As a rebuttal to Todd's comment please see my screenshot from my personal taxes proving things were…read morefiled late and I indeed paid a penalty. As for the error, in the taxes, I have provided screenshots of emails between myself and Mary. Moral of the story do not use these CPAs, as proof by Todd's lying below and unwillingness to make things right when customers have been wronged. I used Culpepper for three years and will not be returning. The first year was excellent, but my experience declined sharply after that. In the second year, communication with Mary became difficult, she was hard to reach and frequently offered excuses for delays. Our taxes are somewhat complex, and I expect extensions, which was the case for both 2023 and 2024. In 2023, despite poor communication, we finalized our taxes shortly after the deadline, so I let it go. 2024, however, was unacceptable. Mary prepared both our business and personal taxes. While working on our personal return, almost a month later, she discovered an error in the business return and attempted to blame me, claiming I hadn't communicated a change. That change was clearly included in the information sheet we provide every year. She eventually corrected the mistake at no charge, but only after deflecting responsibility. Meanwhile, weeks went by between responses, filled with the same excuses as the prior year. She didn't file our taxes until July, over three months past the deadline. I paid the bill but raised no further complaint at the time. Later, my husband called to give them an opportunity to make things right after they charged us an exorbitant fee for both returns, plus penalties from the late filing. Instead of addressing our concerns, they refused to let us speak with anyone other than Mary. She repeatedly placed blame on me and insisted she had done her due diligence, despite the fact that I had documented the gaps in communication with a clear timeline. Nothing was resolved. Because of this, I will no longer use Culpepper and strongly caution others against doing so.

I hate leaving non-stellar reviews, but I was disappointed with my overall experience. We had our appointment at the end of April and our return was not complete until early June. I found an error that reduced our tax liability by $7,000. I was told that we would be getting a letter from the IRS regarding the late filing and that I should send that to the CPA and she would request an abatement of the penalty since we had never filed or paid late before. I assumed that was part of the process that we had paid for, but then I got an additional bill for almost $200. If I had known that there would be an extra charge, I would've just called the IRS myself.

Had them less than a year. They failed to follow directions, their interface is not user friendly,…read morethey make a lot of mistakes, they rip you off, and they charge you extra fees even when they screw up. 1. They cannot follow directions. We informed them when we started our pay schedule and when funding is available to pay employees. Since this was in the middle of COVID, the number of clients who were paying diminished and we lost a lot of income. As a result, we have a very strict schedule between when we get paid and when we pay employees. Yet, they would constantly try to force me to run payroll before the pay period was over because they don't want to run payroll on Saturdays since they don't work Saturdays. Then, they try and deduct the money before the date they were told the funding is available. Even after 7 emails and a phone call over 10 months, they still didn't understand. Had this been discussed as being an issue in the beginning, we would have used someone else. But Ms. Wolf said it was not a problem. 2. Their interface is not user friendly and its hard to find the right reports, you find yourself doing redundant tasks and the entry fields are not very clear. The help section doesn't help. And when you have to do something in the middle of the night or on the weekend, there is no one to help you. For example, we had to set up a deduction from an employee and when you go over their payroll section, there is no place for you to enter a payroll deduction except under the tax tab, which makes no sense because its not a tax. But there was not other entry forms on any other tab to put in a deduction. And the entry line just says deductions with no further explanation or help icon. So his deduction was put there. Then, instead of taking out a $50 deduction, they took out $400. Then they paid him early minus $400. When I talked to them on the phone, they said the deduction was for extra taxes, and they we had to go thru all these extra steps in a different section to add a deduction instead of just putting it on his payroll tab. And there was no way to know to do that unless someone told you. 3. Mistakes. I had one employee where they screwed up his pay three times, even though it was entered correctly. Then they sent me a voided check to cover a check I hand written him, screwing up my books by making it look like he didn't get paid when he did. They currently double billed me for an employee and tried to withdraw more money than they were supposed to from my account. I learned years ago to use a separate account for payroll just for companies like this. Payroll is run and I transfer the payroll amount into the account to cover the deposits. They overbilled me by $1300 and it didn't go thru. They want me to pay the full amount and then credit me the overcharge after the fact. I refused to pay double up front to get a refund next week. Its ridiculous. They also forgot to notify the DOR or send me a letter to let the state know they are sending my SUTA payments through them. I got fined by the state for not paying SUTA because of them. 4. They will rip you off. My FL SUTA rate is 0.01. This is how much I should be paying into unemployment. I just found out they have been billing me at 0.027. This means they have been charging me nearly three times more in unemployment taxes than I am supposed to be paying. They have still not even addressed this. 5. Extra fees. You get charged for everything. New employee fee, terminated employee fee, if they want you to run payroll early and you run it when its supposed to be run, a late fee, etc. These extra fees are not discussed when you sign up. They make no sense either. Why are you paying a new employee fee on top of the monthly employee fee. You manually enter the employee information yourself. They don't' do anything. Why are you billed for a terminated employee? They don't do anything there. They just stop writing checks and stop the monthly fee. Why do I have to get charged for that?
