    Beware: predatory business practices here…read more My family of 5 had a 2-night trip to Amsterdam. My wife booked a rental car online with Sixt for those two nights and paid for the protection plan, taxes and fees, and rental fee, and closed the deal for 250 euros. When we picked up the car, the Sixt agent took another credit card for incidentals, and he misled us. We showed him our previous reservation with Expedia, and the only thing he told us was he needed a card number for incidentals and asked if we wanted to fill the gas tank before returning or have them fill it when we dropped off the car. I asked him how much the extra cost would be and he said the only extra payments would be what we did not fill up on fuel. Despite that promise and our original reservation which we read in full, the final bill was 550 euros (more than double), for only two nights with a standard car. Around half of this amount was prepaid on one card, and the rest (including the unexpected charges) was on the card we gave them for 'incidentals.' The Sixt office charged something like 80 euros for a 'premium destination' fee. They charged 20 euros for gas even though I had filled it on the way back to drop off ("it was only 7/8 full!" they later said). They charged 140 euros for a special insurance plan that we were not asked about or told about at the time we picked up the car, but which was hidden in the forms we signed when we picked up the car. We were asked to sign forms at multiple times and could not read every page--which was apparently a new contract despite our original reservation, which we were not informed about--especially after traveling with 3 young children and being told by the agent that there would be no additional fees besides fuel not filled. As a note, the agent wrote his name on the review card as 'Adriano'.

    Driving a dirty car is one thing, driving an unsafe car is another…read more Hearing a rattling noise coming from the engine, gliding while changing lanes, I contacted their local office at my destination. As they did not have a car to swap, Hertz advised me to drive to a local dealer to have it looked at...what? After expressing my concern, the sent the local ANWB who then inspected the rental car. 2 bold front tires, overdue in service AND a transmission problem!!! The report was sent to the local Hertz office and suddenly there was a car available to swap, bless their harts. I reached out to Hertz customer service and apologized for receiving a dirty car and offered a $50 certificate on my next rental to gain back my trust. I could have had an accident or being stranded on the Freeway...truly sad!

We drove about…read more100 miles when we found out that the front tires of our rental car were completely worn out. The metal wire was already coming through - see pictures attached. We spent hours and hours on the phone with Hertz to get the tires replaced at a garage and get a replacement vehicle. Despite the run-around and hassle, I'm mostly upset about the fact they let us drive in an unsafe vehicle. The garage employee let us know that we got very lucky. He said that we were ten kilometers away from a tire blow-out. Nobody at Hertz apologized. Nobody at Hertz acknowledged how dangerous a tire blow-out could have been on the highway (we had our 6 y/o daughter in the car with us). Due to their neglect my family, and everyone who rented this vehicle before us, were unknowingly subjected to a very serious safety hazard.

I ordered a Toyota Corolla Station Wagon and they provided me with a Jeep hybrid vehicle. This vehicle was a 2018 and it had more buzzers than I can count. Drove to Mol, Belgium and it frankly was the most nerve wreaking drive I have ever made. Buzzed when staying in my lane, buzzed when another vehicle passed me, buzzed when driving by hedges, buzzed when driving by guardrails. buzzed when I approached an intersection. Tried to turn the vehicle in at Geel, Belgium on Wednesday afternoon. Nope, gate locked before closing time. Came back the next day, gate open. Office locked up and no one around. Placed key in after hour collection box. Avis notified me that I failed to pick up my vehicle and any rental costs were non-refundable. Funny I'm driving the car they gave me. When I looked up my past car rental they said I drove 1 mile. Out at 7108, in at 7109. The vehicle that I drove was nice except then non-stop buzzers. If you rent from Avis at the Amsterdam airport be prepared to walk, walk, and walk. They may give you a car you didn't rent, except its a comparable model. Make sure and don't rent one way, they rake you over the coals. Also, see if you can turn it in early and get a credit for it. I'm not renting from Avis ever again. You can make your own decision.

Car pick-up was quick and easy, the car was good quality and comfortable and car drop-off was quick and easy. Only downside is the walk between the arrival hall and the location of the cars.
