----but it wasn't until one of their receptionists was rude to my sister-in-law that I was able to get help finding someone else ( I don't live in Oak Ridge anymore, so wasn't able to do it all myself). My mother kept telling me they were the only game in town-------we have since found someone far, far better. If there were a way to leave negative stars, I would.
