I love fake meat. As a delicious food lover of all things meaty and vegetarian, I am always looking out for tasty fake meat and real meat alike.
BF and I stumbled upon this place whilst walking round Newtown; according to Yelp this place has closed, but it was open as of last week, so hopefully this is a mistake on Yelp's part. It's not to be confused with the other fake meat restaurant across the road with the same name... this is for the Thai take-away place.
They have a selection of fake meat dishes in addition to the straight-up just veggie and tofu dishes. We got the choo chee fake chicken, eggplant in garlic sauce, tofu and pumpkin, ginger fake chicken, noodles and rice. You can get three options with rice or noodles for $10, and it is a big plate of food.
Again, my main complaint of buffets, time and again, is the TEMPERATURE of the food. Installing a cheap-as-chips microwave and giving the food a quick zap would make a huge difference. If only I ruled the food world!
The noodles were thick and obviously home-made, but we got the dredges of the pan and although the pleasant young man promised to top us up when new noodles arrived, he obviously forgot. No big deal since there honestly was more food than we could finish.
The best dish was hands-down the tofu and pumpkin stir fry. The fake meat was decent. Would def go back just for the price and their tofu pumpkin dish alone. I am also interested to try the buffet just across the way; it is pay-as-you-go which is perfect for a closet fat-ass who piles too much onto her buffet plate out of excited-ness then leaves half of it anyway! read more
