Driving a dirty car is one thing, driving an unsafe car is another. Hearing a rattling noise coming from the engine, gliding while changing lanes, I contacted their local office at my destination. As they did not have a car to swap, Hertz advised me to drive to a local dealer to have it looked at...what? After expressing my concern, the sent the local ANWB who then inspected the rental car. 2 bold front tires, overdue in service AND a transmission problem!!! The report was sent to the local Hertz office and suddenly there was a car available to swap, bless their harts. I reached out to Hertz customer service and apologized for receiving a dirty car and offered a $50 certificate on my next rental to gain back my trust. I could have had an accident or being stranded on the Freeway...truly sad! read more

They put us in an unsafe vehicle and subjected us to a very serious safety hazard. We drove about 100 miles when we found out that the front tires of our rental car were completely worn out. The metal wire was already coming through - see pictures attached. We spent hours and hours on the phone with Hertz to get the tires replaced at a garage and get a replacement vehicle. Despite the run-around and hassle, I'm mostly upset about the fact they let us drive in an unsafe vehicle. The garage employee let us know that we got very lucky. He said that we were ten kilometers away from a tire blow-out. Nobody at Hertz apologized. Nobody at Hertz acknowledged how dangerous a tire blow-out could have been on the highway (we had our 6 y/o daughter in the car with us). Hertz Drive U thru Air France in Amsterdam..DO NOT USE THEM! We had an early flight from our cruise so I used it to be certain We would have a ride. Driver called me as we were exiting shipto say he was running late. I said ok, we will be at designated area. Passenger Terminal Royal Caribbean. We saw any car services & Taxis ,but No one holding a sign with My name on it ( as advertised) I even asked the drivers we saw just in case! I called the Driver, he said he was there..Of course I said Nope! He insisted he was on the side of the road..WHAT DOES THAT MEAN WHEN THERE IS NO SIDE OF ROAD TO BE SEEN!? SIGH. He said he wasn't waiting he had another customer! Now it says on their website they would wait upto 90 minutes but won't charge for the first 15 min. I asked if you are here Step out of your car and Wave so we can afind you! He said Nope he has other passengers. Ugh! We finally had ti ask cruise staff to please get us a taxi. When I emailed Hertz about Shoddy unprofessional business at first they said they would refund & then 2 days later they sad they have to pay the driver because HE said he was there! WTF! Hertz at Schiphol airport is neither better nor worse than the average rental car location at an airport. Service is usually fast and fairly friendly. Do sign-up for the Hertz Gold plus membership (free) as it gives priority in the queue or if booked directly with Hertz you can just go straight and oick-up the car. Often easy to get upgraded for free as I have several times received a larger car than I paid for . Be aware that they try to sell the refueling option so you can return it and not have to fill the tank but that means you pay for a full tank no matter how much is left so i always prefer to refill it myself. Have tried most of the rental car companies at Schiphol and Hertz is among the better (speed, friendliness and chance of upgrade) and usually decide based on rental cost. read more

Hertz rental put me on a do not rent list and didn't make much attempt, if at all, to inform me. Apparently, my speeding tickets in the Netherlands several years ago, had some 'administrative fees,' from Hertz. Yes, they wanted more money on top of the speeding tickets. I wasn't 'speeding' by american standards, it's just the margin is only 3km/ph difference in NL, and I was advised by my then girlfriend that it would be fine at larger margins, especially in the countryside. all tickets and rental were paid promptly. The invoice never reached me nor the credit card companies i used to book. This last trip, i had booked through a third party website for better deals, and when i got to Amsterdam, it became a mess. Hertz did not tell the third party website of the list. They didnt even tell their own receptionists. Their receptionists had my voucher then were surprised to find they could not rent to me. days went by calling between the third party and Hertz. i spent hours each day trying to find out what is this Do not Rent list, and many of the Hertz employees didn't even know how to access it. finally after arguing with a rude representative, (Hans from Schiphol), that tried to talk me down and acted like a child with a tantrum, i extracted the email from Hertz and found out about the charges. Since, they have been very slow in responding exclusively by email, while my reservation continued with no refund. Observe how ridiculous and utterly stupid of Hertz's practice, that all this could have been prevented by sharing their do not rent list with third party bookers. even more ridiculous, many of the employees were left in the dark, and the one that did know, tried to hide the DNR email. Thus, they made little to no attempt to notify me of the charges, made no measures to safeguard against booking while on a DNR list, hid the details of the list and how to deal with it from their own employees, made their DNR department clandestine and very difficult to reach, all the while not giving the car and not refunding. read more

stay away !!! Similar story to other, minor (very minor) scratch that they had to wipe the bumper to see it and charge me for 460 Euro (after i refuse for 300 Euro on the spot) . customer service is ever worst, look like a scam or someone getting bonus on charging customers. read more

Terrible service. Got my car a day later (because even for a Dutch national my driver license was not enough, a passport was a necessity..?). picked it up in the morning after was there at 8.10 (because I needed to be at my meeting at 9.30 am.) My car was ready at 8.45 and of course, I was too late at my meeting. I think I saw 8 people getting their car before me even when they came in 30 minutes later. Hertz never again! read more

I don't know if it is Hertz in general, or this location but I was shocked at the horrible treatment, lack of fairness, lack of responsiveness. After renting the car for 5 days they claimed I had caused damage on the UNDERSIDE of bumper. Nothing had happened, and I explained that the dent under bumper they pointed out I never would have noticed on a walk through prior to renting. I didn't agree to charges then, and refuted the charge that came up on the credit card. However, Hertz never responded to any of my letters and explanations and I ended up losing over 500 Euro on this because the credit card couldn't prove I was in the right. And the 500+ euro was WITH insurance that I had purchased through the rental company. However there was a 500 Euro deductible on their insurance. Total set-up, scam. Really disgusted. Worst customer service and policy ever. Booked a car and the grumpy lady refused to give me a car, due to my debit card (same card i made the booking with!!!). No sorry, no alternatives.... just "i can't help you". Never had problems with the card before. Of course, they kept my money. No refund, no car. What a ripp off. Avoid this car rental. They will charge you additional fees, if you not pay they will refuse to rent you a car (issue when its Sunday 10 p.m.). They don't care what is in your voucher! Manager (mrs) doesn't care about customer service, she was swearing in her mother language, thinking that we don't understand!!! This is totally not acceptable.
